We have been coming to WDW since 1989 and have been DVC members since 1993 (Old Key West - sold 2000) 1999 Boardwalk Villas and the changes at the Boardwalk Resort and WDW have greatly diminished our feeling of being Welcomed Home.

Being a DVC member seems to mean nothing in the Theme Parks and if you have special needs there is no follow through in updating one’s member profile. At the Boardwalk they seem to keep an update but the actual follow through is getting worse.

To us we believe that being DVC members we have a vested interest in DVC properties and WDW yet we feel that our membership means nothing to WDW.

DVC Boardwalk cast members and managers are very nice and act concerned but there is no consistency.

This year we where aware through News articles, not Disney nor DVC, that every day someone would enter our rooms but during online Check In there was no info or way to request a schedule for these visits so that we could enjoy our DVC Vacation Homes. My daughter has neurological issues and benefits from being in a Safe Place. Having someone bang on our door at 9am to come in is not appropriate since we had spoken to a DVC Boardwalk Manager about getting a call to setup a time when we would not be in our room. Today I got a call at 10am and scheduled a time at 6pm. However at Noon someone was banging on our door and this upset my daughter and was not what I spoke to the person from housekeeping about at 10am.

I believe that WDW and the DVC should value our membership and respect our privacy. I they need to check our rooms each day then there should be two option;

1. At time of Check In a DVC Manager visit each new guest to determine that their privacy and use of their Vacation Home is appropriate for the length of stay and Full Trash and Linens with Trash and Tidies (I think it is every 3 to 4 nights,

2. At time of Check In a designated time for a Daily Check is done at a Specific Time and this should be done respectfully,

3. Don’t Bang on our Doors and respect Do Not Disturb signs with a Call to the room.

The single most important thing that is being violated DVC members feeling safe and at home in The their vacation homes. If we wanted to stay at Holiday Inn or Marriott Hotel/Motels we wouldn’t of purchased DVC memberships.

We are at BWV now. The daily trash service has been unobtrusive. There is no bang on the door, but rather a light tap. They respectfully wait for the door to be answered. Not an issue at all

It may be time to sell if this is the case. I'm not really interested in having a manager visit me to ask my preferences, but they should have some options for guests with special needs.

As for the third one, they have been clear as to what the policy is. They want to enter the room daily and are within their rights to do so.

DVC still needs to be looked at as a timeshare. It is not your home whether they say welcome home or not. It is their property and some think the reason they collect trash is so they can check if anything suspicious is going on in there, like what happened in Vegas.

They do need to be more concerned about vacationers with special needs though.

Sorry to hear of the disruption of your daughter's needs -- especially after the actions you took beforehand to be accommodating to Disney's policy. Wishing you peace for the remainder of your visit.

I think the problem with requesting a time is that if you had something nefarious in the works, it would be easy to hide if you knew when they were going to come to the room/unit.

The policy is new, and is a work in progress. I do hope they find ways to accommodate people with special needs.

We also own at BWV and will be there for the first time since this change has been implemented in a couple of weeks. I don’t like it, privacy invasion, etc, however I completely understand. We live in a mean world. Curious, are the latches still on the doors? I know others have complained about someone just walking in the room and was afraid the latches would be removed to prevent the staff from “checking”.

This is not just a Disney problem. I left a casino in Atlantic City today. They have not taken the Do Not Disturb sign away but I had to sign a form at check in stating that if I left the sign on the door more than two days, they would enter. Also, all safety latches have been removed from the rooms which I certainly did not like.

I do not know about BWV, but I just returned from AKV and the doors still had latches, the Privacy Please signs were replaced with the new signs though.

Disney is a money making machine and everything is designed to increase profits, not to be your friend, not to be a five star experience, they cater to the masses, and sometimes fall short dealing with the individual. There are CM's who care, who live the dreams of Walt but there is only so much that the can do or that they are allowed to do. Disney is a world of illusion, an act on stage. Often their policies and attention to detail are lacking and it will only get worse IMO as the continue to increase the guest count to make even more money. To big to care comes to mind and they just keep rolling along getting bigger and bigger.

It's unknown by the public why they feel the need to inspect rooms, is it a show, security theater, for liability reasons or a insurance requirement? From a security stand point it does little to truly keep someone from causing harm to Disney guests.

You can either except the changes and see what is next or find somewhere else to vacation. The Disney today is having a hard time living up to the reputation of Disney yesterday.

A reminder that this is NOT just a Disney policy, it has been announced worldwide at all Hilton properties, and Marriott has been running ads for room inspectors.

This subject has been discussed intensely here on the DVC Boards, and there is no need for another thread on the subject. This thread is being closed. If you wish to continue the ongoing discussion please do so here:
