We are arriving at LAX from Australia and driving ourselves straight to Yosemite, staying in El Portal.
Any suggestions for the best route/way to drive and anything worth stopping for along the way??

Many thanks :flower1:

I usually go through the south entrance when I go. Figure on about a 6.5 drive. I usually go to Yosemite Valley, and it almost always takes me 7 hours to get there. I can't think of anything interesting to see along the way, but when you hit Oakhurst there is a really nice Vons Grocery Store. You can get a styrofoam chest or two for some food that you can take to your lodging.

I haven't gone from Los Angeles to Yosemite, but I have been from Fresno to Yosemite before.

Not that I would recommend gambling there, but the Chukchansi Gold Casino just south of Coarsegold has reopened. The buffet seems to be more expensive than I remember before they closed (long story). It used to be about $10 per adult, but now it seems to be double that.

Fresno or Visalia might be better places to stop for supplies. Oakhurst is actually a pretty small community. They have the previously mentioned Vons supermarket, as well as Raley's. Oakhurst also has a variety of local restaurants and fast food. There's also a CVS Pharmacy (really a variety store) in town. They also have one of the best restaurants in California, although I'm not sure if you're looking for that kind of thing.

Its a bit of a drive. Once you get over the grapevine and back down to flat land, I usually make a stop in Lebec or for a more of a halfwayish break, and you have kids, Bravo Farms is a nice stop in Kettleman City to get some food and ice cream and stretch your legs
