Dreams / DIS Exclusive London/Paris/DLP Adventure Oct 4th - 13th 2019

Kevin, Please add Dave and me to your Paris dining schedule. I am planning on revisiting some of my favorites in London on Day 2. If you would like to go as a group that would be awesome. I was leaning toward Rules but any of these would work. Here is my short list.

Rules restaurant is a the oldest restaurant in London. It is quintessentially British. Classic British food in a very, very old school setting although it is pretty stuffy, think dining at Downton Abby, we liked it. https://rules.co.uk/ Here is a showreel that gives some history.
. Who doesn't love a restaurant that King's would take their mistresses and the menu warns about buckshot in the meat? Ralph Fiennes shot a scene here from the Bond Movie "Spectre". This is our must do each trip.

My DD's preferred Roast in Burrows Market. It is a modern restaurant http://www.roast-restaurant.com/ with a menu more like they are used to and a bright, white and airy place with a ton of windows on the second floor overlooking the market.

Dave’s favorite is Hawksmoor, the Seven Dials location. It is one of the best steak restaurants in the world and one of Dave’s all-time favorite restaurants. https://thehawksmoor.com/ In fact we are very excited Hawksmoor is coming to NYC maybe sometime this year.

Another classic I had to have was prime rib on a trolley available at Stimpson-in-the-Strand. Again, this is pretty upscale and formal but I wouldn’t have felt good about missing prime Scottish beef with Yorkshire pudding and roasted potatoes. Best place for that is https://www.simpsonsinthestrand.co.uk/

@MaryKatesMom Rules and Hawksmoor look particularly good. Of those 2, Hawksmoor looks pretty awesome. After the 15th, and I have a final head count, I'll email them. This is who I have so far for all 3 meals (Hawksmoor, lunch at Jules Verne, Septime) (if it's inaccurate, let me know):

2- Kate and Kevin
2- Tina and Ron
2- Chris and Chuck
1- Rob
2- Beth and Dave

I had another 2 thoughts...

Kate and I are going to take the train out to Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) Thursday morning. It's an hour by train. We'll probably be back by 1-2pm. There was discussion on Skype on doing High Tea that afternoon, but I'm not sure what time we settled on. Pretty informal. It will just be us checking out the "Abbey". Cost would be the train ride and admission to the Castle. If anyone wants to join, let me know. The movie is released Sep 20th!

The other idea is a Pub Crawl on Day 3 (Sun the 6th)! It looks like dinner is OYO that night. I think it would be very cool to do a relaxed, informal pub crawl. If anyone is interested in that, let me know!

Woo Hoo!!! More victims.....errr, new friends!!!! :welcome:

We are planning a group outing to the WB studios/ Harry Potter experience on Oct. 4th. This is the day of our welcome dinner so we would like to make the first tour of the day at 10:00. It is a 20 minute train ride from London Euston to Watford Junction where you take a 15 minute ride to the studios. Buses run every 20 min. First bus of the day is 9:20. Tickets are 45 pounds = $58 dollars. Tickets must be bought in advance. Let me know if you have any questions. https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/

Thank you, Ron. I purchased my ticket for 10 am.

Thanks Ron! I purchased our 10am tickets.

Continuing the news from Skype yesterday: We’re organizing a few meals for our “on your own time”.

We’ve done this before in China and Italy, and it worked really well. A couple of those restaurants and experiences we still talk about to this day! So, I’m going to give it my best for London/Paris. If you would like to join us, let me know. Depending on the number of people interested, I may need to place a deposit or CC guarantee. I’ll need a firm commitment by May 15th. Below are the restaurants we’re looking at.

London, Day 2 - Sat, Oct 5th
Dinner

We discussed on Skype going to Davies and Brook which is not open yet. They open this summer. But it’s the same chef that runs Eleven Madison Park, which is arguably the best restaurant in New York if not the US. We have no idea how much or how difficult it will be to get a reservation. Eleven in NY is $325 pp and very difficult to get a reservation. Davies and Brook should be much easier and probably not as expensive as it doesn’t yet have the accolades its sister restaurant has, but there’s no telling until reservations open. A couple of us are on their email list, so we will contact them once they go live. I do have a couple of back up options. There will be a dress code. It will likely require a jacket for men.

Paris, Day 5 - Tue, Oct 8th
Lunch

We discussed eating at Le Jules Verne, the Michelin starred restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower. I’ve never eaten there, but I’ve heard great things. They serve an a la carte, 3 course lunch at 105 Euros. There is a dress code - smart casual. Sportswear (such as t-shirts, shorts, trainers etc...) are not accepted. No need for jackets, just pants and collared shirts. Timing is somewhat tricky as we don’t know for sure when we finish up at the Eiffel Tower or start the afternoon tour of Paris. Considering most other restaurants guests will be eating at won’t start serving until 12 or 12:30pm, we think booking a 12:00 at Jules Verne and discussing it with our guides is our best bet. Nevertheless, if you want to join us for lunch understand if the meal unintentionally goes too long, we will be doing our own tour of Paris without the group.

Paris, Day 6 - Wed Oct 9th
Dinner

We talked about doing a 3 Michelin star restaurant on Skype. Sadly Gusteau’s is unavailable… Nevertheless, Epicure is and IMO it’s the best in Paris. However, I checked the prefix menu and it’s 380 Euros. I looked up other 3 stars, and they’re all 380. They must have some consortium! If there’s still interest, we’ll do it. Otherwise, I did find something else.

The other option would be Septime. I’m not familiar with it, but it looks lovely and casual. It’s ranked the 40th best restaurant in the world by a website I’ve used and found dependable. So, it’s a pretty good deal at 80 Euros.

So, please let me know if you’re interested, for which restaurant(s), and how many people. Again, by May 15th. Thanks!

Thank you, Kevin, for arranging these meals. Please add me to the list.

Hello!

During our last two Skype calls we talked about High Tea at Fortnum & Mason on October 3 around 3:30 pm to allow time for those arriving that day. Classic Afternoon Tea starts at £55.00 per person, Champagne can also be added to your Afternoon Tea, starting from £13.50 per glass. I was told we should plan for 2.5 hours to allow ample time to enjoy the experience. Here is a link to their site: https://www.fortnumandmason.com/restaurants/afternoon-tea

A host of another Disney podcast who has been to London told me this is the best Afternoon Tea "in the universe." They are also the official tea vendor for the Queen.

To hold the reservation, I need to place a credit card on file. If we do not cancel within 72 hours of the reservation, the card will be charged £55.00 per person.

I don't know what time folks were thinking of starting the Pub Crawl on this same day, but I'm wondering if we could start if after Afternoon Tea.

If you are interested in Afternoon Tea, please let me know by Friday, May 24, and I will make the reservation. I can also send you the menus for the Afternoon Tea, Dietary Afternoon Tea, and Tea List. The files are too large to upload. If you send your email address to me at michael@wdwinfo.com, I'll send them to you. The menus can also be downloaded from their website at the link above.

Cheers!

Question: is anyone interested in the London Eye?
ETA: I originally said, "I believe that's normally included in the actual ABD", but I was incorrect. See Kevin's comments later in the thread.

Chuck and I land at 10:30am that day so this should work for us. Count us in for the high tea unless you think that it will be too tight of a time span to get settled and then make it to Fortnum and Mason

Jeff...I just looked at the itinerary that Kevin posted online. I would expect to see the London Eye, if it was part of the schedule, on the day we go to the Tower of London and do the boat tour of the Thames. But I don’t see it. Have you seen it mentioned somewhere else and I’m just missing it?

Original Answer, "I know it was included in the previous DIS exclusive LoPar ABD. That was a few years ago. Don't know if that was just something that Dreams added on though."

ETA: Kevin has explained this below.
