Dream Envy

Are you expecting to be chosen for a CM give-away when you visit WDW this year? If you don't..will you have dream envy? I am on my way to WDW for xmas again(last 4 years at this time and many more trips since becoming dvc in 1994) and have a few thoughts about the giveaways. I visited Disneyland in Calif in June of 1990 when they were celebrating the 35th (?) anniversary. They had a great way of give-aways. Every so number of guests entering turnstyles would be given a printout saying they won. Our first day we were winners of disney pin. On the second day, DH went thru turnstyle his ticket said he won a "trip to the prize machine". He was then escorted to a huge platform with a mechanical looking device that he pulled a trigger and it told him his prize. He had quite a crowd watching him and he won a nice disney watch. The prize delivery was random, but via # of guests entering(so every 16th or so say, won something). I really think this would alleviate some of this prize envy (I was there, but I didn't get picked by CM and others did). It doesn' allow the second guessing of was I at the wrong place at the wrong time...why didn't CM pick me? its just random numbers! I wonder why WDW didn't use a similar method that did not rely so heavily on CM's handing out. I am not anticipating any prizes..just being there at xmas is enough for me and my family.

From the reading of the rules, the YOMD giveaways are completely random. It's just the next x number of people at this place at this time. The CMs really don't get to pick and choose who they want to give things to. I know there was a post a while ago from a CM on the DIS who was part of the initial Dream Team, and she/he said that even they don't know what they're supposed to be giving out until they open an envelope at the defined time. So, I think it's as fair as it can be.

Just my two cents.

YOAMD is completely random. An outside agency is responsible for the variables (time, place, etc) and the YOAMD CMs are just responsible for waiting for the person(s) who is in the previously chosen place/time/etc.

There are lots of Magical Moments that are less structured, but I just look at that as a way for CMs to make more magic for more guests.

I'm not expecting anything either way. I'm just glad I'm going after a dry spell of five years. My kids are getting older, and I'm thinking we may not be having this magic again for awhile.....

We just missed some fastpasses last week on EE . Other then that we really didn't see the squad around that much.

We feel it's just a dream to be at WDW as much as we are. We did have a very nice Magic moment during the MNSSHP parade as the Mainstreet players got the crowd to sing Happy B-Day to DD surrounded by a bunch of Cms in their orange party shirts.

I'd like to do Disney trips a lot more often than I do...let's see, in 44 years I've been 3 times...DLR in '78 and '05 and WDW in '99. I had wanted to go to WDW this year, but uncertainties with my job have caused me to give up on that. I guess if somehow things take a turn for the better I might be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat, but it's looking as if 6 years between trips is going to be pretty much the rule. Then again, who knows. 6 years from now my older ds will probably be looking at colleges. Disney may just be a thing of the past for us. If you're going, consider that dream enough!

But there have been posts on here about people getting "dreams" when rides have broken down, or when they have done nice things for others. How can that be completely random since the outside company would not know of these things? Just curious!

There's a difference between Dreams and Magic Moments.

Dreams are the official given out from ther dream squad only .They are the ones limited and have the Dream logo inbeded into the items.

Magic moments are given through out the day by a group that carries a messenger bag around with them (not in the white with blue trim cloths). I think Regular CMs can do this as well like the free stitching on a mickey ears and so forth.

Some Magic moments come with a nice certificate (saw a boy on Startours that got one and a behinds look and tour of the ride 6 fastpasses as well)and some do not.

We leave in less than a month! :)

I am using the contest as a little bribery/leverage. Our girls tend to fight CONSTANTLY these days. I told the girls a little bit about the magic moments and explained that everywhere at Disney someone is watching you - that you can't always see them, but they can see us with Mickey Magic. I said that they have to be nice to one another, and to others the WHOLE time. I didn't say that they'd get a prize for being nice, but that they would NEVER have a chance to have a magic moment if they were treating one another unkindly.

They're already practicing. ;)

Wow, I sure hope you have a magical moment set up for the girls if they are not selected for any magical moments. Lots of folks are posting what they won, but for everyone, there are many, many folks not being recognized. We just returned and did manage to get a pin lanyard after our 10th day at the parks. My daughter and family including 2 littles one never got a single special magical moments for the 6 days she was there and our friends never got recognized for a magical moment or perk during their 8 day visit, so not everyone will experience the same things. I would set up a special desert or boat ride or something, because you may be setting them up for a let down....sorry to say. There are folks getting dreams awarded but you could be like us and never be in the right place at the right time.....while in line to buy lunch the man behind us got selected for a free meal, or getting off of triseratops spin, everyone getting on the next time got a free mickey ears hat, and again on everest, everyone on the car in front of ours got the fast pass lanyard.....It was nice seeing that folks indeed are getting these things, but not everyone. Be prepared.

No - they know it's a contest and that whole "many will enter, few will win" mentality (they like to enter the Nickelodeon contests, too.

BUT - the biggest clarifying point is that I told them they need to be nice to one another or they WON'T be chosen, no matter what. Not that they should be nice so THAT they're chosen. (And, of course, magic is everywhere at WDW - from a CM recognizing a birthday to Mom doing a little behind the scenes things herself) ;)

Not envious, but just kinda hopeful to get a cool fastpass or something... ultimately, I want to stay in Cinderella's castle one night out of my whole lifetime. :-) But as a Christian, I work hard at making sure I rejoice for others' fortunes. Not perfect, but trying. :-)

We'll be there next month and also in May (and once more before the YOAMD ends if I can make it happen), but we're not expecting anything because we are the typical folks that are never in the right place! :rotfl2: It would be nice to win something but I'm not counting on it - I'm just happy to be going to WDW again!! :woohoo:

I don't expect to win anything. If I do it would be great but no expectations no let down. Besides I'll be in Disney and that's enough magic for me
