Do you put identification on your children?

I don't think it's so important as to how much info you place on the ID as it is the fact that your child will be comfortable with the CM's who know something about your child while YOU find your child! Really, how many children have been kidnapped from WDW!? Tell your child what you think they are capable of remembering and then, tell them where some other info might be found on their body/clothes. That way, they can inform the CM where the info is, given ALL these alternatives! I have purchased tie-on shoe-clip kinda things but, if my 3yo child doesn't know it's there, the poor CM's may have a hard time finding out ANYTHING about her! And, you don't want to be conspicuous about this! If someone WANTS your child, they will know the "easy" ways you have "tagged" your child!

It's an important question ~ I've got several deterents to this situation but, I won't get into it right now ~ kimartyraye@att.net

On our last trip we took my 7 yo nephew. He had never been away from home or to a place anywhere near the size of WDW. And he is very shy around strangers. So I made up a set of cards for his fanny pack. I put his name and age, our resort name and our names (and what he calls us, because he doesn't always remember my g/f's last name is different than mine and that mine is different that his). I also put down that he wears glasses and is very vision impaired if those are missing. He felt better knowing that the card was in his bag and that somebody could help him even if lost his glasses.

I also made sure he knew to only talk to somebody at a cash register, in a uniform or a "mommy with a baby" (only as a last resort). And he understood that mommy with a baby is not the same as a daddy with a baby or a mommy with an bigger child, just a mommy and an infant. I wanted to give him specific people, not generals when I could avoid it.

And when I was planning our daily wardrobe, we picked a "Color of the day". Everybody wore the same color shirt each day. It gave him the feeling of power in what we all wore, as well as making it easy for us to remember what each had on.

What we do is all 3 of our children carry there own waterbottles, so we laminate the info and attach it to there bottles.

I would advise any one with small kids to provide some type of id for them.I am a Police Officer in NY City .Children can get lost or separated in moments.HAVE A PLAN
I work in Manhattan and have handled many lost children (Adults also). In an unfamilar area with many distractions it is easy to get separated from your group. Most are found right away.
One Idea if your children are old enough make sure they know what hotel and Room # as well as the phone # of someone to contact at home.
When you are a Parent whose child is missing .Or if you are a lost kid seconds seem like hours.

I never would have thought of putting a phone # of of a friend/relative on the ID. G-D forbid something happends to the parents. The child will be able to be connected with the friend or relative.

Thank you to the police officer for his view.

ID's hidden and memory skills of the child enhanced !

What about a 2 1/2 yo? We are going in may with my VERY gregarious 2.5 year old dd. What would be a good way to label a child that small? We will have 3 adults taking care of one child, and she'll be in a stroller, so hopefully it won't be a big problem, but they sure can disappear fast! Has anyone ever used a "leash" for a small child?

Hi - I'm a big fan of the leash option. We used one until very recently every time my dd was out of the stroller. I am hoping to use it in WDW but my dd may object (well- she will object, it just depends on how strongly)

I still want to put some id on her, but am just not sure what the best option is.

Long time lurker but thought I would chime in here. I just found the following web site. The price is right, shipping is free, and you can order extra id cards so that you can change them also. Looks like a neat product that I thought I would share if you hadn't seen it before.

Thanks, Tombstone (nice name!) - I just ordered one of these for my daughter. It should be perfect. She's only 2, so I can get away with telling her that you have to wear it to get into Mickey's house - she'll believe anything! Thanks, again.

There are some really great ideas on this thread! My boys will be just turned 6 and almost 3 when we go, and I'm definitly going to have some type of ID on them. I'll put their name, mine and DH's name, our hotel's name and phone #'s, our cellphone #, and an emergency contact just in case. I'll also have a "leash" wrist harness type thing for each of them. We're taking a double stroller, but the oldest will walk alot and the youngest will probably want to walk some too. From what I hear, plenty of people use them at WDW. With all of the excitment and sights to see, I can't really expect them to be paying close attention to where they walk - and holding hands gets old, especially when it's hot. So, that will be the rule - if you're out of the stroller, you must wear the wrist thing.

Thanks for all of the great ideas for ID's!

I ordered mine a couple of days ago. I was considering getting my daughter a dog tag type of ID bracelet or necklace when I ran across this. It looks a lot more practical since you can write what information you want on the ID and change it to meet your needs. So if you hop from one resort to another, just fill out a new card and slip it in the bracelet.

The ID bracelet I ordered last Thursday arrived today. 4 days... not bad. It was as described on their website. Bright pink with blank pieces of glossy paper to write the vital information on. The velcro closure is very strong. Strong enought that I don't think my three year old will be able to unfasten it herself. It appears as if this is a reputable product and site based upon the quickeness of delivery and product that I received. They get a thumbs up!
