Hello,

I was thinking about buying a few shares of Disney stock for my family for christmas.

I know that Euro Disney has this program...But what about the United States?

Also does anyone know how much Disney stock is running a share?

Here is the EuroDisney info ...I'm looking for this same info for DISNEYLAND.

Thanks!

I've owned Pixar (now Disney) stock for years and haven't gotten a thing. . . well, except an increase in my retirement account. ;)

I've never heard of any special perks, but would be interested if there were.

Good Deal getting in on the Pixar, Dangermouse!:goodvibes

I hope someone posts some information ..let's keep any eye on this.popcorn::

The Disney Shareholder Club is for UK. Here in the US, we get this:

Q: Do you have a shareholder benefit program? A: No, we do not have a shareholder benefit program.

:confused3

Hi Mike!

thanks for posting that.

Wonder why they didn't create a share holder benefit program for Disney USA..since this is where Disney started.:confused3

Have a Happy Day!:flower3:

Maybe they don't feel they need to. Disney is already huge in the states, maybe it wasn't such a hit overseas so they offered perks to shareholders?

Wow, reading the above post really got my heart beating til I found out it was reguarding out of US. We had held Disney stock for 25 yrs and never gotten a thing from them except for mail. I finally sold it last year at about a $2,000. loss. Loved the stock as it was so pretty and got pride everytime we went to a park, but the poor management of the company made it a financial loss for us and we bailed out. A stock or tow for each kid is great to frame but beyond that there are better investments IMHO. I am a Disney fanatic but money is money.

Really?
Disney stock gives out dividend albeit really small and I remembered right after 9/11 the stock price fell down all the way to some crazy $19 (or maybe $14). I almost bought it but didn't know anything about stocks.
Now they're up to $30s again. If I had bought some then I would've made a mint by now... :rotfl:

My DD has Disney stock and we get no benefits other than just having the pleasure of saying we own the stock.

There used to be more perks for being a shareholder in the US, however many people bought one share just for the benefits and the program became overloaded. Now we get zip!

I bought at $30. and sold at $25. That is why my loss. I had held it for years. purchased way before 9/11 and then took a beating that never came back til now but I had waited too long allready as I hadput thousands in it, not just a couple of stocks as I so believed in it..:) When we bought they had talked aboutbenefits but we never saw them. Yes, we did get a SMALL dividend each year but it did not amount to enough to even go out to dinner. I am glad it has worked out for you and hope it continues to rise for you.:goodvibes

It's a shame the US parks do not offer anything to the Disney shareholders. When Disneyland Paris (Euro Disney as it was then) I think it had something to do with the fact that the park whas not 100% funded by Disney, some was funded a different way (not sure exactly) which is how you get the shares. I own Euro Disney shares and the benifits are great (that was the reason I bought my shares.) I have already more than what I paid for the shares in discounts for my next trip to DLRP, plus I will save on dining and have saved in the Disney stores. My Disney shareholders card takes pride of place in the front of my purse!!

I have one share of Disney stock that I purchased through OneShare.com. I get the benefit of being able to say I own a little piece of Disneyland AND a dividend check each year for about $0.26! WooHoo!:thumbsup2

Looking at your siggie I say you should have bought stock in Churro's and Pineapple!

:lmao:

We own some stock. They don't sell stock for the park exclusively, its for the parent company which is The Walt Disney Co. Also, a CM can purchase stock as that's an option if they are offered that benefit so it would seem a little redundant to get those perks when you have CM perks already. Plus, I really don't think a lot of people really care for "perks" because most people buy stocks for investment / retirement purposes. If the stock isn't worth anything then who really cares about the "perks".

I let my dad handle the stock stuff since he's the one who bought it for me. I just look at the pretty book they send out every year. It's actually hanging on the wall in my room. It's in a big frame w/ a giclee of Pooh, Piglet, and Eeyore on the top and the piece of stock on the bottom. It's so cool that it came that way.

This is the key between The US Disney shares and the Euro Disney SCA shares.

Euro Disney is the operating company for DLR Paris. It doesn't operate anything else, therefore the shareholders are only investing in the park - not any related activities such as film/dvd releases. Which of course the W D Co. shares in the US include.

EuroDisney required a lot of finance at the time of building that WD Co. did not want to invest because of the likelihood of failure. So they immediately set up EuroDisney as a separate company so that WD Co. was not dragged down if DLR Paris failed (this is the same reason why films are often released
by a company that is made specially for that film - saves dragging down the entire studio).

In order to get investment from Europeans they felt that it was necessary to reward the shareholders on the basis that it was known in advance that DLR Paris would not turn a profit for many many years (it hasn't yet after 15 yrs). As such shareholders wouldn't get a dividend, so they offer a variety of discounts and special events instead.

It's quite clever really as most shares are owned by large investment institutions so they never use the discounts, and for private investors to qualify for the discount you have to own a minimum number of shares to qualify for the discounts. It's 5 shares plus a payment every couple of yrs, or 20 shares and no extra payment. Plus, it means no matter the discount they give, they may actually have brought in visitors to the park who wouldn't have come otherwise (those investors who aren't Disney fans but investing for the future).

Euro Disney needs all the customers it can get! Unlike the US parks which turn a much more healthy profit.

If the stock isn't worth anything then who really cares about the "perks".

The perks for some shares are worth more than the shares. I own Euro Diseny shares, and like a poster above, I have saved significantly more from the discounts than the shares cost me in the first place, and i have only done what i would normally do (i.e. not stayed in a better hotel, or had more expensive food, or bought more souvenirs. The perks save me money which means i have more avilable for other things, or for investing in other areas for my future.

And you never know one day the share price may pick up and make me a millionaire.

Disney's current price is about $30/share, which is about 13 times earnings. Analysts are fairly upbeat about it, most rating it a buy and an average target price of about $37.

I've owned it in my IRA since 2001 (picked it up for a little under $16). I figured if I'm going to spend the money I spend with Disney on vacations every year I might as well get something out of it. Now when I book a vacation, it's almost like saving for retirement!
