Welcome to the latest edition of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort Information & Questions!

In the interest of keeping the Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort information and questions thread up to date, I felt it best to start a brand new thread. The last edition documented all of the changes that were taking place at the resort and I decided, rather than delete all of the comments and posts, it would be nice to keep all of the information there so that we can refer back to it and see how the resort has evolved.

Please note that I have reserved many posts that will include all of the information that you will ever need to know about the resort. There are many CBR lovers here on the Dis that are more than happy to contribute to the thread and to answer any questions that you may have. Having said that, you may very well find that your questions are answered by going through the first few pages of this thread. However, all questions are welcome and I hope that you'll feel free to post them and we'll do our very best to answer them.

When the construction of this thread is complete, I will post links to the various informational sections right here so that information will be easier to find.

To read the thread that had all of the construction updates, pictures and reviews, simply click > here.

And, if you want to peruse older information, the November, 2014 thread can be found > here.

I strive to keep the information updated and rely heavily on information posted on the Disboards to do so but, with the way that Disney is constantly growing and updating things, I may miss "new" information. Please let me know (whether that's by private message/conversation or tagging me) if you hear of changes or see that I need to make corrections and/or additions.

Stay tuned here for the new thread. Until it is done, please do not comment yet.

Are you ready? Let's Mambo!

Welcome to the Islands!

Discover a world where life slows to a leisurely pace and worries melt away amidst Calypso rhythms. Awash with vibrant colors and lush landscapes, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort transports Guests to a relaxing paradise that captures the essence of 5 distinct islands: Barbados, Jamaica, Martinique, Trinidad and Aruba. Celebrate the spirit of the Caribbean with blissful sights and fun-filled activities—including colonial forts, lively markets, pristine beaches, splashy florals and swaying hammocks—sure to awaken the imagination.
(quote from disneyworld.com)

Resort Location

Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is one of the five moderate resorts at Walt Disney World Resort. The tropical paradise, located near Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney Springs, is considered an "Epcot Area Resort". Because of the resort’s central location, your ride, whether by taxi, your own vehicle, by Disney bus or the new Skyliner, to any of the four parks, two water parks or Disney Springs won’t be a long one.

Resort Address

For those driving to the resort, you should use 1114 Cayman Way, Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830 in your GPS, Mapquest or Google Maps. This is also the address that you would use should you ship anything to the resort. Please note that Disney now charges a $6 fee to accept a package delivered to the address. For more information regarding shipping to and from the resort, refer to this thread.

Guest Services

Guest check-in/out, concierge desk, bell services, dining and shopping are all in Old Port Royale-Centertown. Old Port Royale, which had it's grand re-opening on October 8, 2018, is located in between the villages of Martinique and Barbados.

It is important to note that, in an effort to limit contact between cast members and guests, Disney is encouraging that all guests use online check-in.

What do I do with my large valuables?

If you have large valuables that can not fit in the resort room safe, you can go to the concierge desk or ask for more information upon check-in.

Bell Services

Bell Services is located just outside of Old Port Royale when entering from the parking lot side. If you need assistance in getting your bags to your room, stop there after checking in and they’ll be glad to help you. If you arrive via Magical Express and have nothing but your carry-on, you have a couple of choices: 1) use Bell Services to take you to your room; or 2) you can catch an Internal Shuttle bus to your village.

**Please note that large luggage is not allowed on the resort buses.**

Bell Services will also assist you when you check out. If you are using Magical Express, it is best that you call or go to Bell Services the day/evening before your check out date. You can schedule a time for Bell Services to pick you and your luggage up and take you to Old Port Royale.

Check-in and check-out

Guest check-in. The green tables have outlets.
opr 2.jpg

Check-in is at 3 pm, at the Custom House. There is a possibility that your room will be available to you prior to the official check-in time of 3 p.m. If your room is not available, you can leave your luggage with Bell Services and use any of the resort amenities. Once you are in your room, you can call Bell Services and they will deliver your luggage to you. If you arrive via Magical Express and you have them handle your luggage for you, your luggage will be delivered to your room.

If your room is not ready, you can leave a mobile number with the cast member who checks you in and you will receive a text when your room is ready. Having said that, some report that they never received the text message. If you are on the resort grounds and do not receive a room ready notification, you can go to the concierge desk in Old Port Royale.

Online check in, options and requests

Online check in can be done via My Disney Experience.

You will verify your personal information, add a credit card and pin for charging privileges to your room and you can also add room requests. (see the notations below regarding room requests) You will also add an estimated arrival and departure time.

online.jpg

***Note: The online check in requests do not work 99% of the time simply due to the Disney website. Calling in requests would be your best bet.***

Please keep in mind that requests are just that, requests, and are not guaranteed by Disney. I usually have my requests noted on my reservation at the time that I make the initial reservation. I then call approximately seven to ten days prior to our arrival to make sure that they are still noted. When making requests, it is best to place them in the order of importance to you.

There is no set restriction on how many requests a guest can make. But, that doesn’t mean that you can go crazy with the requests either. As a general rule, you should limit your requests to your top three. You’ll want to be sure to list your preferences in the order of importance to you. For example: 1) The XYZ section of the resort; 2) Ground floor; 3) Near the resort food court/restaurant. If you overwhelm the room assigner with your requests, they won’t know what is most important to you and may just choose one over the others.

Disney's Room charging policy

On February 27th, 2019 Walt Disney World Resort hotels implemented a new payment card policy for guests who place a credit card on file upon check in. According to Disney, this new policy “better aligns with hotel industry practices.” Under the new policy, Disney Resort hotels will place incremental authorization holds on the payment card for estimated incidental expenses, in addition to any balance due on the reservation.

So how does this work?

On the day of check in, an authorization hold will be placed on your credit/debit card for an initial $100. The hold amount is the same across all Walt Disney World Resort hotels from value resorts to deluxe resorts. Once you reach the initial $100 in room charges, another authorization hold will be placed on your credit/debit card. Guests still have the option of not placing a credit card on file but this will mean that they can't use their magic bands for charging.

For additional information on the new policy and a first hand account, visit
this link.

Resort Villages and their classifications

Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is made up of five villages that are almost mirror images of the other. The exceptions are the colors of the buildings and their booking category. Along with the opening of the reimagined Old Port Royale came new names for some of the resort villages.

Martinique:
All buildings have rooms classified as either Preferred, Water View or King.

martinique.jpg

Barbados:
Previously known as Trinidad North
All the buildings have rooms classified as either Preferred, Water View or King.

trinidad north.jpg

Trinidad:
Previously known as Trinidad South
All the buildings have rooms classified as either Pirate Standard or Pirate Water View. This village is the only village in which you will find the pirate themed rooms.

trinidad south.jpg

Aruba:
All the buildings have rooms classified as either Standard, Water View or King.

aruba.jpg

Jamaica:
Buildings 41, 42, 43, 44 and 45 have rooms classified as either Standard, Water View or King.
Building 46 has rooms classified as either Standard or King.

jamaica.jpg

Bookable room categories:

**Please note: The following are just a few pictures representative of the room views. These are just examples and all views are not the same.**

Standard view: Your room view would overlook a parking lot, courtyard or other landscaping.

Parking Lot view:
parking lot.jpg

Standard view:

standard view.jpg

Water view: Your room view would overlook either a swimming pool or the lake. Water view rooms are scattered throughout the entire resort. The picture below is one example but a water view room could also be like the one posted in the Barbados village pic above.

water view.jpg

Preferred: Your room will be in either Martinque or Barbados. Views will vary. See notations above.

King bed: Your room could be in any of the villages with the exception of Trinidad which has pirate rooms only. Views will vary. See notations above.

Pirate standard room: Your pirate themed room would overlook a parking lot, courtyard or other landscaping. All pirate themed rooms are in the village of Trinidad. See notations above.

Pirate water view room: Your pirate themed room would overlook either a swimming pool or the lake. All pirate themed rooms are in the village of Trinidad. See notations above.

What's the difference?

The only difference between standard and preferred rooms are location. The decor and size are the same. All rooms are 340 square feet which make them slightly larger than those at the Port Orleans resorts and Coronado Springs resort.

Buildings are not considered preferred or standard, only rooms are. See notations above.

Additional building information:

Do the buildings have elevators?

The two story buildings at the resort do not have elevators and those who can not use stairs should put in a request for a downstairs room for medical reasons. Please be aware that all requests are just that, requests, and are not guaranteed. Having said that, if you are in a motorized wheelchair/scooter or wheelchair, you should be placed in a ground floor room. Be sure to ask upon check in. If you have not been assigned a ground floor room, you may request a change.

The number of stairs and their configuration vary in the buildings. For example, this set of stairs in Aruba have a small set of steps, a landing and then another set of steps.

aruba steps 1.JPG
aruba steps 2.JPG

These stairs are in one of the Jamaica buildings and are one set of steps.

jamaica 1.jpg

Drink vending machines and ice machines:

Drink vending machines are in every village. Ice machines are in every guest room building. Refer to the resort map in this post for information on the location of the freestyle machines.

Designated smoking areas:

This is always a hot topic on the discussion boards. Designated smoking areas are found on the resort map.

If you or someone in your party is allergic to smoke, you may ask that you not be placed in a room facing a courtyard.

We have been in rooms opening to a courtyard several times and never smelled any smoke nor encountered guests smoking in the courtyard. That's not to say that you will not. Please keep this in mind if you request a courtyard view.

Room Size

While the other moderate resort rooms are 314 square feet, the rooms at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort are slightly larger at 340 square feet. Standard and preferred rooms have two queen size beds. King beds have, of course, king size beds.

How long has it been since the rooms were refurbished?

The rooms at the resort were updated a few years ago and they still have carpeting as opposed to the new laminate flooring that the other resorts are installing as they are updated.

What's provided in the rooms?

Provided in the room are a magnifying mirror, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, coffee maker (coffee, sugar and creamer packets supplied), shampoo, soap, ice bucket and refrigerator. Shampoo and conditioner are provided in wall mounted dispensers. *See pictures in next post. The Dis only allows ten pictures per post.

IMG_7271.JPEG

There is an in-wall safe in all rooms. An extra blanket and pillow are located in the closet area of the room.

IMG_7278.JPEG

Should you not get your daily supplies or need additional items, simply call housekeeping from your resort room phone and they will deliver them to your room.

Bed rails and pack and plays are available upon request and are first come-first serve.

Opting out of mousekeeping and daily room checks

If you do not wish for mousekeeping to come into your room and do their daily cleaning, you can put the Do Not Disturb tag on the door and they will leave your daily supplies at your doorstep. However, Disney has recently started daily room checks even if you opt out of mousekeeping. These checks may occur when you are in your room and may occur when you are not in your room. For more information regarding this practice, visit this thread.

**At this time, you can choose to have mousekeeping come to your room every other day or you can opt out of mousekeeping all together. Due to the pandemic, even if you opt in for mousekeeping, they will not touch your bed but will replenish towels, washclothes, coffee, etc. Should you wish to opt out, you can still call housekeeping request any of those items. They will bring them to your room and take any used linens and trash that you have.

Window size

The window size in a non-corner room is 37 3/4" x 59". The exterior doors are metal. This information will come in handy if you plan on decorating your door and/or window. Please note that Disney requests that you not use any type of tape or adhesive that will leave a residue on the door and/or window.

Additional pictures of Standard & Preferred & Waterview Rooms Without Pull Down Beds

In the rooms without a pull down bed, the refrigerator is located in the dresser. Those with the pull down bed have a small cabinet in which the refrigerator can be found. Disney calls these beverage coolers instead of refrigerators.

Standard and Preferred Rooms without pull down bed rooms continued

Sliding door

Corner rooms are set up in the same way as the other rooms with the exception being that they have two windows. Having two windows means that there is no large mirror hanging above the table in the room.

The safes have a keypad and you'll set up your own code to open and close the safe.
As you can see, we were able to fit our standard size laptop, medication, wallets and additional keys in the safe.

Pirate themed rooms all of which are located in Trinidad

Pirate themed rooms have all of the amenities that the standard and preferred rooms have. Beds are full size and there are no box springs. When Disney initially rethemed the rooms in Trinidad, there were complaints that the beds were not comfortable due to the thin mattresses. Since then, the mattresses have been replaced and there are fewer complaints.

As you can see from the picture, the theming of these rooms is amazing. The dresser looks like trunks and the bedside table looks like a barrel.

Accessible Rooms

If someone in your party has a need for an accessible room due to medical reasons: This may have been a bookable category when you made your reservation. If you have an accessible room reservation, you shouldn’t have to make any other requests. If this was not the case, you can call (407) 939-7675. For more information, visit the Walt Disney World Special Needs page.

See pictures of the accessible rooms below.

Special Requests

VIP Cleaning:

For those with respiratory, allergy or immune system issues, the Walt Disney World Resort offers a free VIP room cleaning upon request. Your request can be made by calling (407) 939-7675. Please keep in mind that this is for special needs only. If this is not the case for you, please do not ask for VIP room cleaning.

What do I do if I have
more than one room reserved?

If you have more than one room booked and the travel party consists of more children than adults, Walt Disney World Resort will do everything that they can to assign connecting rooms. You will need to let the Disney cast member know that there are more children than adults on the reservation and need a connecting room for that reason. Please note that this is a request and Disney cannot make any guarantees. Although it’s not a guarantee, it is rare that you hear of this kind of travel party not getting their request of connecting rooms.
img_0265-768x1024-jpg.133246

What do I do if I am traveling with more than one party?

If you are traveling with more than one party and you would like connecting rooms (rooms that are connected by an interior door) or adjoining rooms (rooms next to each other), you should ask that the Disney cast member “link” your reservations as well and mark them as "traveling with".

This will let the room assigner know that you are all traveling together. You will need to have all reservation numbers and the names and contact information of the primary guests handy when you make the phone call to (407) 939-5277. When and if you and the other parties do online check-in, make sure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to making requests and that each make the same requests. We have traveled with multiple parties and our request for adjoining rooms was granted each time.
There are connecting rooms scattered throughout the resort.

What amenties do the villages offer?

As previously stated, each of the villages have their own quiet pool, beach, laundry facility and bus stop. The beaches are swept clean each evening and have plenty of beach chairs and hammocks for the guests to enjoy.

What amenities do the villages offer? continued

Restrooms and laundry facilities are located near each village's quiet pool.

I need (not want) to do laundry, where are the laundry facilities located?

Doing laundry while on vacation is not number one on your list of things that you want to see and do. However, given the unpredictable Florida weather and the airline baggage fees, Guests may find that they have no choice but to take time away from park touring to do a load or two of laundry. Disney realized that Guests would like to be able to do something while they were doing their wash so, at many of their resorts, the laundry facilities are located next to the main swimming pool or the quiet pool(s).

At the Caribbean Beach Resort, the laundry rooms are located next to each of the village quiet pools. Knowing that I am able to swim while washing clothes does seem to take a little of the sting out of the fact that I am doing chores while on vacation.

The
laundry rooms are outfitted with internet-connected machines. The machines require the use of a debit card (one that does not require a PIN) or credit card. The cost for one load is $3 per washer and $3 per dryer. (subject to change) The machines also offer quicker cycles that reduce wash time and increased capacity for larger items. I did notice that I was able to put more items of clothing into the machines and I only had to use one dryer cycle for our clothes, even the load with the heavier cargo shorts.

Once your selections have been made, you place your clothes in the washer or dryer number that you selected. The machine numbers are clearly marked:

IMG_0379 (768x1024) (768x1024).jpg

IMG_0381 (1024x768) (1024x768).jpg

Detergent vending machines are in each laundry room so there is no need to bring detergent from home.

Once you have started the machine(s), you can log onto the www.laundryview.com/disneyworld site and immediately check the status of your wash. Once you are on the laundryview.com
site, you find your resort and click on the laundry facility that you wish to use.

For example: There are six laundry rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort, I clicked on Caribbean Beach Resort and the drop down box lists all villages. Click on the appropriate village and it will show you something very similar to the picture below. I took a screenshot of the status check that I made after logging on. You may also notice in the screenshot that you can see what washers and dryers are open prior to even going down to the laundromat.

If a Guest wants to go back to their room to take a quick nap or shower, they can check the status from their phone or laptop. It’s easy as can be! (Please be respectful of other guests' time and not leave your clothes in the washers/dryers for an excessive amount of time once they are done.)

What type of Disney transportation is available at the resort?

Bus Service

Bus service to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, the water parks and Disney Springs runs approximately one hour prior to park opening and one hour prior to park closing. At least that's the official word. I've seen them run earlier and later than those times. Buses run approximately every twenty minutes but are generally more frequent. Depending on your destination, you should budget between 45 minutes to an hour total travel time. This includes waiting on the bus, riding to the destination and walking to your destination after arriving.

There is an internal shuttle bus that will take you around the resort so that you do not have to walk.

Each resort village and the Skyliner station have their own bus stop. There are a few benches in each stop along with a drink vending machine, trash and recycling cans, signage, a phone and an emergency defibrillator.

Digital wait time boards are in each of the bus stops and are frequently updated to let guests know an estimated arrival time for the next bus.

Skyliner Stations

skyliner map.jpg

Information taken from the Disney Skyliner thread that can be found here. The thread is updated frequently and can answer almost any question that you may have regarding the Skyliner system.

Caribbean Beach
The main hub for all Skyliner activity, includes storage and maintenance as well as the connection of all three gondola lines.

Pop Century/Art of Animation
Located in the middle of the bridge over Hourglass Lake, this station will connect you to the Caribbean Beach main station.

Epcot Station
Located at International Gateway, this connects Epcot to the Skyliner system and is part of the Caribbean-Riviera-Epcot line.

Hollywood Studios Station
Located just outside the main entrance, this connects directly to Caribbean Beach.

Riviera Station

Located steps away from the new Riviera Resort, this turn station also acts as a load and unload as you are between the Caribbean Beach station and Epcot station.

Where are the skyliner stations located within the resort?

The main station/hub is similar to the monorail station at the Ticket and Transportation Center near Magic Kingdom. This hub (Caribbean Beach hub) is located across the lake from the pirate themed rooms in Trinidad.

The Riviera hub will be located near the new Riviera resort.

Riviera.jpg

Which buildings will be closest to the Skyliner stations?

Caribbean Beach Station is near Jamaica 41, 42 and 43. The Riviera Station is near Aruba 54, 55 and 56.

Will guests hear noise from the gondolas?

From all reports, the noise is not noticeable.

More resort details

Let’s move on to talk about the resort itself.

Surrounding the 45 acre lake is a .6mile promenade which is great for jogging, bicycling or just a quiet stroll. If you want to explore the resort, a walk along the promenade is the way to do it. There is no better way to see all of the resort.

As you can see from the map posted above, Martinique, Old Port Royale, Barbados and Trinidad are on one side of the lake, and Jamaica and Aruba are on the other.

I would like to say that I've made the walk around the resort at all times of the day and night and have always felt comfortable. The pathway is well lit and easy to follow.

What's on the island?

In the center of the lake is Caribbean Cay, an island complete with a play ground, picnic area, hammocks and other seating. There is a footbridge that connects one side of the resort to the other and you will walk through Caribbean Cay where, if you listen closely, you can hear steel drum music playing.

What type of recreation does the resort offer?

**It is important to note that recreation at all resorts including Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort have been modified or discontinued during the pandemic. What is written below is what is normally offered.

In addition to the main and quiet pools, Caribbean Beach Resort offers several types of recreation for its guests.

Caribbean Beach Campfire Activities

Gather ‘round as the sun goes down for old-fashioned family fun as you roast marshmallows by a crackling fire.

Movies Under the Stars

movies.jpg

Watch beloved Disney films at complimentary outdoor screenings at Caribbean Cay Island.

Pools, Pools and more pools!

As described above, each of the villages has their own quiet/leisure pool. Five leisure pools, one in each village, offer escape for the less boisterous buccaneers of your crew. Take the plunge and cool down or simply lounge the day away on deck while catching some golden rays.

Make a splash at this zero-entry pirate’s paradise, themed like a colonial Spanish fortress. Swashbuckling adventurers can zip by on one of 2 waterslides—including one measuring 102 feet long—and feel the spray of man-of-war-cannons.

Kids' water play area

Little ones can cavort at the shipwreck play area, complete with mini slides, a crow’s nest and a barrel of laughs that dispenses a drenching downpour.

Please note: Guests must be 48" or under to enjoy the Fuentes del Morro Water Play Area.

Spa pool/hot tub

A 12-person spa pool provides relaxation after a long day on the high seas, as do tropical drinks from the nearby Banana Cabana pool bar.
