This otter was a supporting character, I don't know if he had a name.

4316426381_a2b7bf37a0_b.jpg

The plot of the show had something to do with the sea lions trying to prevent the human pirates from opening the treasure chest.

There was also a walrus:

After the show ended, I headed over to the shark aquarium.

I headed over to Shark Encounter. Outside the entrance was an anatomical diagram of a shark:

I then headed over to the Shamu Stadium for Believe.

I went into Shamu Stadium to watch Believe, making sure I was sitting well outside the "splash zone". I had not done that on my 1992 trip to SeaWorld, and had therefore gotten DRENCHED.

At this point, my camera battery died, so I do not have any more pictures from that day. After the show ended, I bought a copy of the Believe DVD. I still have it, although I think I've only watched it twice in the intervening six years.

I headed out of the park, and drove back to the timeshare. I sat in a hot tub for a while, then swam in the pool for a while before dinner. I watched TV, charged my phone and camera, and went to bed so I could get up early.

November 18, 2009 - Disney's Hollywood Studios

I got up bright and early, to make rope drop, and got ready and had breakfast, then left for the park. I paid for parking, and got a pretty close parking spot as can be seen from this picture I took as soon as I got out of my car:

4317193388_f02fc7209b_b.jpg

For some reason, the time stamp on this photo is 10:48 AM, although my pictures show I got there before rope drop. Ah, well, I guess the clock on my camera was set incorrectly.

I went through the security check, and got on line. At 10 minutes before the official opening time, we were let through the turnstiles, and allowed to proceed up to the rope.

4317193828_7b5d949028_b.jpg

The truck with the cast member dressed up as the Director pulled up and he proceeded to give us a little pep talk, as if we could get any more excited than we were, already!

4317194018_6529643878_b.jpg

He counted down, we all yelled "Hollywood, here we come!" and started our mad dash (ok, power walk) towards Toy Story Midway Mania (TSMM).

I was near the front of the pack, and managed to maintain my pole position without getting trampled or doing any trampling, got on line for fastpass, got a fastpass for about an hour later, then got on a standby line that had built up a little bit, but was still moving; I only had a chance to take two pictures while on line, and that was only because I paused, and let a few people behind me pass me by.

4317194606_8bf300ba5d_b.jpg

After riding TSMM, where I got my usual mediocre score, but had fun doing it, I headed over to Walt Disney: One Man's Dream. While going through this attraction, I apparently only took the time to take one picture (don't worry, I made up for this oversight on my 2014 trip!):

4317194802_63f5ab8595_b.jpg

Disney's newest animated feature, The Princess and the Frog, was about to be released, so I saw a poster for it on a building on Pixar Place and took a picture of it:

4316461047_a0545c11f5_b.jpg

I also took some pictures of Pixar Place:

4316462497_a2141f3840_b.jpg

4316463447_0ffcff0d40_b.jpg

I then headed out to the area in front of the Great Movie Ride. I can't believe, with the crowd levels that were at the park at that time, that I was able to get a shot of the Great Movie Ride from that distance, with so few people in it.

4316464533_24ccf18243_z.jpg

Next, I decided to head down Sunset Boulevard.

Sunset Boulevard

I headed past the Hollywood Brown Derby, and onto Sunset Boulevard, which was all decorated for the holidays:

4317202232_84cb1ae25f_b.jpg

I then rode on the Tower of Terror (the line was actually very short) and enjoyed it as always. On the way back down Sunset Boulevard, I saw the member of the streetmosphere team who plays an Italian director, and had a fun interaction with him. I don't remember what was said (it was six years ago!) but it was entertaining.

Toy Story and The First Part of the Backlot Tour

I headed over to Pixar Place, and made it to TSMM a few minutes after my FastPass window came due. I got on line in the FastPass queue and it moved pretty fast.

I took a bunch of pictures in the queue.

I rode the ride, had fun as always, got my usual mediocre score, and before I knew it, I was seeing this as I got off the ride:

I then decided to go on the Backlot Tour:

Props from Pirates of the Carribean:

Very shortly, my group was let into the Pearl Harbor Special Effects part of the tour:

4317222040_e361e3ce02_b.jpg

If it's possible that anyone on this board doesn't know what this show entailed, I'll briefly explain it. The show staff would solicit 3 or 4 tour group members to act as volunteers before the show, and pull them to a back area, where they would be briefed and given rain slickers to put over their clothes. Then, once the show was about to start, the host would explain how some of the special effects worked, and then the volunteer "PT Boat crew members" would be led to their positions, a couple on the PT boat deck mockup above, and one in a mockup of the PT boat engine room, with a dunk tank above it that would drop down several hundred gallons of water all at once, creating the effect of being doused with a huge wave. They would then "shoot" scenes from the Japanes attack on a PT boat, from the movie Pearl Harbor.

4317222986_fdfcb2d2a0_b.jpg

The two other volunteers on the "deck" of the PT boat would participate in a simulated strafing run and torpedo bombing by a Japanese plane, accomplished with compressed air "bombs" and flame.

We boarded the tram, and we were off!

Next: Backlot Tour continued - the Tram.

After a minute or two, the tram passed a fighter plane replica that had been used in the movie Pearl Harbor:

We then drove through the "tunnel" where several manned shops are, which I am to this day not sure whether they are actually used for production, if they are used for costuming of events and cast members of the Studios, or if they are entirely for show:

Millinery (hats) department:

We then saw the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers vehicle in the same area:

It was almost time for the next performance of the High School Musical 3 show performance, so I decided to head over there.

November 19, 2009 - Second EPCOT Day

I got up, showered, ate breakfast, and headed toward the park for the day, EPCOT.

I drove to the EPCOT entrance, paid to park, parked my car a few rows away from the entrance, and before long this sight greeted my eyes:

4905765552_c3c765423c_b.jpg

I got to the entrance about 30 minutes before rope drop. The lines were still pretty short as I had followed the advice from a certain website that has since fallen out of vogue, and had "zigged when the crowds zag". There were only about three people in front of me on the line I had selected. In about 20 minutes, we were let into the turnstiles, to advance "at a speed walk, not a run", to where the rope is dropped. I did take a moment or two to take some pictures of the holiday decorations, so I was not at the forefront of the rope crowd. I wasn't too worried.

THE SEAS (Without Nemo)

I headed over to The Living Seas With Nemo. I decided to skip the Nemo ride part of it, as I had been on it in the past, and for me the sea life is the main draw. I'm sure you all know this "trick" (not really a trick if everyone knows it), but the way to do this is to go in through the "exit", which is not explicitly marked as exit only. Apparently, I did not take that many pictures in the Living Seas...

I thought about stopping at the Rose and Crown for a beverage, but alas, I did not. I still have never been in there. I would be curious to see if they have hard cider on tap, and, if so, whether it is as tasty as the cider I had in a London pub years ago.

At this point, I saw the Eiffel Tower beckoning me, so I headed towards France.

As soon as I got to France, I decided to go to the film, Impressions de France. Some people find this film sleep-inducing, but I enjoy it. In the lobby, I was greeted by this reproduction of a gargoyle from Notre Dame in Paris:

A painting adorning the walls of the waiting area. As there was glass in front of it, it reflected the sconces in the room.

You're probably not supposed to take pictures during the movie, but I took a few anyway.

After I came out of the film, I went to the adult beverages booth by the lagoon, and bought a Grey Goose Citron slush. I sat at a conveniently close, available table, and enjoyed my beverage and the view.

You can see the Characters in Flight balloon at Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs) in the distance.

It was warm enough that the Grey Goose slushie really hit the spot!

Morocco

From France, I headed over to the next country's pavilion, Morocco:

I took a picture of the World Showcase Lagoon, where a Friendship had just departed the dock.

Japan and American Adventure

I headed over towards the next pavilion, Japan. I didn't linger there too long, just stopping long enough to take a couple of photos.

The Katsura:

I decided to continue on toward The American Adventure. I was soon seeing the iconic pavilion, which uses forced perspective to make a five-story building appear to be two and a half stories.

The Colonial fife and drum corps approached, so I took a couple of pictures of them:

I then headed into the American Adventure pavilion and took a few pictures of the decor.

The balconies were festooned with holiday decorations.

Apparently, the Voices of Liberty did not perform before this showing of the attraction, or I had missed them, because I have no further pictures within this attraction.

Next: Italy

Italy and Germany

I then headed past Italy, snapping a photo or two as I passed:

In all the times I have visited EPCOT, I have never lingered in Italy, probably because it doesn't have an "attraction". I have promised myself that the next time I visit Walt Disney World (if I ever visit again) I will make a point of exploring Italy.

Then, it was on to Germany. I took the obligatory model railway photos, as I had both Lionel and HO railroad sets when I was younger.

I either did not go into any of the stores in Germany, or simply did not take any pictures inside, if I did.

From there, it was on to China.

Next: China

China, and the end of the trip

I walked past the Outpost, and over the bridge into China. There I was greeted by the sight of the main pavilion, which is styled after the Temple of Heaven:

I always find the Tomb Warriors exhibit enjoyable and informative.

4905209321_25f1f20de8_b.jpg

The building containing the Tomb Warriors had a plaque indicating it was known as the "House of Whispering Willows". I could find nothing in internet searches indicating the origin of this name, nor who Liu Yin Ge is (or was).

4905798460_aa1729a9a7_b.jpg

The exhibit itself was excellent, as ever. I had first thought the terra cotta figures were originals, but on research when I got home, I found out that they were replicas; this makes sense, as why would a country put priceless artifacts on permanent display in a foreign country? But they were still, as I have already said, breathtaking.

After looking at the artifacts, I believe I saw "Reflections of China", but I may not have, as I do not have any photos of either the theater or the waiting area.

Anyway, after this I exited the pavilion and took some photos of World Showcase Lagoon:

It appears that the fireworks barge had been towed out into the lagoon:

I decided it was time to head out of the park, so I headed for Future World. As I passed the Epcot Christmas Tree, I took a couple of pictures.

As I was passing Spaceship Earth, I decided to take a couple of pictures of it, feeling a sense of loss at ending my last theme park visit, and my last full day of my trip. Little did I know that one year later, I would be back.

I walked out through the park exit, and made my way to my rental car. I drove back to the timeshare, greeted my parents, and had dinner with them. I then proceeded to make sure that all of my luggage was packed for the trip to the airport. Since my parents and I would all be taking the same flight out the next day, my father and I drove our rental cars to the car return place before 7 PM, to avoid the extra day's rental fee on my car, and I rode back to the timeshare with my father. I took a shower and went to bed.

November 20

We got up early, ate a light breakfast, packed the car, drove to the Metropolitan Orlando airport, and returned our car, checked in with the airline, and got through security smoothly. The flight was on time, and before I knew it, we were wheels up!
