Disney Cali to vegas

You can do it in around 4 hours or so.. plus or minus 30 minutes for traffic.

I'm not sure what you situation is but you might take a look at this thread regarding luxbus from Anahiem to LV. It may be useful for you.

Also consider the distance isn't bad, but time can varie depending on traffic. Rush hour in LA can add a lot of time. Also Friday afternoon to night will cause traffic in the desert, as will LV to LA on Sunday afternoon evening.

We did it two weeks ago as part of our roadtrip. It took around 4 hours or so each way.

We are traveling from Disney Cali to Las Vegas on Wednesday March 2. Had planned on flying from LAX but after seeing this thread, keeping the rental car, driving to LV and then turning it in at the airport there sounds like a better idea.

I had booked an 11:30 flight, would be interested in opinions - what time would we have to leave DL to make an 11:30am LAX flight? How would the total time compare to just driving?

Appreciate any local knowledge!

It is almost a toss up. If you have to be on a plane at 11:30,

1.5 hours in airport. 1.25 hours on plane. .5 hours driving DLR to LAX. Then a taxi from LAS to your hotel, just added cost. If you aren't a VIP there are not free hotel shuttles taking you to the strip hotels.

If you drive. Look at it this way. 4 hours is about average so you are just going to spend an extra 45 minutes. But you can get there quicker if you don't stop for lunch, plus you won't be going at a time you are likely to hit traffic. If you do stop for lunch enjoy that time because it's better than peanuts at 30,000 feet. Sure there could be some unseen problem in the Mojave causing a delay but word is, airlines aren't known for being on time.

Have a rental when you get to Vegas, here is a couple advantages. Drive to Hoover Dam for an afternoon dam tour. Go to a grocery store or in my case a liquor store for some refreshments. When you drop the rental off, ask for the airport shuttle but see if they can take you to your casino. I've done this a couple times and for a $5tip I've not had to use a much more expensive taxi.

Thanks skiingfast, did some research, its cheaper to rent vehicle for our stay at DL, use it to drive to LV, keep it there and return it at LAS when we fy out than it is to do separate rentals in LA and LV.

Aside from the extra drive time, any drawbacks to leaving DL and going to LV via Hoover Dam?

We were looking at this too. Allegiant Air has $10 flights from Anaheim/Long Beach airport to Vegas.

We took Lux Bus (www.luxbus.com) from Anaheim to Vegas last summer. They picked us up from our hotel, then they bring you to the Anaheim Gardenwalk mall, in the lower level is where they leave from, it leaves in the morning, stopped 1/2 way there, (a couple of hours into the trip) in Barstow for us to stretch our legs and get something to eat, and then another couple of hours to Vegas. It brought us right to our hotel, the Flamingo, although there are a couple of other choices they stop at like Harrah's. They show a movie on small tv monitors that hang above the seats, and they serve drinks (sodas, water, beer & wine) and snacks too! You can do r/t or o/w. Our cost was $99 per person r/t. We enjoyed it thoroughly!

It's not a bad drive. We've done it roundtrip once in the daytime and then another trip both drives were at night. It was much more interesting in the daytime. It's usually a bit over 4 hours, but on our last drive late November, we got into LAX at 3:15, didn't get to vegas until 2am. There was a major pile up on the freeway and we couldn't get off and we didn't know about it until we were committed. It was nuts. But normally, it's not bad at all :) Have fun!!

We actually drive to Las Vegas many times and we're coming from San Diego which is about another 1.5 hours. The drive there isn't bad once you do it a few times. We used to fly but then broke it down and determined that having to drive to the airport and wait and then the flight time and then waiting for a cab and the cost of airfare and cab ride didn't really equal up to much saving in money and time. The difference is that once you're there, you'll either continue to spend money suing the cabs or have your own car to drive and should you decide to stay a little longer or leave earlier, you can since you have your car.

To each their own, but you do have to be careful and mindful of your travel time because you can get caught in some pretty nasty traffic. One time, it took us 6.5 hours to get back to SD.

We've done the drive now so many times, that it doesn't even bother us anymore and we don't give the drive any more thought. We have our usual stop points for food and bathroom and gas and before we know it, we're there.

There are def benefits to driving and flying but I guess you'll have to just weight them for youself and determine which is more beneficial to you.

It's a 4 - 4 1/2hour drive each way.... If you prefer, you can take Southwest to LAX each way for $19 if you book early.

Disney traveled to Cali to Las Vegas Wednesday, March 2. Planning on the flight from Los Angeles, but after seeing this thread, keeping the rental car, leading to VI, then turn the airport looks like a idea.Look better that way. 4 hours is average, if you're going to spend an additional 45 minutes. But you can get there faster if you do not stop for lunch, so it will not at any time, is likely to hit traffic.

Penguins_fan: Driving over the Hoover Dam from LA is not really possible since its not on the way to Vegas except if you go through Phoenix and that's about a total of 10 hours of driving to go that way. A day trip is your best bet after you get to Vegas. It's only about a 30-45 minute drive off the strip depending on traffic. Have a great time and drive safe!
