December trip! Opinions needed!!

We are planning a trip to Universal for November 29-December 4th. Taking 5 year old grandson for Grinchmas! We will be going to both parks. Hoping to stay at Cabana Bay to save some money but worried about not having express pass. We stayed at Portofino in June and express came in very handy. Can anyone tell me what the lines are like at the parks that time of year? It would be about $900 to upgrade to a deluxe hotel. Any responses and opinions are greatly appreciated!

We are going the same time you are and staying at Cabana Bay. We haven't been at Christmas for several years but the crowds weren't bad at all. We also had a reservation at Hard Rock but decided to downgrade when people suggested it. It makes a huge difference in cost.

Sorry, can't help with the crowds, but I wanted to point out that Sapphire Falls is comparable in price to CB. We stayed at CB in April and it was ok, but we were impressed when walking through SF to get to the ferry. For us, the ferry added to the Universal experience vs the bus, but the walk from CB was very long.
