Construction updates

Any updates on what if any construction is happening in Ko Olina, specifically the lot next door to Aulani where the Atlantis is going? We made reservations for next April in an island view villa, and we usually request a villa overlooking the lawn. Last I heard they were still in the permit stage and nothing is really happening on that lot since they closed down the chapels. Any news or movement toward actual work starting? It might be worth upgrading to pool or ocean view if it’s starting by then, but we have to wait until the 7 month mark to change because we would need to rent a few extra points from someone. Thanks for your insight.

No one can tell you what will be happening next April but so far there is nothing happening on that plot. The Chapel between Aulani and the land is being demolished and that is cordoned off but the large plot hasn’t changed.

Thanks, I will keep checking. This has to be the slowest project ever. When we were there in 2018, we heard construction could start any day.

We heard about the plans for it in 2016! I haven't been following it that closely to know what the hold up is, but its certainly been a slow moving project.

At this point I'm wondering if that resort will ever be built.

This would be the only Atlantis without a casino. I've read speculation suggesting Atlantis was having second thoughts.

Edited to add At least trying to design a resort which will be profitable without a casino.

Construction...and well most everything else takes longer (quite often much longer) in Hawaii...If you purchase dvc with Aulani being your home resort they’ll also tell you that the deed will take a lot longer to get sent and that there isn’t anything they can do about it (sadly they really aren’t lying or exaggerating at all)

theres also a lot of weird business laws and such that are fairly unique to Hawaii that most businesses get caught up in, and sometimes just give up.

Supply chains, and other logistics also can be huge unforeseen costs for companies that try to expand into Hawaii (check out the prices at the five guys in Hawaii vs any other location)

Wouldn’t bother me if it doesn’t end up being built. I would welcome some additional restaurants, but not the crowds that would come with it. Aulani’s Cove is busy enough as is.
