Drew Smyly was sent to the Rangers and Cole Hamels option was picked up by the Cubs.
I saw a rumor earlier..sure wish we would have had a chance to see Smyly in action but I get the known of Hamels vs the unknown of Smyly. Cubs are chipping away at the $$$ by this move as well. Appears TX is our trade buddy lol. Too bad we couldn't get them to include Chatwood (as much as I like him off the mound) or Kintzler ~however...
Welcome back, Hollywood!!!!!!!!
anyone starting their holiday shopping? For the Cub fan(s) in your life:
I saw Kinzler might be on the chopping block along with Chatwood.
Oh I'm sure they are trying to get out from under Chatwood's contract big time. I'm guessing they are trying to package him perhaps with Monty/Addie type deal. *If* they are indeed looking to shop Addie this low. Might wait until Aug for that and see if he has increased his value any.
Happy anniversary everyone! We are still the defending NATIONAL LEAGUE World Series champs!
(I know I'm actually a couple hours early)
Looks like Phillies might be going after Harper and Machado. Yankees or was it the Mets also showing interest in Machado. Giants might also go after Harper.
It's "throw a dart" time, lol. I doubt we hear wherever either of them is going until the last minute. More interesting to me right now is the Brewers hiring Andy Haines from the Cubs as their new hitting coach.
I would be pretty happy if the Cubs could get Hinske back....
It’s a tie! Congratulations Tony!
Nobody beat's the Riz! (ties, maybe...lol)
Javy and JHey snubbed
I listen to several Cubs podcasts during the season when driving. This one
is less popular and it’s just two guys stressing over things but they do it more frequently which is good during the off-season.
If we go for BH or MM at 35M per year we’re looking at a 50+ million level 3 salary cap penalty which... by rumors that are circulating... the Ricketts may not want to necessarily green light for just one so-called “generational” player alone. Unclear where the rumors are coming from and with what motives: from our competition? From Boras? From our own front office as a countermove if they are having philosophical differences with TR? I may be in the minority but I’d be all for using 2/3 of that money to have mutiple fixes and depth than just on one person. One thing that everyone agrees with, have to go for it these next 2 years. Can’t have a 220M payroll just to be Rockies-level good. Brewers did that impressively with less than 100M. Have to wisely spend another 20-30M (=60,70 w penalties) to get elite again. And they get that money back several fold when the results come in.
I think there may be a smidge of "Yu-itis" going on, Can't spend another ton and boom, injured . BH does have a knack for landing on the DL from time to time. I mentioned before if KB wants to donate some of his future earnings towards acquiring his buddy, fine but I don't see that happening. I know the Brewers found talent reasonably priced (Jeter sticking it to the Cubs & STL)we shall see if they regress. The chatter on what the Cubs will do is all over the place and almost seems intentionally confusing.I'm of the "smoke screen" thought on it. I would prefer to NOT put all the eggs in one MM or BH basket but I think it's worth tossing the hat in the ring play and see what happens.I DO think tho, that if having Darvish & Chatwood on the books is the roadblock to MM or BH, a lot of fans are going to be livid. They are still in a tizzy over JHeys contract but at least he contribute's to the W's. Fans want Addie gone ASAP, but he is cheap compared to alternatives and they need to see *some* of his value return b4 trading. Can't honestly be thinking 350 million for one player without some cause and effect like keeping Addie. No ones gonna touch Chatwood and Monty needs to stay if possible on the Darvish unknowns, Lester/Hamels regression.injuries, you name it. Things feel very reactive vs proactive at the moment (to me, anyway) but that is the exact oppo of how Theo rolls so I am stepping back , way back...and just waiting on official word that will hit in a few months, sooner would be icing.Personally...I would like Cogs brought back, hes up for grabs too
ETA: looking over the current FA pool, & I'm not so sure Theo wants to swim. Next year may be more to his liking. I also am 50/50 on the whole Joe lame duck thing. Last season was a killer physically. Joe may be the one hitting the breaks on any talks of extending , who knows.Cubs would love a lower cost Manager, tho. I can also see Joe with the Angel's. Wouldn't THAT be a twist.Joe getting to manage Theo's brass Ohtani ring lol
I missed that LAA hired Brad Ausmus..so, nevermind. Looks like Joe and Q can open another restraurant, jointly, lol.
Different sport, same town. Joel Quenneville is fired. In sports, not what you did yesterday, but what are you doing today.
Back on topic now, CUBS.
You said it, Dan...sad. Idon't follow hockey but even I know Q's agent must be fielding a boatload if calls from other teams who will dump their coaches in a heartbeat to get Q. 3 Stanley Cups, right? Insanity. It's usually the wrong guy let go in situations like this.
Being Election Day..VOTE FOR RIZZO!
I love Rizzo, but Freddie Freeman was a better first baseman this year. They should have given it him alone and not in tandem with Rizzo.
As for FA, I also read that the Cubs might not be looking at any of them because they have to worry about the young un's salary demands this year. Also heard the White Sox were looking at both Harper and Machado
RE: the White Sox~ they can look at MM and BH 'till the cow's come home but I'm pretty sure neither wants to play for an empty park during a rebuild
Decent article from Tony Andracki reeling in the free spenders
We don't need no stinkin' Bryce Harper.
Now buzz on Hickey not returning...
