We were at the Poly from3/27 to 4/5 and thought I'd mention some minor changes.

The shop on the first floor that has carried some Disney themed merchandise is now exclusively stocked with things for children...clothes as well as some toys. I personally liked the old shop better but for families with little kids I'm sure it's nice.

They are doing a big project to put in new pipes to carry the cold water for air conditioning. They will be doing every building eventually. Also saw them lay a new sidewalk to the parking lot.

Checked out the decor in a refurbished building and the only difference I saw was in the hallway. The walls have sort of a stucco finish instead of wallpaper. It is a cream color and the insets for the doors are a salmon color (this is the only place I noticed where green is gone for those of you who remember that thread). The carpet in the hall is the newer bolder pattern that has been in Rapa Nui and Tahiti for a few years....different than Hawaii for instance. It still has the same greens and salmon though. The rooms are exactly as before....same spreads, curtains, furniture, green lampposts and sconces, etc.

I have LOTS of questions for you. :)

Do you remember the name of the building you were checking out? Or the location? Was it much nicer than the buildings that haven't been renovated yet?

Was the construction project a problem? Was it noisey? Do you think it would disturb children who nap in the afternoons? Which buildings are they working on right now?

Did you notice if Samoa is done yet?

Which building is your favorite?

Did you take the boat to MK? How was it?

Thanks!! :)

Hi Erika I was checking out Fiji. No it was not any nicer than than our building Rapa Nui or Tahiti or Tokelau both of which I cut through during our stay.

The construction work at Samoa was still going on although it looked to me as if they might be finished in the rooms on the 3rd floor and close on the 2nd. The sheers were pulled on the 3rd just as the mousekeepers do when they're finished. Sheers were open in 2nd floor rooms and the lampshades still had protective covers on them.

The pipe construction project caused one walkway to be blocked a couple days while we were there but this was no problem. Didn't notice any problem with noise and we were always back in the resort in early afternoon. They are very protective of the guests' experience at the Polynesian IMHO.

I love each building we've been in. We're usually in Rapa Nui these days because our DD has CP and needs an accessible bathroom. The gardenviews on the north side of that building are so beautiful and peaceful. When our boys were little we stayed in present day Hawaii and loved that. We've also been back there for concierge a few times in the last couple years when our daughter was just down for a few days. For a number of years we stayed on the west side of present day Samoa which was great for pool access when our kids were growing. I really think each building has advantages and it's own magic.

I didn't take the launch this time because I was usually with my DD who was in a power chair...can't take those on the launches. We didn't even do the ferry this trip which I think may be the fastest form of transportation of all if you're in one of the newer buildings. The rest of my family did use the launches which we all love.

Have a great trip!

We are planning to request Fiji, unless we change our minds again. ;) We want to be close to the boat launch because we spend so much time at MK. Also I thought it would seem nicer since the building was remodeled last year.... but maybe that's not an issue. We really don't spend much time at the pool so maybe the TTC side would be good for us.... I'm not sure. It's going to be so busy next week it may not even matter what we request. We'd really like to have a balcony though, because dh and I go out there a lot while the boys are napping in the afternoons.

It will be interesting to see where we end up. :smooth:

Erika I imagine you know but Fiji only has balconies on the third floor. You might want to request a balcony first, then mention a building if you want since the balcony plays an important part in your day.

After Samoa is finished they will begin on Hawaii which is the reason Tahiti is going to be the concierge building while Hawaii is closed.

With Hawaii closed and Tahiti only concierge and those that have gotten the Polynesian as an upgrade due to the closing of POFQ I would imagine the resort will be close to capcity the entire summer.

It will be interesting to see if this affects how they fill room requests.

Yes it will! we are there May 7-11 and are really wondering what will happen as we have been booked for over a year with a land/sea pacage, I have read on some post (don't remember if it was here or another BB) that people are getting up-grades sent to them in the mail to consiarge, I hope some of that pixi dust falls on US!!!!!
And have been keeping an eye on the info from POFQ reserved guest, there sure seems to be alot coming into the poly! and we couldn't get a room 6 mo.ago for after our cruise!!! looks like it will be a real packed place!!!
