Canadian Buffoon's Semi-EPIC Vacation - 10/29 - Link to new TR!

I've done almost exactly the same.
I did buy a UOG for this trip, though...
But not the Disneyworld one. ;)

Was it this one?

I had high hopes a few years ago that sadly never came to fruition  Someday...

Also, in my haste to post yesterday, I didn't even notice that my Gif didn't even show up in my post. It just looked like I was being a fancy-pants snooty smart girl. I've edited it to include the Gif which has now lost all hope of it's intended effect, but at least when you go back and read all this years from now (right?) it'll make perfect sense :thumbsup2

We then were able to get our photo
undisturbed and unencumbered.
It's a lovely photo. Glad it was worth the effort to get it.......
I stopped and snapped this for
@Steppesister as I know she likes
her lights. I liked the birds holding
them up.
I have never noticed the birds....love that detail!
As we sat in the shade for a moment,
we saw Dug and his handler heading
our way.
Now I knew that Dug was leaving
for a well-deserved break,
(It was hot!) so didn't want
to disturb him.
But Dug is a pup of his own mind.
He came over to sniff and see if
he might be able to beg a little treat.
He came over to our table and
sniffed at the empty plate.
"Sorry, Dug." I said. "All gone."
Poor puppers. He wandered off
disconsolably, looking for more
food, I presume.
Best ever!
Soon it was time to go in
and we took our seats.
Elle turned to me.
"This is the one that pokes
you in the back, right?"
I told her not to worry,
that it didn't hurt...

Much.
In the end, the poke was more
funny than painful for both of us.
(See what I did there?)
And Elle was surprised by the
bugs "leaving" the theatre
and laughed about it later.

Bug selfie!
Love this!
What was she doing?
I was mystified.
She quickly stooped, picked up a small
Hot Wheels car and handed it
to the little boy, who immediately
stopped crying.
Poor kid had just wanted to get
his car back that he'd dropped.

So, no. She didn't see the parrots.
She was too busy watching the scene
unfold in front of her and saving the day.

She's going to make a great teacher.
She's always watching out for the little ones.
Totally love this from a fellow educator. She will be awesome!
And... just what we needed!
Seats!
Air conditioning!
Oh, and there was some kinda show, too.

A few lackluster shots from what is possibly
one of the best shows on property.
Just a few incredible shots from the best show!
We were just getting into the swing
of things when we came to an
abrupt halt.
I knew that occasionally trucks
would have to wait as some
animal crossed the road.
(Why did the chicken cross the road?
To make someone late for an ADR.)

We were stuck, moving intermittently
a few feet only to stop again, for
20 minutes.
I kept looking nervously at the time.
We were not going to be on time
for our ADR.

All because of these guys.
I had the same thing happen to me in March!
After we disembarked,
we made a mad dash
over to Yak & Yeti.
We arrived for our 6:00pm ADR
precisely at... 6:17pm.
I explained that we'd been delayed
by a giraffe and the host replied with
"It happens."
I'm going to use that excuse
everywhere now!
Worked like a charm!

Within five minutes, we were
escorted up the stairs
and sat at a table by a window.
Perfect seat!
This led to her dubbing the place
as "Yuck and Yeti".
She still calls it that.

I will maybe go back...
and try something else...
but I'm not in a rush to do so.
Sorry to hear this! We have always had such good meals there.
It was only a little after 7:30pm
and not quite dark enough to
truly appreciate Pandra.
We checked the wait time
for IASM (It's a Small Moon. Aka Na'vi)
and the wait time was 45 minutes.
We didn't have anything better
to do and weren't likely to get
another chance, so...
In line we got.
We were on the ride a reasonable
40 minutes later.
Perfect way to end out the day!

Thank you, thank you!

Hahaha to the "Howdy". He's the furthest thing from a cowboy, but his dad was actually a real cowboy back in the day! When I got off the plane on my first trip to Calgary, there was a man wearing a big white cowboy hat who gave me a smile and big ol' "Howdy!" My initial reaction was to laugh, until I realized he was serious. Then a year later I went to the stampede for the first time and everything made sense.
I've never been to the Stampede
but of course am very familiar
with it.
The immigration process is very lengthy, especially over the last few years. First, I have to send a petition to the government asking for permission for him to apply for a visa. In this application, I had to provided a TON of proof that we have a bona fide marriage. Since we don't live together yet, it's a bit tougher to prove since they prefer joint bank accounts, mortgages together, etc. So, I had to provide things like invoices from our wedding (to prove it wasn't a shot-gun wedding just for a visa), photos with friends & family (to show that others know about us), receipts from trips taken together, samples of chat transcripts from every month we've been together, and the list goes on.

About a week after you send that through, you'll get a receipt telling you which USCIS processing center it went to. After that, you wait. And wait. And wait some more. The processing center we got takes an average 8-10.5 months to process & approve this part of the application. And that's one of the faster centers!

Once this part is approved, you'll get another packet in the mail explaining your next steps. This involves a 40 page online application for the beneficiary spouse (the one applying for the visa, I'm the petitioner). I also have to fill out another form called the "Affidavit of Support" and send off my last 4 tax return transcripts, proving that I can support him until his finds work.

During this time he also has to get finger printed and request a police record from Canada and gather tons of documents and copies of those documents to get ready for this interview. At some point after he sends everything off he'll get a notice with his interview date.

The only consulate in Canada that does immigration interviews is in Montreal. After he gets his interview date and at least a week before his interview, he has to go for a physical. There are only 4 places in Canada that do the physicals (one in BC, 2 in Ontario, and 1 in Montreal). One interview location and 4 physical locations...Because, you know, Canada is so teeny tiny, it's obviously easy to just bounce around to these places. So, the easiest thing for him to do, is go to Montreal a full week before his interview and get his physical there. Then wait 4 days at which point he'll be able to pick up his physical packet (which comes in a sealed envelope that he is NOT allowed to open...ever). Then he goes to his interview with all of the paperwork.

He'll have his interview and (fingers crossed) get approved. Then he goes back home to Calgary (with his still sealed physical envelop) and waits for his passport to be mailed back to him which will have his visa in it. Once he has this in hand, he has 6 months to go through a POE (point of entry), one just so happens to be at the Calgary Airport. So he'll go through immigration and get taken to one of those scary little rooms where he will hand over his sealed physical envelop and his passport with the visa. They then open the envelop. (I swear the whole envelop thing is just a test to see if we can follow instructions). He'll get a stamp on his visa which basically activates it and will start of the process of his green card getting created.

Then we wait for the green card to be mailed to his new address in the US. After he gets that, he can go get his SSN and will officially be a "Conditional Resident" for 2 years. Before those 2 years are up we have to apply for his "Immediate Relative" visa which will last 10 years. He can either keep renewing this or apply for citizenship after 5 years.

The fun part is that each one of these steps costs A LOT of money. And then they go and throw in that week long trip to Montreal. I don't know how we're going to afford Disney after all of that, but he's certainly going to have earned it!
Holy crap!
That's... some process!
So the whole thing from
start to finish takes about
a year for the Conditional Resident
status and sometime after that you
apply for the VISA which is good
for 10 years but can apply for
citizenship after 5 years.
So start to citizenship is minimum

about six years?
Sorry for the lengthy reply! We probably have the visa in hand now as I'm sure it's taken a year to read through all that, haha!
Thanks for the detailed
response!
I had no idea it was that
laborious a process.
I just assumed since our
Countries are so close
geographically and politically, etc
that it would be far quicker.

I envisioned a couple months.

That's very specific.
I very specifically kept notes
on transportation wait times.
Checking the time of arrival
at the stop and the arrival
time of the mode of transport.

(Usually a bus, but boats, too.)
Exactly what she deserved!
Yer darned tootin'!
Was it the karate lady?
::yes::
You know you can see the queue and not the show (and therefore skip getting poked in the back??)
I do!
I may just photograph the
queue next time and skip the show.
This reminds me of the creation of "prolly" to replace "probably"
I guess the bab is silent there.
Exactly like that.
Please, please use this excuse somewhere else and then let me know how it works.
Oh, I plan on it. ;)

I noticed your current ticker, and it looks like we'll just miss each other once again!
<sigh> Yeah... I know.
I think I'm missing a few people
by just a little bit.

Poor planning on my part.

Assuming it's an east coast Disney trip in your future, I'll likely be leaving WDW just a short week or two before you arrive.
Yep. East coast.
One of these times, hopefully, we'll finally cross paths!
Maybe!
Some day!!

Never noticed this detail before. Neat!
Soooo many hidden
(or not so hidden) details!

It's a pretty beautiful and entertaining queue, really.
It is. I think I'll go and
just photograph that,
next time.
Listening to reactions to this part is my favourite moment of this little show.
Ya got a sadistic streak, do ya?
I love this story! Sounds like she'll be an excellent teacher, indeed!
Technically... she already is!
She's been teaching dance
for several years now. :)
Hmmm...I'll give it a shot. Not sure whether it'll stick or not. It seems to me that the most common pronunciation of Pandora that I've heard onsite so far has been "Avatarland" (rhymes with shmavatarland.)
:lmao:
But mine's shorter!
Although I'm positive, yours
is more commonly used.

You're very sneaky this way.
I am. ;)
I'm sure this will work well anywhere, regardless of location and proximity to Animal Kingdom.
Oh for sure!
I'm hoping to try
it again this fall.
This is neat! I seem to remember also seeing this somewhere else...maybe Restaurantosaurus?
I haven't been there,
so don't know. :confused3

I don't spend much time around the Dinosaur ride since it makes me feel like tossing my cookies.
Buckle up the cookies, then.

:rolleyes1

Oh I certainly am not offended, but I just wouldn't have been surprised to hear that your brain was as compromised and wonky as my own! ;)
Okay, phew!
And yes... I can definitely
see how you'd think that.
That sounds fair...hey! wait a minute...
You got it!
I thought ath muchth.
You should know by now that I'm definitely uncommon folk. ::yes::
You are definitely uncommon folk.
The best kind of uncommon.

I loved that comic!
It was easily one of my fave. :)
I wonder if they are going to be scooter accessible, somehow I think not.
They might be.
Judging by the size of the building,
there was plenty of room for a ramp.
And the speed at the station is very slow.

And yet... the entire system is designed
to never stop, so... maybe not?
I'm not sure, Alison.

Guess we'll find out this fall.
Hey I didn't design it.
I just wrote about it.

I really want to try this, but somehow, I don't think we are going to make it there this next trip. Short, and we have plans in the three other parks.
Then the next trip.
Try it then.
I don't think you'll be disappointed.
We don't have that attraction anymore, Bug's Land is gone in place of it Marvel Land is coming.
Marvelous.
Unofficial Guide
You're welcome. :)
:)
She's a much better person than me. I would be thinking, "Lady, take the kid back to the room if he can't shut up!"
"Or I'll give him something
to cry about!"

Never going to catch on. So much nicer to say Pan-door-a
But I can say "Pandra" fast
three times in the time it takes
you to say "Pan-door-a".

And at Disney, time is money!
People are nuts. Why didn't she try the thingy outside before waiting that whole time.
I've stopped trying to understand people.
Always a bonus when you can be entertained while enjoying the seat and AC.
Looooove AC in Florida.
What did you want them to do? Honk the horn, yell "get outta my way!" and run it down?
Sure!
I've never eaten giraffe, before.

Me too, I think they're cute.
Cute it is!

No biggie, just tell them you got delayed by a giraffe.
Good idea!
I should've thought of that!

Did they give you Liesa's table?
They did!
Tell her its just tasty tofu!
Funny about that.
She's kind of a passive pescatarian.
She'll try to not eat meat. But if some
sneaks in and she didn't know about it,

she won't beat herself up about it.
I make some pretty good crab cakes, and I'm usually never pleased with those I get at a restaurant.
Just one more of your dishes
I must try some day. :)

I actually prefer the QS. We order a couple egg rolls, and an order of Fried Rice to split. Perfect light meal for two of us.
That sounds good.
Just may order that. :)

That's not bad, I've definitely seen it over 100 minutes a lot of times.
Me too.
And if it had been an hour or more,
she wouldn't have seen it.
I hope that this is not foreshadowing of something more ominous.
You'll see.
Yes I did, hard to tell if he was being entertained or part of the show.
;)

Was it this one?
410804
Nope!
I had high hopes a few years ago that sadly never came to fruition  Someday...
I thought I'd never go...
And now, here I've gone twice!

No worries.
I kinda knew what you
probably wanted to post.
I was close too.
(I went back and looked. ;))
Love The Office.
I just finished binge watching

it a couple weeks ago.
#tripreportcommentfail
:lmao:

It's a lovely photo. Glad it was worth the effort to get it.......
No real effort.
She hardly put up a fight.

I have never noticed the birds....love that detail!
I love all the details
in the parks. :)

Best ever!
Love it when Disney magic
just... happens. :)

Love this!
 Thanks!
Totally love this from a fellow educator. She will be awesome!
She already is.
She's been teaching dance
for a few years now and...
Well, I may be biased, but...

I think she's incredible.
Just a few incredible shots from the best show!
Awww... thanks. :)
I had the same thing happen to me in March!
Time to put those critters behind a fence!
Or... better yet...
Let the tourists wander around

on their own.

:rolleyes1
Perfect seat!
Not too bad!
Sorry to hear this! We have always had such good meals there.
Was so disappointed.
I'd heard such good things, and...

Oh well.
Now I have a list of dishes

to try for next time. :)
Perfect way to end out the day!
Yes it was! :goodvibes

Hoookay.
I think I'm caught up
with shout-outs?

If I missed you, lemme know!

I had to post this here, since you had mentioned seeing this plane in one of your updates.

DD19 left for the Dominican Republic Friday past. (Her and a few friends are enjoying a week on the beach while they are young and *think* they can afford it. We had a chat with her about being careful down there.)
Her first flight was St. John's to Toronto and she was excited to get WestJet's Frozen plane (a bit strange since it wasn't flying them to Florida though).
DD was talking to the stewardess about it and mentioned that she' a *ahem* "friend" of Elsa at kid's birthday parties. The stewardess even got excited and went outside to take this picture.
As you will notice in the picture, they were also happy to be escaping the lovely RDF we had all weekend (rain, drizzle, fog)

Just saw that over on the Dad's board.
Totally jealous!
Tell her to write a TR.

When I first saw Captain Hook,
I thought. "Must be hot wearing
a coat in the heat."

marvin-hook_zps4ublhche.gif

But have you ever tried unbuttoning
a jacket with only one hand?

I'm betting his seamstress must
be pretty busy.
"More holes? Can't you get Smee
to do your buttons?"

How did you get him to blink?! Also, Tink is my favorite... and if I had to guess why she's carrying a wand, I'd say because she always has one, here:
411337
But that's a complete guess. She also has one when she flies out from the Castle during the fireworks show.

Holy Cow! How did I not know that you loved A Christmas Story?! My whole family LOVES a Christmas Story..... why, do you ask?! Because my dad is FROM Hammond, Indiana.... which anyone who loves that movie KNOWS is where is it is set. He also went to the private catholic school that is just blocks from the school that is supposed to be Warren G. Harding Elementary school. ***AND*** I am originally FROM Terre Haute, Indiana- where the line stretched back to (when they went to see Santa) AND where the man who won the bowling alley was from.... even though "the old man" mispronounces it. The next time you're in Indiana, I'll take you on a tour of Hammond and/or Terre Haute- and show you were the "alleged bowling alley" is! Just don't look at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears!

Rebecca!
:welcome: to the TR!

How did you get him to blink?!
He is? Huh.

I don't control him you know.

:rolleyes1
Also, Tink is my favorite...
Because she's sassy?
and if I had to guess why she's carrying a wand, I'd say because she always has one, here:

 Oh my gosh!
Of course! You're right!!

:faint:
But that's a complete guess. She also has one when she flies out from the Castle during the fireworks show.
You're right. I forgot that. :)

Holy Cow! How did I not know that you loved A Christmas Story?!
How could you not know???

I've written about going
to the Christmas Story House

in Cleveland... twice!

That's so cool!!!
I didn't know about the
mis-pronounciation.
I'll have to look for that, next time.

Okay... wait...
"The man who won the bowling alley"?
What man who won the bowling alley????
That's not in the movie? I mean the "old man"
says that he could have won a bowling alley
and the mom asks about it and he replies

that it could be the deed.

:confused3

The next time you're in Indiana, I'll take you on a tour of Hammond and/or Terre Haute- and show you were the "alleged bowling alley" is! Just don't look at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears!
oooooh... I would love that!!! ::yes::

We both left the show
with smiles on our faces.

I did! Also- I've never been to Pandora, Yak & Yeti as a sit down (only their counter service) nor have I been to the Lion King show before or the tree of life show. BUT- When we go in October, we're going to ride boat ride in Pandora and also FotLK because JR who will be 5 when we go, LOVES the Lion King. So I'm pretty excited to see everything.

Um... You did what?
Wait...
Is it DISboard, family friendly?
Also- I've never been to Pandora,

I think he'll like it.
It's very well done
with lots of eye candy. :)

No Pain, No Rain

Epcot has morning
extra magic hours today.
But I didn't feel the need to
quite make rope-drop.
Just getting in before the
unwashed (ie, offsite) masses
was good enough for me.

I woke up five minutes before
my alarm time of 7:00am.
Elle wasn't getting up until 7:30am,
so I took the opportunity
to relax on the balcony
while munching on some
delicious bacon, courtesy
of @docsoliday1.
It was unfortunate that Elle
didn't eat pork, whereupon
I was forced to consume it
all by myself.

Tragic.

DSC07414_zpsvnavnp8j.jpg

Not long after, it began to rain.
Now, I typically pay good money
not only for a transportation VIP pass,
but for a weather VIP pass too.
I notified Disney of what was going on
and by the time we walked out of our room,
about 8:00am, it had stopped raining.

Of course.

We arrived, after a leisurely sashay,
at the bus stop a few minutes later,
at five past the hour.
I looked up at the board and saw
that the next Epcot bus wouldn't
arrive until 8:20.
A friendly CM asked us where we
were headed and when I told him,
he consulted with his tablet
and let me know that the bus
was indeed going to be about
another 15 minutes.

I didn't want to be rude,
but...

I had charged my VIP bus card
during the night.
I knowingly winked at Elle and...

At 8:07, two minutes after we arrived,
an empty Epcot bus pulled up.
Elle and I were the only passengers.
I presume Disney's way of apologizing
for the previous day's unimaginable
20 and 30 minute waits.

In no time, we were in line for bag check.
The Epcot bag check is registered with the
Guinness Book of World Records as the
slowest bag check line in the world!

We were very excited to be a part of it.

It wasn't too bad yet, since the park
wasn't open to the common rabble.

We were in (standby) line for TT by 8:36.

IMG_1754b_zpscezfp0ys.jpg

Always love the concept car on display.

IMG_1755_zpsny6sh1mn.jpg

I let Elle design our car.
Of course she chose pink.

IMG_1756_zpsabw0lxya.jpg

IMG_1757_zpsmend5j6n.jpg

We didn't win... but we didn't
come in last in our group either.

To be honest, I hardly ever pay
attention to the numbers.
I'm not there enough to develop
strategies for best car.
I just concentrate on enjoying the ride.
Maybe next time, I'll try to figure it out.

Unfortunately, there was an issue
with the ride photos at that time
so we didn't get one.

We got off the ride and I checked the time.
We had a few minutes to spare.
We headed to...
The front of the park.

IMG_1760_zpspdrjmbii.jpg

The Blue Angels were scheduled
to do a fly over today and I was stoked!
I've seen a few aerobatic teams,
but never the Blue Angels.
I asked a CM which direction
they'd be traveling, so I'd know
where to be to get a good shot.
I wanted to shoot them as they
passed over SE and hoped that
they'd fan out overhead as they passed.
I learned that they'd fly from South to North.
Or, for those of you who are directionally
challenged, from World Showcase
towards Future World.

Elle wasn't sure what to expect,
but she was still having a good time.

IMG_1761_zpswubsmj4k.jpg

I got my phone ready
(I left the big camera at
the hotel, today.)
and readied myself for
the exact moment when
they'd come roaring over
the ball towards me!!!

IMG_1763_zpsgyw4xoch.jpg

Oh.

I've said this before.
CMs are not allowed to say
"I don't know."
I suspect that on occasion,
a CM will just give information
that he thinks might be right,
rather than have to go to the
trouble of actually finding out.

Still makes for an interesting
photo, I suppose.

Oh well. Here, look at some topiaries.

IMG_1764_zpsj8nkqx0f.jpg

IMG_1767_zpseo9yqdan.jpg

We made our way back
towards TT and while we walked,
a lone Blue Angel F18 did an
overhead break just above us.
No idea what the rest did.
Another thing I wasn't aware of.

I need to get to an airshow.

We bypassed TT and headed straight
for Mission Space.
Our first FP of the day.
And Elle insisted on riding Orange.
I told her I would happily puke on her.
She replied "But Dad. They don't take
real astronauts from the Green side."
I told her that I was too old to be
an astronaut.
She looked at me genuinely surprised
and said. "You are???"

That right there made my day.
That's why you should have kids, folks.

After successfully (?) crash landing on Mars,
we took the walkway back to Earth.
(It seemed farther away, when we took
the space ship. Odd, that.)
I cleaned my face and she rinsed out her clothes
and we headed over to our next FP.
We got to The Land shortly after
our FP window for Soarin' opened up
and I made sure to ask for "Center Row, Top".
You have to.
It's the difference between a good ride
and a horrible ride.
And yet...

Even though it had been ten years
since she was last on Soarin'
(apostrophe trademarked... now
who remembers that???)
she still said she missed the smell
of oranges.
The polar bears bug me.
They don't move like that
in real life.
Oh well, still a nice ride.

We wandered over to the Seas
and rode Nemo.
I've only done this ride a few times,
but I don't remember the underside
of this boat in the queue.

IMG_1771_zps5xbt6rme.jpg

IMG_1772_zpsbki82l8t.jpg

Elle decided she wanted to do Crush next.
We had about a 25 minute wait for the
next show, so we wandered around
the holding area, looking at the critters
and playing the trivia games.

IMG_1793_zps5thr8mdk.jpg

IMG_1794_zpswadeokia.jpg

I crushed her with the trivia.

The last time she saw Crush
(ten years ago), was the last
time I saw Crush.
Some things had changed.
I remember how Crush would
go fetch an item that he didn't
understand and ask the kids
about it.
When I was last there, it was
a bikini top.

Now, in our much more strict
and stringent PC world,
the bikini has changed to...

No uptight people complaining
that little Johnny has been traumatized.
But no real laughs, either.

Still, the show was enjoyable
and the kids' reactions were
as fun to see as always.

Another change is that Dory
and Destiny (had to look that up)
are now part of the show.
I'm fairly sure that neither were
there in earlier iterations.

A blue whale also makes an
appearance. I don't recall that
happening either.

I could be wrong.

We walked out of the Seas to see...
People everywhere wearing ponchos,
or soaking wet or holding umbrellas.
There'd been a deluge while we were
inside and we hadn't even been aware of it.

Disney understands that in Florida it
must rain. And quite a lot at times.
But they arrange it so as not to disturb
those of us with VIP weather passes.

By now we were well within our last
FP window. We hopped on a car
that took us back in time.
Time travel you say? How is that possible?
Thank the Phoenicians!

Mini-skirts.
Thank the Phoenicians!

The Phoenicians also showed us
our future.
I love how neither of us age.
The Phoenicians also invented
kickin' skin care products.

Anyone else ever notice that
the car is plugged in????
And I'm totally digging
my Mr. T mohawk.
I love the new hair rejuvenators!
Thanks, Phoenicians!

And with that, we blasted off
from Future World and headed
towards World Showcase
and all that the Flower and Garden
festival had to offer.

Good a place as any to leave off.

And...
In case you didn't see it
last chapter:

Did you see it
in this chapter?

Coming up... Flowers and Gardens

I got my phone ready
(I left the big camera at
the hotel, today.)
and readied myself for
the exact moment when
they'd come roaring over
the ball towards me!!!

Oh.

Oops. Still a good picture though!

I'm gonna have to get me one of these VIP weather passes :rotfl2:
