Can I do this? Last minute Star Wars training while life is in the way....

I have decided to start a training journal, if nothing else as a place I can gripe about the lack of training I am currently getting in for Star Wars!

About me. I am 50 year old mom of 2 adult kids, stepmom of 2 adult kids and doggie mom to 3 adorable pups. I started running in 2015 to get ready to run the Disney Wine & Dine race. DD29 and I discovered runDisney after visiting WDW during Princess Weekend 2014. That race ended up being cut short due to storms and lightning in the area so we went back and did Princess in 2016. Then we were hooked! We ran the marathon during Marathon Weekend in 2017, then ran Dopey in 2018. Due to life, our plans for running the marathon again this year were cancelled and we decided to run Star Wars in April of this year instead.

In the midst of training for Star Wars, we decided to completely remodel our house. Yep, we are crazy like that! We are starting with converting part of the house into an in-law suite for my mom. She has lived with us since my dad died of cancer in 2008 and has always just had a bedroom. We decided it was finally time for us all to have some space of our own. Our house is a 1940's farmhouse out in the country. It is currently a 3bdrm 1 bath. We are converting it to a 2 bdrm, 2 bath, with part of that being the in-law suite. I will post pics (a lot!) to show our progress since Christmas, which is when we started tearing things up.

My training has taken a back seat to getting this done. We want to get my mom back in her bedroom as she is currently in DH's office (with her cat) while we are redoing her bedroom. This old house has no insulation so we are adding that as we go. It also has old, old wiring so DH is replacing all that room by room too. Luckily I am married to an ex journeyman carpenter and current maintenance man, who is really a jack of all trades and can do anything! The only thing he didn't want to tackle on his own was moving the propane line and hooking it up to our new tankless hot water heater. Otherwise we are doing everything ourselves.

Oh, also, did I mention that my DS30 is getting married on June 1, 2019? In California. His fiance lives in St. Petersburg, Russia and won't be in the US until the week before the wedding. Because of this, DS30 is planning the whole wedding himself. Except that means I am helping him as much as I can from Arkansas. He had booked a venue, dj and photographer. DH and I are paying for the caterer. Well in the process of talking to his venue and my caterer, we discovered that the venue has a HUGE fly problem, being that it is surrounded on all 4 sides by dairy ranches! So we decided that was a huge NO since it was supposed to be all outside and that was not something we wanted to try and deal with with the food. So we are scrambling at the moment to get a new venue booked so his invitations can go out. Mama is a little stressed!

DS30 and his fiance right after he proposed at the Grand Canyon.

My current plan is to recycle an old Dopey Badger 1/2 marathon plan, just getting as many weeks completed as I have to train in, probably starting next Monday, 2/25. I will probably update this journal with many more house remodeling and wedding updates than training updates but we will see how it goes, lol!

Starting out...

Weird closet in the corner where we are adding a bathroom door (cameo by Miss Posey!)

Ripped out the old closet. Oh and see that hardwood? It is sitting directly on the joists! Apparently they didn't put subfloors in houses in the 1940's in Arkansas back woods at least!

Tearing out this window to put in a door so she has outside access.

Window out!

DH figuring out our mess of plumbing and shiplap that is in all of our walls. But not the pretty shiplap that Joanna Gains uses. Nope, ours looks like they found a huge scrap pile of wood and puzzle pieced the walls together!

DH ripped out a bunch of the floor to access our plumbing. He replaced all the water lines with PEX and Sharkbite fittings. Expensive but so worth it! We also had a plumber come out and add a Y to that waste line so we can add our second bathroom on eventually!

New outside door is in!

Our super awesome tankless water heater! I love this thing! Hot water for days!!

Hard to tell but that is the weird closet area. We ripped down the wall, a closet in the bathroom and put in a door directly to the bathroom for my mom. After we get our master bath put in this will be her bathroom and occasionally a guest bath as it still has access in our hallway.

And insulation!

We built her a new 7 foot closet.

Drywall up!

Primer done.

52508046_10218478095973416_8580928702710284288_n.jpg

A soft gray on the walls...

52105058_10218478097213447_8110532339580272640_n.jpg

With a darker gray for the doors. We are doing wood halfway up the outside walls.

52427896_10218478097453453_5870163731677184_n.jpg

DH working while I goof off taking pics! Just kiddding, I put up most of that wood!

52415894_10218478099293499_6581570153102704640_n.jpg

Weird closet/bathroom door area. We put wood in most of it due to the awkward shapes and angles.

52281333_10218478098733485_9181832994363539456_n.jpg

Wood finished, trim up! All we have left is another coat of paint on the new bedroom door (not shown), polyurethane on all the wood and put her carpet down. We should be done with her room by Friday night and move her back in this weekend! Then we can start on turning my dining room and part of the hallway into her living room and kitchenette area. Whew, I'm tired just typing all of this out! I can't believe how much we have got done in less than 2 months, after work and on weekends. :)

YAY!!! My husband and I just went through a remodel three years ago and it was interesting to say the least! Following along!

Thanks for following! This house is a nightmare, lol. But it is getting there. I have learned to just keep my mouth shut when DH gets frustrated with stuff and I'm sure that will help our marriage, lol!

I’m running the Star Wars Half — I’m having a hard enough time fitting in training with work and a dog, so way to go!

Here is another random post but I discovered something other ladies may like to know. I buy a lot of clothes from Thredup.com. They are a great place to buy like new jeans and such from. It is an online consignment type site. Well last night I was looking at pink dresses to wear to my DS30's wedding and couldn't decide on one. I was saving them to my favorites on their site when I saw that they offer "Goody Boxes". I choose the one where I could select all my own items. So basically for a $10 non-refundable (but it goes towards any of the items you buy in that box) deposit you can select 10 items that will be mailed to you. Then you can try them all on and just keep the one or ones you like. You are only out the $10 if you don't keep any of them. So I have 10 pink dresses headed my way to try on. They send a return shipping label to put back on the box to send back what you don't keep (you have 7 days to try them on and send them back). It is NOT a subscription service, it is a one time thing. But you can get as many boxes as you want. :)

Yay! I'm so excited to read about your training and renovations. Everything looks good so far!

... assuming I can keep up. Which I probably won't be able to.

My current plan is to recycle an old Dopey Badger 1/2 marathon plan, just getting as many weeks completed as I have to train in, probably starting next Monday, 2/25. I just wanted to say good luck. I ran a half on just 3 weeks training once, so you'll have more time to train for Star Wars then I did. While I don't necessarily recommend such a plan, it can be done. And in my case, that 3 week training plan that I modified myself using a 4 week plan as the base became the catalyst for me beginning to believe the marathon might happen.

Thanks! I ran a half back in mid January so I have a bit of a base to draw from and let’s be honest, this race will be about having fun, taking lots of pics and not about time. But I don’t want to die after either! We will be in WDW till Thursday so I want to be able to move, lol! Congratulations on the marathon, btw! Huge accomplishment, I know! Dopey is next, right!

Oh and bring on baseball! Go Giants! Can’t wait for the season to start!

Just try and jump in to a similar place in the plan as to what you've been doing the last three weeks. Otherwise, you might ramp up too quickly. Might mean you end up doing less, but sometimes less is more. Being a bit too aggressive might yield some unwanted outcomes. And easy is only easy if it feels easy!

You have a much better base than I did for my 3 week training plan, so you should be fine. Have fun at Star Wars race weekend. I would love to run it this year, but it conflicts with work.

Thanks. I'm one of those completely insane people who did my first marathon as part of Dopey. Contemplating Goofy and maybe Dopey for next year, but Star Wars is almost a lock, so I may have to make the responsible choice and only do one Disney World race next year.

Oh and bring on baseball! Go Giants! Can’t wait for the season to start!
Hopefully they can avoid the injuries that have plagued them for a few seasons now.

Well, Wednesday night we got all the polyurethane on the wood done and the new bedroom door painted. Last night I had a hair appointment after work so DH just put the second coat of paint on the bedroom door and got the rest of the night off. Tonight, carpet and baseboard and we are DONE! Yay! Then tomorrow is moving day for mom and getting all the stuff out of my dining room and into the office when mom is moved out. It's a process, lol.

Good news on the wedding front - DS30 booked a new venue! Whew, now I can relax, right? Yeah, not! But he is much less stressed and that helps my stress level. He booked an all inclusive golf course so he really doesn't have to do much. It comes with a dedicated wedding planner to help him with everything. :) And the best part is, she took his budget and went backwards, so that everything would fit into the budget, including tax and service fees. Now I only have to do the fun stuff like make centerpieces for the tables and decorations for the aisle. Thank God for Pinterest and Etsy!

Tomorrow I will post some pics of the finished room. Very excited to get going on the rest of her suite!

And to start running again on Monday!
