Best way to get to NY NY from LV airport?

HOw does everyone prefer to get to the strip from the airport? I am looking for the quickest, easiest, cheapest way ... thoughts?

Uber or Lyft are both about $15 and takes about 15 minutes.

I take a taxi or rent a car. If you take a taxi, just make sure they don't long haul you. Tell them you want the shortest distance (not "fastest"). You should not be going on the highway.

Long hauling to New York, New York makes absolutely no sense though since it's less than 4 miles. It might actually save time if going to downtown, but it's longer to get to 215 than it is to get to New York, New York. If the driver tells you it's going to cost more and you approve it, they can long haul without violating the regulations.

If you're being picked up, it often makes sense to go the long route because it more freeway. And yeah I've been long hauled before, although another time the driver was warning me about it and said he wouldn't do it unless the passenger insisted.

Maybe I'm missing your point, but the reason they long haul is to increase the fare price. A cab from the airport to New York, New York is about 3 miles via local streets but about 6.5 miles via I-215. It's approximately $3 per mile, so they pick up an extra $10 by going on the freeway. Before I knew better, I was long hauled virtually every time I went to Vegas. Then, one honest cab driver took the correct route, and I realized that I had been duped my whole Vegas-going life, lol.

It's virtually never faster to take the highway to the strip unless there are really extraordinary circumstances. I don't know how many times the cab driver has recommended the highway to me because of "all the traffic" on local streets, but lo and behold when I insist, the traffic magically disappears.

The reason why you should say "shortest distance" rather than "faster" is that "shortest distance" is objective, while "faster" is up to some interpretation. The cab driver can claim they thought the highway would be faster in order to defend their actions. If you say "shortest distance" and they take the highway, that is clearly a violation. To be honest though, most of the time they don't ask and just do what they want unless you tell them upfront.

You are right that sometimes you want to take the highway, mainly if you are going downtown so you can avoid the strip, however NY/NY is not downtown.

Edit to add: anything south of NYNY (e.g. Mandalay Bay), highway may also be OK depending on the situation.

Yeah - I know that it increases the distance and the fare that's mostly based on distance. However, it could reduce the time spent in traffic. Maybe someone with a mapping program can check estimated times based on route. It's going to add 3+ miles to any trip, but it can be made up in time with just the right circumstances. I'm looking at Google Maps from Terminal 3 to Treasure Island, and the shortest route it gives is 4.2 miles using Paradise Road at 20 minutes, but the fastest at 14 minutes is the long haul route at 8.1 miles.

Personally I wouldn't do it because it's obviously doubling the miles and jacking up the fare. And the drivers aren't supposed to do it.

If I'm alone I pre-pay for a roundtrip shuttle at the airport. I'm not picky anymore, they're all the same, I just go with the one that's leaving next, then schedule my pickup the day before I leave.

Public transit is the cheapest if you're alone. Might even be cheaper if your have two or three. New York-New York is on the corner of The Strip and Tropicana. The Westcliff Airport Express leaves from Terminal 3 departures and that corner is the first stop. The main issue would be the schedule, which is more or less hourly except during the afternoon.

A single ride is $2, but you might consider getting a pass (several hours or days) that would allow use of all buses include The Deuce and SDX (the main tourist buses). There are a bunch of airport routes though.

Taxi or Uber. I don't do a shuttle because I hate waiting on others. One bad thing about renting a car now in Vegas is most casinos charge you to park there! Unless you have a certain level of Players card all of the MGM properties charge you to park in their garages.

We drive to Vegas, so we have our own car. We flew once and still rented a car. But that is our preference.

We've rented our last two visits. It did help that we got some good to incredible rates ($14/day, $125/week) which made it worthwhile, as well as free parking at the time.

With a car we could do things like do a lot of shopping or visit Death Valley. It made it a lot more convenient, although things might be considerably different these days if a hotel charges for parking.

Yeah I know this thread is old but it's better to say "shortest distance" to get to our hotel from the airport. Which btw is NYNY.

We also prefer to rent a car since it gives more flexibility and we usually don't plan out anything ahead of time and visit the casinos we prefer. Las Vegas Blvd is like a parking lot at night, with lots of VERY slowing moving traffic, so we often take that parallel freeway to go between casinos. I would imagine the experienced cab drivers know this as well. To avoid sitting for 30 min. to go 1 mile, taking the freeway at night makes the most sense. Most online map sites don't comprehend current traffic conditions, so you can't just compare distance when making a choice. After you have been to Vegas a few times, you will figure that out. Daytime traffic is nothing compared to how it is in the evening.

Airport shuttles can be handy, but still depends on how you plan to get around while you are there and where else you might want to go. Especially in the summer when it is 100+ degrees everyday, walking is just not practical (at least not for us) and casinos are farther apart then they first appear. Being outside for more than 5 min seems like stepping into an oven. The major hotels now charge about $20/day to park (self-park or valet) which used to be free.
