We are in the midst of planning a "beach" day for our upcoming trip in May. I thought maybe a morning at Laguna beach and then taking a ferry over to Balboa Island might be nice.

Would love some feedback on what Balboa island is like and would LOVE to see some pictures!!:)

We are planning on our beach day being on Mother's day, May 10, 2009.

Hi, We didn't take the ferry, but did go to the Balboa Pier. We enjoyed our time there, it's a very scenic area. Make sure you try a balboa bar and the chocolate covered frozen bananas.

Balboa Island is 99% residential, with one street that has some little shops. It is reached by a little bridge from Pacific Coast Highway, if coming up from Laguna. From there, you can take the ferry (5 min.) to Balboa Peninsula, which is where the beach and pier are.

Honestly, unless you have a huge desire to see the Newport Harbor area, you're better off staying in Laguna for the day and going to The Beachcomber Cafe at Crystal Cove for dinner.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask.:)

From Disneyland is the newport/balboa island the best place for a beach day? I would like a day where the beach is scenic and it is more flat leading into the ocean.

Any hints/directions?
