First thank you for all of the great information while planning our first trip to the Fort. While vacationing with family members this past week my wife fell and fractured her ankle. My wife has to overcome many challenges in life now this. Surgery may be needed. Fort Arrival date 8/3.
1) What is the Forts cancellation policy is it three days?
2) Are our four days of Park passes lost?
3) can we cancel all ADRs with no loss?
Thank you again and hopefully we can replan our trip when DW mends:sad1:

Sorry about the injury! :grouphug:

If you cancel your ADRs today: no cost to you!

Your tickets are fine (not devalued at all) so long as nobody has used them for entry to any parks (I believe you are not currently using them.)

As far as the resort policy....Generally, if you buy a package, you need to cancel before 45 days prior to arrival to avoid penalty. Since you have a medical emergency situation, they may be kinder about it, and if you put off your trip instead of cancel, they may be even kinder!

IF it is a room only reservation, you can cancel 6 days before with no penalty.

Call and explain your medical emergency ASAP for the best outcome!

I wish you luck and a full, speedy recovery for your wife!...Please let us know how Disney responds! :flower3:

So sorry, talk to WDW ASAP. If it's room only you're ok.

Sorry to hear about your wife. Not knowing your wife or the extent of the injury, but I have had 2 friends have similar issues with less than 30 days before a WDW trip. They both went and had a great trip, albeit in a wheel chair or scooter.
A camping friend's wife shattered her ankle standing on a chair that was on a table trying to change a bulb in a ceiling fan. The visual is enough, but the way she tells it is even funnier. She was in a cast for the WDW trip and had surgery after they returned. She was wheel chair bound due to not being weight bearing.
My racing team mate blew up his knee playing golf 2 weeks before we were all going to WDW. Had surgery on it 12 days before our trip. The surgeon said his knee "exploded". A bit of an exaggeration, but we still tease him about a race car driver participating in such a high risk sport as golf so close to a big trip. :lmao:
He technically was allowed to put weight on his leg, but the surgery didn't go well and had to be redone 6 months after our trip. Never the less, he managed very well on Disney scooters. There was one day he couldn't get a scooter and he tried walking instead of getting a wheel chair. That lasted about an hour and the rest of the day a wheel chair worked out great.

One other unintended advantage was front of the line access for the group. We didn't even know about a GAC back then and we never asked for a privilege, but the CMs would see us in the queue lines and ask us to step out and take the handicap access.

Hopefully your wife is doing ok and a few accommodations might be able to save your trip.

so sorry about your wife's accident!! I am praying that surgery will not have to be done & your trip can occur!!

Thank you for all of the kind comments and prayers. Wife read all of them and was very interested in the wheelchair posts. (wheelchair powered by DH:) ). She is really looking forward to trip and is trying to see a doctor this week. Advised may be weeks before appointment can be obtained.
Wife called Disney and Fort. Advised 48 hour cancellation policy and Park tickets good indefinitely as long as not used. Keeping fingers crossed

Feel free to send me a PM. I'm also an RN with a long emergency and ICU background. Not that I'd tell you anything that your MD won't.

If you do try the wheelchair/scooter route, I'd suggest renting one from an outside company. Disney has both wheelchairs and scooters at all the parks, but availability can be an issue if you don't get there early. That's what happened to my team mate when we went to MK. They are also expensive at WDW compared to an off site supplier.

Wife has an appointment with foot doctor today. Will determine if she needs surgery. We still are planning to do our anniversary trip to the Fort at this time but also starting to look at alternate dates. My wife actually is a retired school nurse and teacher. Her sister works in the neonatal care department (she takes care of premature babies and ones with medical problems) We do not appreciate our nurses enough! God Bless you all. Wife broke elbow last year on the same arm she had rotator cuff surgery on twice. I am her own little self trained nurse's aid. She is really looking forward to this trip! So if it makes her feel better we will go. Again thank you for your kindness.

Please keep us updated on your wife. Hoping you hear good news from the dr. Don't let her overdo it. Disney will always be there. She needs this time to recover and heal. I'm sure I'd be the same way though - I'd still want to go too. Good luck!

So sorry about your wife! Hope she gets well soon and you can plan your trip. Hopefully , It will still give you something to look forward to, just at a later time.

As a nurse of 15 years and now a nurse practitioner, I appreciate your comment. Hope your wife gets good news.

Saw a foot specialist. DW needs no surgery! Doctor referred to it as a dancer's fracture! He said all she has to do is wear a boot. So looks like We are GOING TO DISNEY! Her text to me after the Doctor's appointment read "Disney here we come!" Taking a wheelchair with us along with a Doctor's note to authenticate usage of it. Thank you again for all of your kind comments and prayers

Cool!

Glad for the news. Sorry about fracture, cast boot, and wheelchair. Look at it like this: you will have a "different" experience at Disney.
