Anyone ready for the new 007?

There was only one person that portrayed James Bond that I really enjoyed, that was Sean Connery. I can't say I've seen any of the ones after Roger Moore, or at least none of the left a lasting memory.

I have no issue with them doing this. I don't know that it will do well though in the US. Some guys are going to be put out and I don't know that enough women are into 007 to make them go to the theater. I guess, I mean sometimes me and my husband snuggle upon the couch to watch James Bond and take a nap (it's me, I am taking the nap)

Why do they have to spoil every thing Bond is a man. This will be as bad as the crapper 2016 Ghostbusters. Make a new film franchise don't ruin this one
I liked Ghostbusters :confused3

This Bond thing is a continuation, not a remake.

She's not Bond. Daniel Craig is still in the movie as James Bond.

No matter how well or poor the film does there will be those who complain that she is not Bond or that she destroyed the franchise.

I think it's time for a woman to step into the role. Women are strong, can be agents, and fight the bad guys while solving crimes. Women can also be named James.

Personally I'm not a fan of James Bond movies, but I don;t see it as destroying the franchise, but rather expanding it. Oh, and bring on the good looking scantly clothed Bond Boys. :P

Correct he is. But no longer as 007. Bond has always been 007, that's my gripe with the whole thing. She can be any 00 agent except 007, because well everyone recognizes 007 as James Bond.

To be clear here, they have not announced that they are making a movie where this actress will play 007, they have only announced that in the story line for the next movie, James Bond (as played by Daniel Craig) is retiring and the designation of Agent 007 will go to this new character. Now, I think that the goal here is to continue with the new character, but that is not a reality at this point. They could very well recast and reboot with the next one and have a new James Bond. This is unknown at this time.

Personally, I haven't liked Bond movies in years. They take themselves too seriously these days. Personally, I think they should go back and set it in the 1960's and make a very stylish period piece out of it. Bond in that time frame just works better.

I think of James Bond as more of a comic book character where they are free to do a retcon all the the time. He was formely Royal Navy Reserves when now he's a former Special Boat Service officer.

But yeah they've imbued him with character traits more out of the 1950s and 1960s even though he's dealing with an era where sexual harrassment and those vices he always liked aren't looked on as acceptable. The Cold War is over, so they had to find different enemies or at least different motivations for enemies looking to pit the West against the Soviet Bloc.

I rather like that they're looking to refresh the franchise all the time. It was getting stale in the 80s.

That was my first thought. The way they're doing it makes perfect sense - 007 is, after all, a job title, that wouldn't just vanish if Bond retired or died - but I'm not sure who the target audience is and if it is big enough to make the film a success. I've always thought of the Bond movies as a "man's man" franchise, especially the older titles (which are sometimes cringe-worthy from a female perspective) and I'm not sure the fan base is going to be up for this.

In Casino Royale James Bond earned his 00 status and was given the number 7 as it was the next up. It makes perfect sense for that number to be reissued on his retirement. As someone who comes from a long line of female Bond fans I'm looking forward to this movie and to see where this takes us in a franchise that has been updated several times already.

PC or not, I like the old Roger Moore movies. I don't need the silly Bond girl stuff but I love a playful Bond.

Yeah. I think Connery was the best Bond for sure, but Roger Moore got the better, well, at least the more fun, movies to be in. Some of them are rather silly, but they are great! If you want to know exactly how I feel about current Bond movies, watch Kingsman: The Secret Service and follow Sam Jackson's conversation with Colin Firth.

I have a feeling the new movie will be a bust because they are not looking at who their main audience is - white, middle aged males

What they are trying to do is expand the audience though. It may not work, and usually doesn't, but that's what they think. That said, they have not announced that they are making a movie without "James Bond" the person. This one will still have Daniel Craig as Bond and he will be retiring and passing the 007 designation to the new female agent. This is Craig's last film, and there is no indication as to if the next movie will continue this or just restart with new actors.

Probably depends on how well this movie does. If audiences take to the new 007 they will probably make at least one movie staring her. If the numbers aren’t there they will just start again with a new bond.

I kind of hope it does well since I am really sick of all the remakes Hollywood is churning out.

Daniel Craig was never James Bond to me, either. He was more of the Russian spy who fought Bond. I'd like Idris Elba more as James Bond.
