Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

Smashburger is my new favorite. It's Colorado based so not sure how far its grown yet.

Yum!

My parents took us to a smashburger in San Jose the weekend we jet settled up there for the Pixar tour. It was good and I'd eat there again, but not sure I'd rate it above Fatburger or in-n-out. We have a new place called The Habit which deserves another go around. IMHO.

Thanks so much PIO, what a wonderful trip report. Even though you knew I was reading, I was a lurker. :lmao:

We have Smashburger. Its good but In N out still reigns king!

Thanks for persevering PIO - your TR are always so entertaining, fascinating and beautiful. Love your highlights reel - so many great pics. Wish we'd known about the guitar shop before our last Hollywood visit - looks amazing. Also pleased to see that LAX looks like its on the improve - it could only go one way - up, it was so bad! Have a great mad dash to SoCal - I will probably catch the TR on the other side!

Thanks Wendy. Safe travels to you!

Thank you so much for sharing your trip with me.
You helped me get through 6 moths of staying up all night waiting for foals to be born. You also helped me get and stay excited about my 40th birthday trip to WDW that I just came back from with my DH. I have immensely enjoyed all of your pictures and viewing places I have never been and may never get to.
I will truly miss seeing the alerts in my e-mail box saying that there is a new post waiting for me to view.:sad1:
Thank you again for writing this and sharing it with everyone. :thumbsup2

Thanks for reading along. Glad the TR helped you through some late nights. Hope you enjoyed your 40th Birthday (Happy Belated Birthday!).

I have yet to experience a Smashburger. I hope to get to try it one of these trips.

We have one in Elk Grove CA. I haven't tried it yet.

Next time I'm in NorCal, maybe we can make a DisMeet out of it. :thumbsup2

They have them in Vegas too.

Kim...I KNOW we're destined to DisMeet one of these trip. I just know it.

Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous adventure. You guys did and saw tons of amazing things. Have you chosen which picture(s) gets framed from this trip?

Pam - I had a calendar made for 2014 and I gave a few away as Christmas gifts to family and friends. A number of the pictures in the recap made it into the calendar. I really need to get some of those printed and framed for my mug's wall.

I had a trip that took almost a year to write, it's amazing isn't it? Kind of cool but kind of sad once you actually get to the end. 28 days though, simply epic.

The dessert pictures are just stunning

Thanks! Yes. It is sad to get to the end of this TR.

That is quite the guitar center, certainly ours are not like that!

I've never seen a guitar centre like that one either. I think we've visited at least 6 others around California.

I have been quite guilty of reading and not posting. Life seems to have gotten away from me these days and I need to get my arms back around it. I am here, enjoying your reports but far less active than I would like. I hope to change that. What an amazing trip and journey, thank you so much for letting me tag along even a little bit, even if I did arrive quite late.

Thanks for reading along!

Ooh, mad dashes, I like those!

On my way over now.

:thumbsup2

We have Smashburger here too. It's good but nothing beats In n Out to me.

In n Out.....yes. I need a re-do of one of those too.

Yeah, nothing beats In-N-Out but I don't have that option here. :)

Okay. I might make it a mission to get to an In N Out for some food porn specially for you. ;)

I think I'm going to be eating a few burgers on the Mad Dash trip. I don't think there is going to be enough meals in Long Beach. :rolleyes1

I knew you were lurking. :thumbsup2

Glad you enjoyed it.

In N Out seems to be the winner here.

I don't eat burgers but the fries at Five Guys are the best to me popcorn::

Five Guys? I've heard they are good. Yet something else I'm going to have to put on that to-do bucket list.

There is no smashburger within a pretty reasonable distance of Long Beach, so you're safe there, but there are a few between here and San Diego. There is an In-and-Out and a Five Guys within a few blocks down PCH from our house. It's definitely more than a few blocks from our house out to PCH, but both are really close via car. The Habit is a bit farther, but I could not eat burgers for the next week so that I'm in the mood for one during your stay. Also, my hair appt. is Friday around lunchtime. It is right near where the In-and-Out and Five Guys are located. Right next to my Hair Salon is a couple vegetarian places your DH would really like. It's all in that same shopping center where we had lunch last year, well not the In-and-Out or Five Guys, but they are both across PCH or Second Street from where we were last year.

My DS15 would be in music HEAVEN at that Guitar Center!!! We have one in our neck of the woods but of course nothing like that one! Love the wrap-up pics.....you really did have a marvelous trek across this country. :thumbsup2

.

I wouldn't even look at Smashburger or 5 Guys if there was an In-N-Out anywhere within driving distance!

We need to set up a spreadsheet online someplace where everyone can plug in their travel dates for the next few year so we can set up one giant Dis meet! There are so many people that I want to meet in 3D!!!!

I love the spreadsheet idea. I mentioned it a while back but then thought maybe I'd have to create it. :lmao: I'm no good with that sort of stuff. ;) But it's a good idea.

Sorry for delay been on vacation myself :-)

Oh those fat chips at food court look good. In England we favour our fat chips! Raglan road had good fat chips according to Jo and Pam :-)

Oh my that guitar store. I would have been pig in mud also. Before my arthritis took hold I very much enjoyed playing the guitar and writing music. I love guitar stores! Nashville had some great stores DH would love that if you haven't been :-)

Lovely closing photos :-) thank you for sharing.

When we had our big DIS meet that PIO covered in this report we had a thread on the community board for everone interested. She did a good job of keeping the first post updated when we finalized decisions. I'm not familiar with online docs, but what would we call our "group"?

Hmmmm, how about the Friends of Olga? ;)

I thought this was cute.

I'm reluctant to use her name, her time is so finite. Maybe is should post some pictures of her on the house thread. She has lost quite a bit of weight. However she is still spunky. I just dont know how much time she has left.

Thank you PIO.

It's a Wrap!

It's been nearly a year since I started writing this TR. When I originally started, I had no idea how long it would take me to get to this final point. If I knew, I think I may not have started at all. But start it I did and I've now gotten to the end.
During the last year, I've had the pleasure of reliving this trip through the words and the pictures that I took. More than anything else, it has been a past time that I've been able to escape into and suspend real life for a few hours each week.

The memories of this trip that will carry me through the rest of life are the 3D friendships that have formed on the Dis and solidified through the DisMeets.

I will also remember the sunsets and sunrises, the richness of the deserts, the warmth of the sunlight, of being outdoors.

And above all else, Disney.

Sitting here in the comfort of my living room, I do not know who is out there reading. And if you don't post a comment, I don't even know if you are enjoying it or not. My only measure is that ubiquitous "Views" number that indicates.....perhaps….there could be a few of you reading this.

Irrespective of whether you've been a 2D friend in a box through this TR or a lurker. The best thing about writing a TR for me is that I have the privilege of sharing my trip with you all. And it is a privilege; most definitely a privilege. I thank you all for reading and sharing in the fun with me.

Post Script

For those of you wondering what I'm going to be doing with all my spare time now, I do have a cunning substitute.

I periodically make a Mad Dash over to SoCal and will be making one of Mad Dashes in about a week or so. If you want to follow along....another TR....the link is here.

This one will be 9 days and will involve a lot of family, friends and shopping. One thing is certain. Have camera will snap. Have snaps, will share. Especially on the Dis. Hope to see you there!

Hey Princess! I don't know if you remember me, we met in the world in 2010 at a Cinco de Mayo meet.

I found your TR not too long ago because I don't dis as much as I used to. So far I have enjoyed your DL visit (I finally got there myself this past June) and have just read about your arrival in Sedona. I lived in Flagstaff for awhile almost 20 years ago and just love that part of the country. We are headed in that direction next summer and I was thinking we would skip Sedona because of time but your pictures make me want to go back so bad!

Can't wait to keep reading!

I know that this TR is pretty much wrapped up, but this morning while perusing the DIS from my phone, I accidentally unsubscribed myself from it. While there are probably no major revelations to come, I certainly don't want to miss out on anything.

You did catch a beautiful sunrise!

Woah congrats on 90,000! You're well on your way to 100,000. Do you know who has the most posts on the DIS? You've got to be up there.

This was such an amazing report, I can't believe it's all over. Definitely will be one of the most memorable TR's i've read. Thanks for bringing us along with you.

Now off to subscribe to your current TR!
