We stayed at the Anabella Hotel, right across the street from California Adventure, a few years back during the first D 23 convention and had a great experience. We might as well have been staying at the DL resort itself.
This time, over Spring break however, the Anabella experience was not so positive. The front desk staff, as well as the rest of the staff were all friendly enough, but when we got to our room, we were greeted by the friendly maintenance guy, who was there testing out the drain on the bath tub. The same tub which had rust around the plumbing fixtures and black mold and stains in and around it.
Our dark, yet noisy, stuffy, yet sparsely appointed, room had "the smell" of generations of strangers, with various hygienic practices, inhabiting it for decades. it was a cracker box, apparently constructed with storing bulk people in mind. My wife, at least, is not a bulk person and deserved better. There was also a great view of a parking lot with trash blowing about the lady sitting on the curb next to our room smoking a cigarette. It felt good knowing she was keeping a close eye on our car.
There was no microwave in the room. The first two nights, there was no shampoo or conditioner provided.
We endured it, because it was only $100 per night, and the location is great. However, next time we will either use our DVC points, or pay twice as much not to stay at the Anabella.
We filled out the feedback card, and gave them online feedback as well, and never heard a word back. That is truly not a Disney-worthy customer service experience.
