I still can't help but be unimpressed. I thought this article brought up some salient points. Galaxy's Edge Underperforming
"The new movies pretty much suck."

Well, that is surely an unbiased and well thought-out article. :P

As far as the interaction with cast members, granted I haven't been since the AP preview but they seemed mostly in character while I was there. And they seemed to know when to push the immersion and when I just wanted to check out or whatever.

This is something I noticed as well, the cast members did a good job of staying in character for Star Wars stuff, but it wasn't completely Star Wars to the point that it felt weird or in your face.

Have you been or just making a judgement off pics and video. I have not seen one person that has been there that has not been blown away. Some are not 100% in on MFSR but still enjoyed it. If the rumors of the Rise of the Resistance are true, that ride will be far and away the most technologically advanced and immersive experience in any theme park.
Yes, Rise of the Resistance looks like it will be simply amazing!!!

It is not just SWGE but Disney parks in general!

The haters are too quick to blame GE and in reality Disney parks are down 3% overall, I say it is because of the HUGE price increases throughout Disney, tickets (AP also were hit hard), resort rooms, food, parking fees, tips for everything, man it can add up QUICK!

So NO IMHO SWGE is not under performing rather Disney Parks as a whole entity.........

We’ve found most of the cm to be in character. They don't walk around spouting out SW language but if you ask them a question and they’re not busy they will engage with you. So far I’ve asked about the suns and why the first order is there. Oga’s was very immersive- just lots of comments to really draw you in.
I had some great interactions this past Saturday - I brought my shoulder banshee from Pandora along and that became an instant talking point, because it was clearly an unknown species on Batuu. I got curious or puzzled inquiries as to what she was and what her name was from several of the merch and food service CMs as I walked around. The very best was the photopass CMs, though (they called the photo a holo... something. I don't remember off hand.) Anyway, there were three of them together and they were very in character, getting startled at the sight of my banshee and acting suspicious and afraid of her, acting cautious and frightened while scanning my magic band, etc. I played along and had the banshee "bite" my finger and they "freaked out" even more. It was a really great interaction and they had me laughing the whole time!

Our first visit to Galaxy's Edge was this morning. I kid you not, I walked through the entrance to the land and immediately started crying. I know this place does not exist in any of these Star Wars movies up to now, but the architecture and the design instantly brought me right into the Star Wars Universe. The place fits in seamlessly and I could spend an entire day just exploring the land and interacting with the cast members who 'live' there.

It was perfect. My only criticism, was that it was so awesome, I kind of wish they made an entire theme park out of it.

I just don't get that special feeling like when I walk into Pandora. Can't exactly explain it.
So, I went to the parks today and cut through SWGE to get from Fantasyland to Haunted Mansion. I passed a family who was standing there, and mom was surveying the land, hands on her hips. She said, quite loudly "I'm just not impressed." Dad said, "No?" Mom said, "No, I mean, it LOOKS great, but it's SO boring."

Made me think of this thread. This whole family was all decked out in SW shirts, too...

Under what criteria do you use to say it's underperforming?
I didn't read the article, but to me, the answer to your question is whether SWGE meets the revenue and attendance benchmarks that Disney itself expected when it made its investment. Of course, we don't have access to that information, but there are other indicators. For example, the Boarding Group system. No one will EVER convince me that Disney built that system expecting it to needed for 8 hours on opening day and never again. Iger also made some interesting comments on the last shareholder call and in an interview, essentially defending the low attendance by saying that that's just what the execs intended (really?) and that everyone was scared away by fear of high crowds. As the parks continue to develop, however that goes, you can get a good sense of how the boardroom is feeling based on the shareholder communications.

No Jawas, no sand people, no Cantina band, no Tatooine? ..Disney went cheap ( generic Cola instead of Coke) because it has to pay George 25% to use the original characters. I don’t buy the “make your own experience” it’s marketing spin for Mom wouldn’t spend the extra money to get real Coke!

There are real Coca Cola products, in funky bottles. I would’ve preferred the Universal Harry Potter approach- beverages that would actually exist. Coca Cola wouls not exist in a far away galaxy a long time ago. Jawas and Tusken Raiders would be neat but they’re from Tatooine, yes? Wouldn’t make sense to have them on Batuu. The lack of non-humans is understandable but takes away a bit from the being immersed. The few animatronic aliens are neat but wven just a few shop/wandering CM as aliens would go a long way. Maybe they went into hiding when the First Order showed up.

They don't have to pay George Lucas a penny more for ANYTHING Star Wars related. They purchased rights to the full IP. Everything. That is just a completely unsubstantiated rumor.

Even two cool-looking classic SW aliens walking around would add SO much to the feel of the place. TWO.

    Make it happen, Disney!

Thought just came into my head reading this thread, kinda reminds me of the stories you hear about American tourists in Europe. Those who complain that Venice, Italy is dirty and smelly and everyone speaks Italian and the food is terrible and that they much prefer The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. At Venetian Resort in Las Vegas everyone speaks English and they love the food and its clean!

Not sure why you would doubt that being what they intended. People have stayed away for fear of crowds; just look at how many people here said they're not coming until 2020 out of fear. Perhaps Disney does indeed know what they're doing, and there being low crowds was designed, so that way people weren't out the door just trying to get into the park. There's just no reason for anyone to say the park is underperforming.

But anyways, moderators should probably close this down, this topic isn't getting anywhere constructive.

Closing it down will only prompt for someone else to open a new thread and discuss this all over again.
I don't mind people giving their views but seriously at this point the discussion has gone in endless circles, no one knows what Disney execs are thinking or planning right now so it's all conjectures and guessing.
Of course there are people who complain about the parks being so crowded and now the same people wonder why is it so slow.

I think like a lot of things it depends what you are looking for ... if you are looking for rides and activities, yeah, there is only so much to do. If you want to wander the land, and use the decoder app, interact with CMs, etc. then there is a ton to spend time on

Just like how some people feel there is nothing to do in World Showcase or Animal Kingdom is a 1/2 day park and for others those are their favorite and can spend multiple days in each

I do think for the start, it does feel like to get the *full* epxerience you have to be willing to drop some $ on droids and lightsabers and stuff which is a bit of a detractor
