Advice on service dogs ... what to do?

Requirements are probably similar, but i recommend also checking what is needed to take the dog back into Canada. Just in case something else may be needed on your return trip.

Enjoy your vacation!

You definitely need to notify the airline that you are bringing the dog. There are only certain seats that the animal is allowed to occupy. Do not purchase your airline tickets on line. Call. So they can assign at time of booking your seats and make all notations.
OP will be flying Southwest. Southwest doesn't assign seats. OP should get to the gate early enough for preloading.

Make sure you bring a travel water bowl. Some collapse and others fold.
PP are right, crossing the border should be researched.

It will be easier for you if your dog wears a service dog vest, especially one with mesh inserts. We got ours on Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/Plutus-Pet-R...5616&sprefix=service+dog,aps,140&sr=8-32&th=1
We also carry a cooling towel to place under the vest and refresh the towel with cool water several times a day.
The Mushers Secret works great. Remember to put it on the dog each day. It is very soothing on the paws. Check the dogs paws several times a day to make sure there is no wear and tear on them. Some dog paws can burn easily, especially if they don't have callused pads.
We also take every opportunity to go into air conditioning to give everyone a break from the heat.
Don't forget a travel bowl for water and some dog snacks. Pups get hungry and thirsty, too!
