I’ll take you through my planning process/experiences, the trip itself, all the way to the post disney trip depression...

About me (and my BF) I got the nickname Sunshine from a fellow DISer and it stuck. I have stayed at a few of the resorts on property, some deluxe, some moderate however this is my first time staying at AKL and my very first CLUB LEVEL stay.

My BF and I are what people call "Park Commandos", we always get to the parks before rope drop and when we come to WDW for Star Wars Weekends (SWW) we even are crazy enough to get in line for celebrity autographs at 3 - 4 am in the weeee hours of the morning. So with our types of schedules we never thought club level would be worth our money, however since we are staying for 12 days / 11 nights we figured this would be the trip to try it and see.

In addition we are members of the 501st, the crazy world wide Star Wars costuming group that volunteers to march in the SWW Disney Parades at Disney Hollywood Studios (DHS). This year will be our 1st time marching in the SWW Disney Parades and we are very excited about that as well. So when I call this my bucket list trip report I am check off a lot of cool stuff on that list!

Making the Room Only Reservations I was so excited and so nervous about making sure we got the room we wanted that I didn't even wait until packages were available, I found out from a fellow DISer that I could call and make a room reservation then switch it over to a package when those came available. I booked just a room reservation for a Standard AKL Club Level room (which comes with a savanna view) in June of 2014 for the end of May 2015. WARNING for anyone that does this the sticker price is a shocker! And they required first night’s deposit and the deposit doesn't transfer to the new reservation when it becomes a package, you do however get it refunded. The CM I spoke with on the phone while making this reservations was so nice, and was very very adamant about telling me to call back and switch this reservation to a package, and keep checking for discounts to lower this rate. I mean this CM was awesome about it, joked with him for a while, it was a magical phone call.

Switching to a Package By July I was on pins and needles waiting for the packages to open up, finally July 30th 2014 they did! I canceled my original Room Only Reservation and rebooked as a package deal - 12 days/ 11 nights end of May 2015 AKL Standard Club Level Room with two 10 Day Park Hoppers and Memory Maker included! I put a new deposit in place for the new reservation and they refunded me the original deposit (took 3 business days to process).

AKL IPO Staff Rough start - I received my planning packet and for the first time in my life instead of making my own ressies I was going to let someone do it it for me. I filled out the packet to the best of my ability, even put in for two safaris only offered to club level guests. I emailed my packet in to the IPO and then two days later I get another email telling me “As soon as you are able to submit your dining requests to us we will go ahead and add them to your travel plan. We are booking for May 3rd today, so your booking dates are coming up fast.” HOLY SMOKES, What happened to the original package I submitted?! Luckily I had saved it and resent it with a message letting them know it was the second time I sent it in. In addition I had already gotten emails back from one of the IPO staff who has been working the originally submitted packet. At this point I was begging people on the DISboards to please tell me what about CL is better than a non CL deluxe room, because at this time I was not impressed and wasn’t feeling my extra money spent on the CL was worth it.

It took a while but in the end I had a IPO Staff team lead/manager emailing, apologizing for the confusion. We had a few frank email conversations back and forth and I told him from this point forward if there was a sensitive reservation (like the SWW character meals) I would be making them myself, however as a courtesy I would email the IPO staff to let them know I had done so. At that time he admitted those types of events are normally known to the guests before IPO staff hears about them…. power of the web I am sure…. however this still shocked the hell out of me, I truly thought as my travel guides they would know what Disney has to offer and be able to make suggestions. When they became available I did end up making my own SWW character meal reservations, and sent the courteous emailed to the IPO office letting them know I had done so and when they were so they could have it straight in their records as well.

Discount Time Disney announced their spring discount rates and boy was I happy because this time they even included club level rooms, something they don’t always do I noted over the years of watching the discounts. I called to have them discount applied to my existing package reservations. The CM applied the discount and when the numbers came in she spoke out, you’re gonna love me... I was ecstatic and the discount saved nearly 1,700 dollars on the trip! Magical phone call number two!

Change of Plan Originally we had planned to drive our own vehicle down due to trying to tote costumes and gear for the parade, however what costumes we are to wear for this event changed and we no longer need to drive, so we are flying and getting a rental car. We made our flight reservations and will arrive at MCO at 7:40 am! Even with picking up our own luggage, picking up the rental car and the half hour drive to the resort we figure we will be at AKL around 9:30 in the morning… Originally we were not going to arrive until after noon. We also have our first safari and dinner at Jinkos booked 3 pm that afternoon. Very excited about the early arrival and hoping to be able to enjoy the resort even if we can’t get into our rooms until later. Time to email the IPO Staff and let them know of the travel and schedule change.

Reply from the IPO Staff was just what I hoped for… “We strive to meet each of our Kilimanjaro Club Guests immediately upon arrival between 9 am and 8 PM. When you arrive, identify yourself to any Cast Member. A Concierge Host or Hostess will escort you to the Kilimanjaro Club reception desk to check in. If you arrive outside the hours of 9 AM to 8 PM, please proceed to the Front Desk where our Front Desk Cast Members will be happy to assist you with check in.”

I have read on the boards that some DISers have found this is not always the case at club level resorts, in fact the variance is astounding to me. Anyhow, since they just put it in writing I am going to be a stinker and hold them to it. I’ll be sure to let everyone know how that goes. We are arriving after 9 am so we should be all set to get the normal greeting from the Concierge host/hostess.

Just made my final payment on my trip! I am going to DISNEY WORLD PEOPLE no turning back... now waiting 104 days until it's time to go is going to be tough...

But there is still plenty to plan ahead, this is a Disney's Star Wars Weekend event trip and there are so many things that haven't been announced, and last year there were cool new things to do that take reservation!

Been watching my my favorite thread on the DISbords "Official Star Wars Weekends Thread Tips and Tricks 2015" and there is now way I would try and plan this type of trip without it!

All paid off with 3 and a half months to spare, very cool!!! I loved CL at AKL especially the night time offerings (Tusker beer anyone) I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Part 2

SWW Events and Special Meals: On the “Star Wars Weekends Tips and Tricks 2015" Thread (http://www.disboards.com/threads/official-star-wars-weekends-thread-tips-and-tricks-2015.3324422/) people have been chatting it up wondering when the special events and meals would be anounces. First in December came the SW meals “Star Wars Dine-In Galactic Breakfast! at Sci-Fi” and “Jedi Mickey's Star Wars Dine at Hollywood and Vine” I quickly booked both meals, H&V Dinner for the first weekend, and Sci-Fi Breakfast for the second.

Then the announcements from Disney were completely non existent… and those on the SWW tips and tricks thread have been biting their nails waiting for any news at all to be announced… finally at the beginning of March it happened. Galactic Gatherings, this years version of Rebel Rendezvous, was finally announced! And now the debate began…. should we spend the $250 a person and take the plunge this year!? http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...-2015-at-disneys-hollywood-studios-on-may-14/

Why are we debating, beyond the cost?

  1. The event is scheduled for May 14th at 10 am, the day we arrive. We arrive in sunny Florida at 7:40 AM that morning....

  2. We also didn’t know if our Magic Bands would be active or if we would have to go to the resort first.

  3. We also didn’t know if this was a structured event, and would have to stay for the 5 hours and be on time.

  4. We have the Club Level only Wanyama Safari and Jiko Dinner that late afternoon, which starts at 3:15!

After chatting with other Dissers and the AKL IPO staff we figured out as long as we check in online the mailed to us Magic Bands should be active. In addition we also found out that IF they run things as they did last year it is a come and go as you please event.

So we took the plunge, and now have the craziest first day schedule, rather than the relaxing pace I originally planned. We are after all “Commandos” so I guess we are hitting the ground running!

We also found out that if it is like last year we might even wanna get there later rather than early just because the line up for check in to this event is crazy and since we are not really there for a lot of the Limited Edition (LE) merchandise - and we have already pre-ordered our 3 extra Light Saber Magic Bands each - we can probably show up a little late and be ok, maybe some of the crazy LE lines will be down too...

The Crazy Day of Arrival Schedule: Thursday - May 14th arrive in sunny Florida at 7:40 AM, collect all our things, get a rental car…

Plan A: if things are going smoothly we will go to AKL and check in first, then head over to DHS and the Galactic Gatherings (GG) Event (our goal is to be at GG event no later than 11 am).

Plan B: If our flight is late, or we take too much time at the airport we will run straight to DHS and GG event, hoping the magic bands don’t give us any issues!

We have to leave the GG Event no later than 1:30 - 2:00 PM TOPS! Run back to our resort, check-in and/or finish check-in. Check out our room and that our bags are as they should be.

At 3:15 check in for our Wanyama (CL only) Safari and have dinner at Jiko’s after… then :faint::faint::faint: ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Can you hear the jeopardy timer music.... still waiting for SWW celebrities, SWW show announcements and SWW Dessert Party announcement..... Pins and Needles doesn't even describe it!

At least in the mean time I have started my second trip report "Sunshine's California Trip (Disney Parks & Star Wars Celebration) Report" http://www.disboards.com/threads/su...-disney-star-wars-celebration-report.3393055/

My California trip is in 20 days... and will help me pass the time :)

Part 3

Lots of planning has happened since my last entry to this trip report.

For me a HUGE thing that happened is that our applications to march in the SW Disney Parades with the 501st were approved. When we planned to do this originally we were only going to march one day out of the trip HOWEVER in a moment of panic I thought my luck would have it on the day we were to march it would rain and I wouldn't get to march… so we signed up for two parades first weekend Saturday May 16th and second weekend Friday May 23rd. *cart wheel, literally flipping out inside all the time excited about this, it’s really a dream come true for me to March for the Mouse*

In addition Disney not only announced some special package… A VIP package plus a Feel the Force Premium and Deluxe package… then add to it this past Friday they announced the Celebrity Guest List… All I can say is, IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!

My BF and I don’t like the VIP package, we don’t like the restaurants they force you into for breakfast and lunch…. HOWEVER when the DELUXE Feel the Force package was put in as an option we loved it. Kinda has the VIP perks without the meals, which we are booking SW meals anyway and would rather eat at other locations too.

Check out the official list of differences here https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/hollywood-studios/feel-the-force-premium-packages/

So I spoiled us… for weekend one Friday May 15th I bought us the regular FtF Premium package, we only wanted to see Stars of the Saga show anyway, and will hopefully use our one premium ticket for that (just in case we have a FP for that show already and will release it IF we get the show we want upon checking to the FtF package). For weekend two however I bought us the FtF Deluxe package where as you get into all the shows with it, we are going to have to skip the last one to at least still make it to our dinner reservation at the Brown Derby and still have enough room for deserts and drinks at the fireworks! I plan to divulge a full description of the differences in my trip report.

We have our FP+ laid out and filled in our food plans as well, now that everything has been announced, at least we believe everything has been announced, and our march dates scheduled we believe we have a solid plan.

**side note, I am one week out from my California trip I spoke of earlier in this thread.

To be continued…

Part 4

(Non-Disney related announcement, the Wednesday before we left for California my BF became my Fiancé… so my planning mode is on over drive!)

We have been back from California for a little over a week now and boy what a trip! I will have to say that resort pricing at WDW is so much more reasonable that at LAND. However, I have never seen shorter lines for rides in my life which was a good thing because we need the break from long lines at the convention and LAND provided the fun we need after a busy day at the convention. After waiting in SWC line for 4 hour line just to pay for merchandise I will never complain about WDW lines again!

We are 15 days from landing in sunny Orlando and I have been tweaking our schedule like a mad woman since we got back from California. Here’s the Crazy Line-Up!

*Note to Part 4

They are Booking for the Rebel Hanger located at Backlot Express but only by phone! Be persistent, and insist they check, lot of the CMs still believe that it is walk up only!

FYI - I was able to make Boathouse reservations a few months ago. They use Open Table.

Thank for a the tip... right We are checking that out.... we see it listed, tried to make a reservation through that but it's not working... we'll keep an eye out, thank you!

Now if only I can sleep tonight!

Wicked awesome nails! Have several Star wars inspired nails on my pinterest that I may try. Did our nails before Disney last year (I had mickey nails, my Oldest DDhad Mickey fingers and dalmation toes, Middle DD had minions fingers and toes)

Hello folks we I am finally able to check in. We had a heck of a crazy day yesterday day, ended with a headache that knocked me out so very sick last night but I was able to wake up early and get Tyre Sircra CFP for autographs.

I tired to post pictures this morning for and it wasn't working :( I'll try again later!

Anyhow here's what's happened so far.

We flew in on time checked in quick and grabbed a quick snack before heading over to the Galactic Galaxy SWW merch event.

Warning the adult beverages were sick sweet, drink with caution and a bottle of water BUT if you want a glowing Millennium Falcon you have to get a good guys drink just once, they are super cool!

We were also allowed to have Ashley Eckstein sign our event poster, total win!

The lightsaber magic bands light some of the podiums red and make the lightsaber sound!

The room at AKL Club Level was ready by the time we were done and we ended up in room 4429, bunkers and a queen, which cracked up a couple with out kids, but we are using it for our costuming gear and merch so it's working.

Special thanks to @TigrLvsPooh for the tips on check for club level items cause they totally missed the tubes which we called the front desk and hot immediately.

The Wanyama Safari was awesome, they server dinner family style at Jikos after and tasting several goodies is awesome!

Unfortunately lack of hydration and wine kicked my rear and I quickly showered after and died.

This morning we were out of the room by 5 am and got a rare look at the lobby of Jambo House with everyone in bed.

We got to the park and panicked there was a line nearly to the boat dock! But that was for Amy, this event is all the Rebels ladies, and we got Tyre no problem...
