Just returned from Shanghai: observations about SDL

I was at SDL in both the spring and summer of 2016. I experienced heavy crowds both times. I agree with most of your experiences. Except I didn't think much of the Soaring standby line and I thought the entire Crystal Grotto ride was a waste of time, not just the end (it might be better at...

Mine train at shanghai vs Orlando

The one in Orlando is in English. Unless Mandarin is your first language, that alone is a big improvement. As far as the ride itself, they are similar gentle roller coaster rides. I think the SDL version was a little longer.

Some tips for those of you headed to Shanghai

Been to SDL twice. Last time was a year ago. Some of my replies to the article: 1. Pirates of Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure does not have a fastpass. It DOES have an unmarked single rider line, and I recommend the single rider line. It won't save you any time, but it is far less...

Shanghai DL at capacity (late June '17)

Comments on your plan: I've been to SDL twice. Both times, the Pirates single rider line was only available in the morning. No FPs. I urge you to use the single rider line - the standby line can get stuffy. The Crystal Grotto ride is not worth it during the day. And there are better things to...

    Went to Shanghai Disney Today!

Zero chance of sandstorms. Shanghai has the same weather as Orlando. 1. Those who wear glasses should bring a glasses strap. On TRON, you will be forced to put your glasses in a container on your ride vehicle - and if your eyesight is bad enough, you will miss out on the full experience. OTOH...

    Went to Shanghai Disney Today!

I was there twice last year. I could have written the same report. Except the line for the FastPass moves a lot quicker than you think. When I was there, it doubled back all the way past the Soarin' entrance. But it was only a half hour wait, at most. And a FastPass for soarin' is worth the...

can you rate pollution in china and when you went.

As Shanghai is on the coast, it is entirely hit or miss day by day. I was told that the level of pollution in Shanghai is far better than what happens inland. The air pollution presumably depends on what direction and how fast the wind is blowing. You cannot get a correlation of pollution by...

    Any Shanghai Disney Tips?

I was there on two separate trips last year. Tip #1: The park is very big by area. There are no railroads to get from one side to the other. It is probably best to plan your visit to spend time on one side of the park before going to the other, otherwise you'll spend a lot of time walking. Tip...

    Drinking water at SDL

The drinking water dispensers are well labeled (in English). In the summer, there were lines to get water from these dispensers In general, you also need to be careful with ice in your drinks in China. However, the ice in the drinks in SDL is safe ( I had it with no ill effects at all)

Going to SDL in October - any advice

I was there August 6. I am returning to China and will probably go again on September 24. October is a good time to go. August was way too hot. Some random thoughts: 1. The Chinese park guests are nice, until they get in a line. It is common practice for one person in a group to get in a line...

Quick Shanghai DL trip on PVG layover

This was my first time returning to the USA from Shanghai, so I can only give you my one time experience of 45 minutes for a Saturday afternoon. I believe SDL opened at 8am that day and Disneytown opened at 10am. I considered doing a quick tour of SDL again. I chose not to because I had been...

    Which Asian park to choose??

I can only respond about Shanghai Disneyland (SDL). I was there August 6. Language is not a problem. Maybe 1 out of 3 speak passable English. All signs are in Mandarin and English. Attraction audio is only in Mandarin. I think SDL tried NOT to be like WDW: - no monorail - no railroad - really...

    1 meal in Shanghai Disneytown

I ate lunch at the Blue Frog in Disneytown on 9/3/2016. Had the Beef with Broccoli. Atmosphere: American. Pleasant. Service: Table Service. I sat at the bar. Had US Open tennis on the TV. Exactly what I was looking for. Very good Food: Too many onions, but otherwise flavorful. Served in a...

Quick Shanghai DL trip on PVG layover

I sort of did this on Saturday (Sept 3). I had a 3:55pm flight and wanted some SDL souvenirs. I went to SDL ON Aug 6 but didn't get any tee shirts for my kids. I arrived at the airport at 8am. Found out that the United counter didn't open until 9:10. Then I found out that they wouldn't take my...

    Crowd Culture in Shanghai Disneyland

Advantage: You can go in the single rider lines. The single rider lines are a lot more comfortable (not as packed together and no one will cut you to join their family). At Pirates, you have to ask for it, but it is way better than standby. At TRON the single rider line was twice the posted wait...

    Customs Question

I am in China now (for work) and went through Shanghai customs last Friday. You will go through customs in Shanghai. Wait in the line for foreigners (follow the direction of agents or follow other white/black people). Show your entry card (that you will get and fill out on the plane), passport...

    Advice on epic trip please!

SDL - 2 days for the park, maybe half a day for the shopping area. Throw away what you think you know about FPs...the FP machines are all located in one spot for each land and there are huge lines to get FPs. The FP strategy is different. SDL is hotter than Florida in August, so if you can go in...

Does Shanghai Disneyland Should have It's A Small World

SDL should have IASW. But it won't happen. Disney has sunk a pile of money into SDL and needs to recover costs. It is drawing large crowds without IASW. SDL is very much a Chinese park. I expected more Mulan-themed attractions in Fantasyland...this would come next, if anything. The SDL rides...

    Shanghai City to Disney Transportation

No way. The subway will take a little more than an hour from the Four Seasons Shanghai. The taxi might take two hours at the height of rush hour, but if you took a taxi it would be in the early AM or the late PM...so about an hour without the traffic

    Shanghai City to Disney Transportation

I was at SDL on August 6. I stayed at the Renaissance Yangtze, which is further away from SDL than the Four Seasons. The subway ride was a little more than an hour (took Line 10 from Yili Road to Line 11 to SDL). Taxi or subway are both ok. They are dirt cheap in Shanghai (subway = $1/pp each...
