I might have lost my mind....a Guinea pig for Christmas?

I was in your shoes once and I think I polled the DIS as well. My DD was so young, and so set on a guinea pig that we ended up getting her one for Christmas. It's not a course of action I'd recommend for everyone, but we're a rescue-type family, and DD at age 6 was a big part of it - we took...

    I think I got fired...is this right????

 Unless I read her wrong, they won't accommodate her condition, they schedule her for jobs other people get to avoid when pregnant, and she can't work if she doesn't do them. Then, there were problems after doing bending & lifting things that her doctor said several times that she...

    I think I got fired...is this right????

I'm not an HR manager, but I share an office with one, and it sounds to me like a workman's comp lawsuit now, the company having forced the issue. It also sounds like they figured that out for themselves and are now in CYA mode.

Obama helps makes Science popular again!

embryonic stem cell research. I kinda doubt your last statement, once people realize they'll be injected into everything from white mice to chimpanzees, but we'll see.

Loss of retirement money is upsetting.

I disagree, FWIW. My stocks, 401K and kids' college funds have tanked as well. I'm at least two decades from retirement, but I've owned stocks since 1975. (A gift for starting Kindergarten. My family's a little odd.) I don't have a lot though, and what I do have took a long time to...

Does anybody NOT like the taste of spring water?

You're tasting minerals. A little calcium, magnesium, sodium, maybe some iron, manganese, copper, zinc...yum. :) you can get a well disinfection kit to take care of the bacteria.

Obama Seeks $634 Billion for Health Care

ok, that's pretty much what I was talking about. (Obama's plan, not McCain's.) It's a budget, it sets the stage for health care reform, but it isn't reforming anything and doesn't claim to be. We've yet to begin that.

Obama Seeks $634 Billion for Health Care

That's not really what I asked for, which was a cite pertaining to McCain encouraging employers to drop coverage. I'll settle for an opinion as to why McCain's plan would have done so. Why do I care, because I'm pretty sure that taxing some health benefits is a given at this point, that Obama...

Obama Seeks $634 Billion for Health Care

I must have missed that. Does anyone have a cite for McCain's "idea of encouraging their employers to drop coverage"?

Obama Seeks $634 Billion for Health Care

you're right, my bad. I'll put it another way: McCain's plan would have resulted in a tax increase on higher-income, or better-compensated, employees. The accompanying tax credit would have offset the tax burden for a lot of people, and would have helped currently uninsured people to become...

Obama Seeks $634 Billion for Health Care

No, that was McCain's opponents' interpretation of McCain's plan, repeated ad nauseum. His actual plan involved offering more opportunities for individual coverage, gradually moving away from the status quo of employer-sponsored health care. This is the first I've heard of a real plan to tax...

Obama Seeks $634 Billion for Health Care

No matter who is in office, or when, we are going to have to allow for spending billions upon billions in health care costs in the near future. I disagree with Obama on just about everything, but here I don't see him having much of a choice.

    Presidential Address to Congress

I don't think the last President did, or the one before him. It may be that this one is perceived as aggressively soak-the-rich.

Times poll: 75% blame Bush’s policies for deterioriating economy

I think the poll director could have made an excellent case for increased hardship for many Americans, and/or rising public pessimism due to gas prices, or even dwindling support for Bush across America...but that's not the point of the article, it's: "75% blame Bush’s policies for...
