Traveling to Disneyland with powerchair questions.

Most people seem to Uber to Disneyland. AFAIK, all the transport companies from LAX that carried wheelchairs needing for-downs have gone out of business. I visited Knott’s in January and it was super easy to take public transit with my wheelchair. The same public bus that goes to Knott’s also...

    Recliner/Lift Rental

We’ve used two different companies and had major issues with both along with some positive experiences. It’s supposed to be allowed in the room early but we were having situations where the resort would turn the delivery man away and say we have to be there to meet them and often that would be...

Universal now requiring documentation be sent to a third party for accessibility

My home park is a Cedar Fair park and I’ve seen comments online by multiple people claiming their disability passes were torn up by employees this past summer because they didn’t look disabled enough. Cedar Fair is horrible with disability accommodations. Like dozens upon dozens of ADA...

    Minion Blast

UO has made accommodations at every other ride so I doubt this will be any different. Remember that most of their rides require being in a manual wheelchair with good postural control, etc. So not like WDW where anything goes.

    Amputee and Rides

I crutched around the parks with forearm crutches until eventually moving full-time to my wheelchair. You can still use any of the transfer devices and accessible features on any ride vehicle with crutches. I find transferring mostly easier now in my chair than on crutches. I often travelled...

    Offsite options that are walkable

Check out Motel 6 and Super 8. I think one or both are ok for under 21. I’ve stayed at both as a solo female and haven’t felt unsafe. There are others on I-Drive and the public bus (Lynx) has a route that goes to the CityWalk resort bus loop. First two hotels have a stop close by but are also...

    May hours shortened

OI Meetup happening around that time announced their private event was getting an extra hour exclusive to themselves. Closing early likely just means giving private events more private time and thus being able to charge more and/or keep guests happiest. Helps clear the queues out for private...

WC Accessible Shuttle\Taxi from John Wayne to DL?

Rideshares had put all three companies I had used or familiar with out of business not long before the pandemic. Haven’t been back to DL since. Horrible experiences with what we used so even if bad reviews, you probably won’t find better. Also, not all ART bus stops are wheelchair-accessible...

Universal Disability pass use during Early Entry?

Their disability pass is good during early admission, events like HHN, and private events. Works the same as regular hours. Hagrid’s during early admission has a highly inflated wait time…60-120+ minutes from the moment they open when the true wait is often 1/2 to 1/3 or even 1/4. You can...

    Transportation to Disneyland with powerchair

I haven’t been since the pandemic and the company I used shut down shortly before and I think both bus services did too. I don’t know of any options now besides using the metro from LAX and I met a full-time WC user traveling solo who used that route exclusively. Even a Disney DVC rep couldn’t...

Disney cancels many summer Galactic Starcruiser voyages

Just saw a new influencer video on FB so free trips still seem to be given out (this couple gets most things free and very obvious WDW even flew them out for free and provided everything for free). This was bottom-of-the-barrel too. Almost zero content, labeled their trip as to Disneyland, and...

    Canes on rides

At Disney and Universal if the cane can’t go at your feet an employee will take it and give it back to you after the ride. No need to fold it or do anything special unless you are worried other people stepping on it while you ride. Not a big deal and they do this all the time.

What perfume would you bring on your Disney trip?

Thank you. So many don’t realize (or simply don’t care) that strong perfumes can trigger migraines, allergies, etc. and ruin a vacation. Also, what is appealing to one might not to another. I doubt many would want someone next to them smelling of sewage, skunk, or teenage boy who hasn’t...

Disney not as wheelchair friendly as I hoped

It’s disheartening though when strong and able-bodied caregivers of lightweight young children and those who are less disabled become aggressively dismissive of the problems of those who are more disabled (or disabled in different ways) and caregivers who aren’t as strong (and who may be...

    Arthritis at Universal

The Camp Jurassic caves are a lot of fun and there is a wheelchair-accessible route through the cave. There’s also wheelchair area at the Hogwarts light show and parades but it’s not advertised. Light show area is by the Flight of the Hippogryph entrance. Parade area moves around. If watching...

    Buses at Universal

I’d definitely recommend taking the bus from CityWalk to Endless Summer because the sidewalk on the I-4 overpass usually has a lot of broken glass on it that is difficult to avoid when wheeling. Sometimes the crosswalk lights don’t work either and drivers not attentive.

Why I made the switch to Universal Orlando

I’m a big fan of UO but some of your comments seem a bit exaggerating. WDW value and UO premier the same cost? Yeah…no. And UO hardly gives any hotel discounts since January. Random weekend in August after school starts at cheapest UO premier per night is $700 vs cheapest WDW value of $215…both...

UPDATED! Need ideas! Upcoming surgery & mobility issues

You might adapt quicker to using your non-dominant hand than you think. I take my chair in all the haunted houses at Universal (often almost completely dark and ADA minimum the entire time so I maneuver around turns and through doors by feel and hope)….all with my formerly non-dominant hand. I...

    ECVs in Ride Lines

Most queues are not scooter/ECV accessible and require a transfer to a standard manual wheelchair provided free at the entrance of those attractions where scooters won’t fit. Some queues allow scooters to a certain point inside the ride queue like MIB the only part not accessible is toward the...

    Disability Card Question

Last time I added someone I needed their activated ticket to add them to my pass. An annoying inconvenience but some disabled passholders had been selling spots on their pass. You can also renew or add people at any guest services location within the parks…by both train stations and MIB.
