Dockside Inn and Suites Thread..... FAQ and more.....

They should be, we took the busses back to Dockside both nights after the December meetup.

    Oscars weekend?

Agree, the day of a lot in the area will be blocked off so that might affect sightseeing in the area, but otherwise not a big impact.

Safe running routes from Loews Hollywood Hotel?

No personal experience but my husband works out there and their favorite Hollywood runs are the Hollywood Reservoir or Runyon Canyon Park. Both are about 3 mile runs plus 1-2 miles from the Loews hotel to the trailhead, and both are busy and pretty safe in daylight.

    Your Favorite Booze at Aulani

Our first stop is always Costco for POG juice, rum and prosecco!

    One night at Aulani....

I would just relax at the pool and enjoy the lazy river, slides and hot tubs. It's great resort day. We loved Aulani but our boys are now teens too (13 and 15) and last time we went they decided they'd rather stay elsewhere as they prefer adventuring outside the resort (hiking, snorkeling, food...

    Tour stops in LA

This sounds great to me and if you/your kids are into the glamour/fashion and movie/music history it will be perfect. My teen boys would be completely bored with all the Beverly Hills stuff. Their recommended tour would probably look more like Hollywood Blvd/Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater/El...

    Newport vs Santa Monica Again

OC beaches over LA beaches for sure, especially if you are staying in Anaheim. My/my kids favorites were/are Corona del Mar when they were younger and Newport as teens.

Good Restaurants and Bars near Disneyland

For Downtown Disney Ballast Point is our favorite. Outside Disney in Anaheim, Golden Road or Brewery X are fun and relaxing and the Anaheim Packing House (food hall) has some great bars and food.

Joshua Tree NP/DLR trip: where do you stay? how long should I plan on?

For Manzanar, check your date because I believe they are still closed some weekdays post-COVID. That's a long drive from LA (about four hours) to only be able to drive through the grounds. I haven't been to Cesar Chavez but it's a lot closer.

    Cemetery tour

Lots of tourists actually visit cemeteries in LA to see celebrity graves, especially Hollywood Forever and Forest Lawn. There are maps online.

    Restaurants at Universal Hollywood

My kids love the Lard Lad donut, so I have tried it many times with quality varying from good to horrible. I think it depends on how fresh they are.

    USH and Knotts Ride Intensity

The rides at USH (Mummy, Jurassic Park, HPFJ, Hippogriff, all the simulators) are very similar to the same rides at USO, so the intensity will be the same. Steven's summary of the coasters above is great. The only other intense ride at Knotts is Supreme Scream, which is like a much more intense...

    San Diego Hotel Ideas

I haven't been there but it looks beautiful. In that area of SD, I've stayed at the Hyatt Mission Bay and The Dana at Mission Bay and both were great.

First cruise without kids - suggestions?

We've never cruised without the kids but they spend most of their time in the teen club, so we always do a couple nice dinners (Chops, sushi), massages, wine tasting and lots of time in the adult area hot tubs.

    Refreshment package vs. Soda package

Bottled water! We stocked up to take on excursions. Also got a lot of Powerade, Vitamin Water, energy drinks and from the gym juice bar to keep on hand in the room, as well as the juices/smoothies. Plus shakes from Johnny Rockets. This was on our last one on Harmony in November.

Day Stay at hotel - after cruise

We somehow always get evening flights home and usually rent a car and go to Disney Springs or somewhere to hang out for the day.

    Hotels for Universal Studios Hollywood

We have stayed a night at the BLVD Hotel in Studio City when I didn't want to pay for the Hilton/Sheraton and it was reasonably priced and about a 15 minute walk to the park. I don't know if they have rooms for 5-6 but two rooms might be cheaper than a suite elsewhere.

WWYD: Disney/Yosemite Order Memorial Day Weekend 2022

Option 2. Disneyland on Memorial Day was the most crowded I have ever seen it and we swore never again.

Car service between SFO and Palo Alto?

Uber or Lyft are easy in Palo Alto. We usually fly into San Jose but I've never had a problem getting one to/from the airport.

Warner Bros Studio Tour and Academy Awards museum in one day?

Easily doable and if you're going to the museum anyway I'd get lunch somewhere other than WB. There are much better restaurants in Hollywood.
