    The Running Thread - 2021

I'm in Texas. After last month there is no way I'm gonna jinx things by saying yes.

    Marathon Weekend 2021

I don't see why it needs to sell out at all. Virtual races aren't restrained by the actual logistics of the race itself, only the production of shirts and medals. I would think this is far enough out to set the order to match the new number of registrations. There is the online "logistics"...

After considering things, I decided to transfer my Rock n Roll San Diego marathon registration to the 2021 Rock n Roll San Antonio marathon. It's closer geographically and not for another 16 months. That should be enough time for this health problem to get resolved. I hope. And a December race...

Here's a little update for any of you holding their breath regarding Rock n Roll series races. I was registered for the San Diego Marathon and last I heard it was "postponed till fall" and then... silence. Yesterday I got an email notifying me that the race was rescheduled for June 2021 and I...

So, Garmin came back up for everyone but me. I finally was able to force sync my Vivoactive3 via my computer. Then I wiped and updated my device. Still won't sync like normal to my phone. Then I went for a run today. No distance reading and eternal hang up when saving. Needless to say, I'm done...

Aaaaand now my Garmin's GPS died and run data cannot be saved. https://www.zdnet.com/article/garmin-fenix-smartwatches-hit-with-gps-run-saving-glitch-amid-outage/ My Timex Ironman stopwatch is now a better device for tracking my runs. That's a pretty good hint the time has come to find...

As long as they have control of the data, they can do what they want with it. Shutting the entire thing down and restoring it from scratch is then only way to regain control and mitigate the damage.

My guess is this got law enforcement involved, probably the FBI, and that's why there is zero information being released.

I haven't seen any confirmation of this but it's worth noting one threat these attacks use is releasing users personal info. Now might be a good time to update one's passwords.

In case you haven't been able to upload your workout from your Garmin today, you aren't alone. https://www.slashgear.com/huge-garmin-outage-takes-sync-and-garmin-connect-offline-23630428/ One thing is for sure, when they get this mess sorted out, Strava is going to melt down from a tsunami of...

the lack of motivation is a real problem right now for a lot of us. i was struggling with it in june and although i've been somewhat more successful handling it this month, it's not easy. particularly now it's gotten REALLY hot. since i don't have a race to train for, i'm pretty much just...

I have a route I run a couple times a week that takes me by a really dilapidated looking cemetery. It's in a pretty industrial area but, even though it's a bit out of place, it doesn't really stand out. I stopped and looked at the historical marker during a recent run and discovered that it is...

Alright, Texas' governor just issued a statewide mandatory mask requirement. The full proclamation can be found here. For any of you folks here in Texas, you do not have to wear a mask when running as long as you practice social distancing.

After a strong May, I wasn't as dedicated to things in June and my mileage slipped a bit. Still on track with my year goals though. A bit of a breather might have been a good idea but now I have to get back into the routine as the summer slog has begun in full force.
