    Shingles Vaccine (Shingrix)

The first one hurt like a mild flu shot. Not bad at all. My second one was painful. I think it can depend on the pharmacist. I did an internet search after the second one felt much more painful going in and found this thread on reddit: .

    Shingles Vaccine (Shingrix)

I had a strong reaction to shot #1. Shot #2 was half as bad. I was prepared to give myself four days to recover but ended up fine to go to work the day after. I felt bad, but not bad enough to sit around. Glad to have them done. DH just got his first and barely had a sore arm.

    Lake Louise is gorgeous.

Places to visit that are not miserably hot in August?

Please visit. I’d avoid Portland, though, unless you’re a foodie ;) A 2 week visit split between Bend and the coast would make an amazing trip.

Places to visit that are not miserably hot in August?

Adding another location in PNW. My DILs family spends a lot of time in Bend. It’s not coastal but it’s a beautiful area with lots to do. Temps will get in 80s in August. You’d be able to take a day trip to Crater Lake. Hike or fish. Float the river. You could easily spend a couple of weeks and...

Places to visit that are not miserably hot in August?

Another vote for Oregon coast. It’s such a beautiful place. Seaside or Lincoln City. My husband grew up spending summers in Lincoln City so that’s where we usually go. We live more inland near Portland and August usually brings with it at least one intense heat wave. It can be brutal...

    Nike....laying off workers

I have several pairs of Hokas. I love them. I’ve travelled internationally several times this past year. Lots of people wearing Hokas everywhere. They have a global appeal.

Help!!! in need meals ideas with only a Microwave, and a toaster oven... I am desperate...

Cereals and oatmeal for breakfast with berries. Soups and sandwiches with whole wheat bread for lunch. Factor meals (delivery service) for dinner. At their age, they really need extra fiber. You'd have to figure out if this gets them enough.

    Pet adoption...

We've always been a dog family, but over Thanksgiving we rescued a stray cat. She's still in isolation in our house because she has/had parasites, fleas, and mites. She's seen the vet for treatment and will be spayed soon. She is the most grateful animal ever and just wants loves. We found a...

    Need ski clothes advice

Yes, add the helmets. I won't ski without one. Try and find goggles anywhere but at the ski resort. Even REI will be cheaper :)

    Need ski clothes advice

We’ll be in Lake Tahoe in January too. Some of us ski. Some of us gamble. And some of us do both. It’s a great winter vacation spot. I layer wool. I like the smart wool brand, but I have several tops and bottoms of various brands that have lasted for years. That’s what I tend to take for winter...

Who else is burnt out on hosting Thanksgiving?

That game was hilarious. Someone brought it and i think it’s a kid game. That might not even be the name of it. You put a monkey tail on and try and pick up things with it. Young and old found it fun.

Who else is burnt out on hosting Thanksgiving?

I would LOVE to cater the meal. It’s so much work for a single meal. I actually enjoy clean up. Everyone tries to help and it does goes quicker, but I’d rather do it on my own while everyone goes into the other room. It creates frenetic energy with all the people in the kitchen. We ended the...

Who else is burnt out on hosting Thanksgiving?

I love being around my family but the holidays are so much work. We have 16 coming for dinner. This morning is the 2nd day I’ve woken up to a throbbing headache. My niece and nephew aren’t well behaved, their parents scream and everyone else just talks louder because you can’t hear anything...

    Retirees and near retirees...

Most of my close friends have kids that are scattered around the country too. We have four adult kids and this is one of our toughest considerations. I wouldn’t want to make a decision like where to live based on their proximity and then have them move for a job. And then which kid would you...

    Retirees and near retirees...

My husband is 19 months from retirement at his job with the railroad and then we own a successful business together. We’ve had a lot of retirement discussions. This is what we‘ve come up with. State that doesn’t tax RR retirement and pension Need to be within 1 hour from a decent airport...

    Laid Off - Need Hugs

You have my sympathies. My husband lost his job of 25+ years at the start of the pandemic. It was shocking and very stressful. He took those 8 hours each day and used it for job hunting. I immediately tightened up our budget. I‘m sorry you’re going through this. I hope at the end you’ll find...
