    Lost DVC points

So what you are saying is: 1) holding points were always allowed to be banked into next year 2) borrowed points could always be unborrowed These rule changes are posted right on the DVC member site, so don’t tell me no rules were changed Are you also saying that Points I deposit into RCI...

    Lost DVC points

I would not be nearly as upset about losing my points because of “no rule changes” if no rule changes applied to everyone, Not just April/ June. The vast majority of people with affected reservations were able to bank and/or unborrow points because of rule changes. As far as RCI goes, can...

    Lost DVC points

They did put themselves in a vulnerable position. When they didn’t cancel before 30 days, those points were no longer eligible for banking. How does it matter who the rule was meant to protect? Can you explain to me how August points banked into 2020 because of the rule change are less...

    Lost DVC points

But in both cases reservations were made with valid, unexpired points that members paid for. In both cases the reservations were not honored. In both cases the vacation was ruined. In both cases the points were not bankable under normal rules. Sounds like both are apples to me. I think they...

    Lost DVC points

I’m not saying they suspended banking. I’m saying that they changed rules to ALLOW banking points impacted by resort closure that would normally not be bankable, for all use years EXCEPT April/June. There is a rule that says points from any reservation canceled within 30 days of checking in...

    Lost DVC points

They changed the rule that said any points from a reservation canceled within 30 days of check in can’t be banked. Most of the points from those canceled reservations are being banked, even with a rule in place saying they can’t. I hear people argue that April/June use years knew they were...

    Lost DVC points

People are comparing this to fixed weeks and flexible weeks. That’s not what I bought into. I bought into a much more flexible system that allows banking and borrowing across several years. To make rule changes that allow everyone affected to bank their points, EXCEPT April & June use years is...

    Borrowed v. Banking Points Return

They can’t. POS says they must honor reservations. They did not, so there must be compensation. They just need to figure out how. Regardless of what they do, the points are out of balance, and they will need to find a way to make the system work. Just expiring April/June points isn’t nearly...

DVC has stopped returning borrowed points to original use year

I don’t believe there is anything DVCMC could have done that followed the contracts and all laws exactly. It would have been illegal for them to remain open once they determined that closing was in the best interest of the membership, so they could not legally stay open. Once they did close...

    DVC questions- feeling overwhelmed

I predict much lower prices coming, especially for resale, so you might want to wait. I was lucky when I bought in 2012 when prices were at thier lowest after the housing crash. It was luck for me, but you can plan it.

DVC has stopped returning borrowed points to original use year

It’s going to be a legal issue no matter what they do. Just making people forfeit banked & borrowed points they used for March is no where near enough to make up for weeks of closure. It’s just a small fraction of the points used in March. I think the only “legal” way to do this is to refund...

DVC has stopped returning borrowed points to original use year

You should get an exception 2 years from now IF DVC cancels your reservation at the last minute without your permission. If you change your mind, then no.

DVC has stopped returning borrowed points to original use year

So, let me restate what you are proposing: 1) People with reservations this week and April thru July use year lose all thier points, banked, borrowed, and current. And don’t get their vacation. 2) Other people with reservations this week don’t vacation, but get thier points back. 4) People...

DVC has stopped returning borrowed points to original use year

I Agree! What we have here is a situation where there are more points in the system than rooms. It’s as simple as that. Regardless of the reason, you can’t have a solution that impacts only a few owners.

    When to cancel?

I don’t think that the POS allows cancelling the points for reservations they don’t honor either. That is what they are doing for people with a reservation next week and April use year. There is no chance to use those points. The choice is to essentially steal thousands of dollars from a few...

    Lost DVC points

its Really inexpensive to run a closed resort. Those savings should be split among the people who lose points because the resort is closed. Would not be fair to pass those savings along to people who weren’t affected.

DVC has stopped returning borrowed points to original use year

costs on a closed resort are very low. Those savings should be passed on to the people impacted. It would be unfair to divide the savings so all members get lower MF next year.

Do you think DVC should be a little more open to people moving dates without penalty because of corona?

This is a bit more than “I changed my mind.” It’s not a “personal choice”. This is a national emergency! As part of the emergency declaration, people have been asked to eliminate “discretionary” travel. No one wants to cancel thier vacation. They are doing it, AT THE REQUEST OF THE...

Corona Virus long lasting impact on booking availability

I think there is more flexibility in the point system than people think. Availability will be better than normal for a while as many people will be reluctant to travel until covid is completely gone. That’s likely to be a year or more. Then, the excess points can be rolled over into next...

Do you think DVC should be a little more open to people moving dates without penalty because of corona?

I do think there is quite a bit of flexibility in the point system. Enough that this could easily get spread over several years without much impact on availability. Especially not for home resort booking Even if they open up again April 1, there will be good availability for the rest of the...
