I know it is the norm to gang up on USA when it comes to Covid, but why are deaths also high in other developed countries?

This. I'm friends with many teachers in my kids' district, and their district has been closed since last March. Many of the teachers are getting it anyway, even though they haven't set foot in their school since March 12th.

    Do you believe in ghosts?

And it's interesting that there are few modern day ghosts in modern day clothing. That being said, I do believe in spirit presences. Ha ha, DLgal. We posted the same thing at the same time! :)

Are covid shut downs coming to a town near you?

I teach at a private school which relies on tuition to run, so we were told that we won't be closing. A teacher recently tested positive, and we are still open. This is also a school that offers no benefits. I'm lucky enough to be on a spouse's insurance, but others aren't so lucky.

The US Covid Recovery is Exceptional. Why? What did it do different?

As others have mentioned, Americans are more unhealthy compared to many countries. Obesity, portion sizes, processed foods, etc. At the beginning of the pandemic, the media would often report people dying of Covid who had "no underlying health factors" failing to mention that many of these...

Are you doing your part for the economy?

I'm teaching full time in person. Supporting small, local businesses. When I do support the travel industries, restaurants, etc., I get a lot of judgement from people who tell me I should sit inside at home.

Digital School Stinks for Elementary Kids

I have been teaching in person for the last six weeks, while my kids are remote learning. It's been awful. My fourth grader hates school for the first time. He has headaches and dreads logging on. The board is supposed to vote today to see whether they will go back in person/hybrid model...

How many people do you know who have had Corona Virus?

I know eight. A few family members (very mild symptoms), and a few of my kids' friends' family members (asymptomatic).

What are you still salty about?

When I was a sophomore a girl (family well known in the community) had mono during tryouts and missed them, yet somehow still made the cheerleading team. I didn't make the team that year. I haven't thought about that in a decade, but I guess I'm still bitter lol

What's the ONE life decision you regret (the most)?

Not moving out of Illinois. I had suggested it to my husband after a year of living here, but he didn't want to take the BAR exam in a different state. I didn't press the issue and it's one of my biggest life regrets, because now we are stuck here.

Job (or life) changes and the fear of the unknown

I was mildly unhappy at a teaching job. There were lots of pros… I loved the students. I enjoyed some of the curriculum. I worked with two of my best friends. The pay was great. A couple of things happened that made me want to look elsewhere (testing emphasis, micromanaging, some “mean girl”...

My Pie-in-the-Sky Wish for Elementary Education in the Pandemic

I had a student this year whose parents BEGGED to have their child repeat seventh grade. Administration said it wasn’t possible.

Are you sending your kids to school next month?

I understand your point, but sports and activities are often tied to school, and those have been cancelled as well. I know for me, being isolated was very very difficult and the first time I was able to see friends it was like a cloud had lifted. I teach teens, and many times sports, band...

Working out of the home/school is remote

First of all, I wanted to thank everybody so much for your thoughtful responses and suggestions. Each one of you has given me something to think about. To clarify, I'm worried about all of the kids being alone all day, but mainly about the nine year old who does need help, and the 15 year old...

Working out of the home/school is remote

I will get a discount, but it’s still pricey especially with my pay cut. This private school is more “nontraditional“ and I don’t know how well my son would do. He’s kind of a mainstream kid. He’s a very intelligent kid who is in mostly AP classes, but it was a motivation issue and confusion...

Are you sending your kids to school next month?

I had planned on it, but my kids' district just announced remote learning. I'm a private school teacher (new position...super timing on my part..ugh), which will go back face to face in two weeks. Looks like my kids will be remote and I have some tough decisions to make.

Working out of the home/school is remote

My last job in the public school killed my mental health and I can't go back there. I had things thrown at me, was called profane names on a regular basis and it was just a really toxic environment. It came to the point where my husband and friends were really worried about me because I became...

Working out of the home/school is remote

My kids’ school district had originally implemented a hybrid plan for kids returning to school, and I signed my kids up for that option. The superintendent just announced that all schools would be remote. Two weeks ago I had accepted a teaching position at a private school, and they are going...

What do you think school will be like in the fall? UPDATE page 29 for Mass.

Chicago suburbs. Competitive gymnastics, baseball and football conditioning have begun. Temps are taken, everything is sanitized and then sanitized again, practice times are cut down, masks are worn upon entering and exiting, but the seasons have started! :)

What do you think school will be like in the fall? UPDATE page 29 for Mass.

As a teacher, I can tell you that from what I've read, these plans are not sustainable. My solution is to sanitize and wash hands more, but otherwise have school as normal. Anybody who is worried or has underlying health issues can be homeschooled through elearning. The districts are equipped...
