First week of Paradise Pier and Main Street Closures

We are coming from Canada tomorrow, and this will be our first DL trip in 10 years, and possibly our last (WDW and other travel plans instead). Our flights were booked and other arrangements made just before they announced the Main Street construction or we would have delayed our trip. I am...

They've moved up the Fantasyland rope-drop (finally)!

Your weekly updates are so helpful and fun to read! I really hope they are still doing the rope drop this way next week when we visit. It will detract from the walls and make the mornings more enjoyable I think. :)

    Main Street refurb rope-drop update

Thank you for the the pics and updates. We have a trip in 3 weeks, and are kind of bummed about the Main Street refurb. I was so looking forward to that morning walk towards the castle with the view! Oh well, I am sure there will be plenty of other magic to be had.

Choosing the Right DLR Area Hotel for You

Great guide! We fall into the 2nd category definitely. Love the ease of being able to walk back and forth with no shuttle or uber involved. We've only been to DL once before 10 years ago. We stayed at the Hojo with those amazing entertainment book rates. We had two energetic 7yo in tow, the...

    February 2018 Check-in Thread

We are booked for Feb 2nd-7th, and staying at the Best Western PPI. It will be our first Disneyland trip in exactly 10 years! And our first kids free Disney Parks visit ever!

How much do you spend on food?

Hmmm, I am budgeting about $160 a day for 2 of us for an upcoming trip. This does include a BB Fantasmic package, as well as Carthay Circle and Cafe Orleans lunches. It also takes into account a hotel breakfast. I seem to be coming in a little high compared to others in this thread, but when I...

    Vrbo rentals

Yup, I looked for ones with lots of reviews on homeaway and vrbo, as well as tripadvisor (a lot of the properties are cross posted). Then I contacted a short list of the well-reviewed villas that met our group's criteria. From there I chose the ones where the owners had the best communication...

    Ride "equivalency"?

The Mummy is much more intense than Big Thunder. It would be closer to Everest intensity-wise. I have a son who likes Big Thunder, and tried Mummy once but hated it, and was quite angry with mom for describing it as a "mild" coaster.

FP+ is now completely worthless if you are staying offsite.

Uproar? I think you are picking the wrong person to quote in context of an "uproar". :) All I said was I am watching the direction Disney is taking with FP+ and offsite guests warily. Somebody call the riot police! ;)

FP+ is now completely worthless if you are staying offsite.

The accommodation charge can be large and I am not arguing for a second that there should not be added value for those staying onsite. But consider an onsite guest staying at a value resort and eating QS (or with free dining, or going offsite to eat), vs an offsite family eating TS and signature...

FP+ is now completely worthless if you are staying offsite.

This is a silly assumption. We stay offsite and eat all our meals on site, and spend a ridiculous amount on souvenirs. The only revenue that Disney is losing from us is the actual accommodation charge. For the amount that we spend on these Disney trips we could be going to Europe. We fly from...

New! Haunted Mansion-Inspired Dooney & Bourke Bag

Darnit, I think I want one of these...and considering what a pain they are to get, I kind of wish I didn't... I started reading, but then got intimidated by the 73 page length of this thread... :faint: Would someone mind helping me with a few questions? Are there now two different exterior...

Depression & Anxiety is making me miss a lot

I am really surprised that your Dr. would give you a scrip for Xanax without first recommending counselling. Therapy should be the frontline treatment for anxiety/depression with meds as a support to that therapy as needed. I completely understand that it doesn't take much to discourage someone...

Disney to trial new allergy menus

Sounds like a great idea for those with one or two top ten allergies! Anything that reduces the load on the chefs while keeping allergic guests safe is a win in my books.

Ride Anxiety - HSP - anticipating that things will be scary

I am also a very anxious person (GAD), and completely understand your concerns. Here are some things that help me, much of which has already been mentioned by PPs. -find out as much as I can about each ride ahead of time -find out the length of each ride. This is huge for me, because if I end...

Thinking a trip with no kids....still fun?

Can't wait to go on a kids free trip someday! We are thinking DL or WDW for just the two of us will be a suitable consolation for when we are empty nested. ;)

    Prioritizing and planning...

I agree with the PPs saying that it depends on your usual schedule and your kids' energy levels and needs. Are they morning people or night owls? Are they the type to need a break and a rest after 6 hours at school, or can you take them straight to activities afterwards? How do they generally...
