SPACE RESTAURANT WATCH THREAD—Entrance photos post #1609!!

AFAIK, the only a la carte menu is in the lounge. There are no individual big ticket items on the regular dining room menus, just supplementary charges for upgrades such as adding shrimp or lobster to the filet dinner or getting the big ribeye or stuffed lobster as the entree. Base price for...

SPACE RESTAURANT WATCH THREAD—Entrance photos post #1609!!

Really disappointing menu. The food sounds like it's from an early 2000s business-class hotel in a third-tier American city. I was expecting something more international and chef-driven. This seems closer to Coral Reef or BOG and I was hoping for something more like Tiffins or bluezoo in terms...

    First time solo in August

If you can't get a reservation for one at 50s PT, try booking it for two people. If that fails, you can order from the full menu at the bar (Tune In Lounge). I totally agree about "apps as dinner." They're often better than the entrees, anyway. I don't know if you like Asian food, but Morimoto...

First solo trip... looking for planning advice

Just a few tips: 1. Take advantage of single rider lines for Expedition Everest, Test Track and Rock N Roller Coaster. 2. I've found it pretty easy to score a good spot for parades/fireworks when solo without staking out a spot hours ahead. 3. I did MNSSHP solo once and didn't really enjoy...

    Soufflé

Just another thought...reread my post and you'll notice that I didn't say anything about how Shula's prepares their soufflés, just that Disney-run places don't do them at all. I could be mistaken (and hope I am), but I believe V&A no longer gives you a choice of dessert. It is a set format...

    First time solo in August

That's awesome! Solo trips are the BEST and Pop is perfect for it. Having the Disney perks is so much better than staying off site, especially with ME factored in. WDW is one of the best places for solo travelers--safe, clean, friendly, and so many choices. I was a bit self-conscious during my...

    Soufflé

They don't serve them at F&W booths. It would be a logistical nightmare, if not an impossibility. The exact timing issues are also why they don't serve them at Disney-run restaurants...their desserts are mostly just assembled/finished, not prepared a la minute. V&A used to have excellent...

DXDP - Signature Restaurants. Your best and worst?

Jiko, CA Grill and Flying Fish are worth two credits. Morimoto Asia and Jaleo* are, as well, if you plan on ordering higher-priced items. These places are worth it for me, even when paying cash. Be Our Guest, Cinderella's Royal Table and Spirit of Aloha are not worth 2 credits, based on food...

Men... What to wear - Victoria & Albert's

The most casual I've dressed for V&A is a linen sport coat, lightweight dress pants, collared shirt without a tie, and dressy loafers (not topsiders). I've also dressed one step below black tie. Most times, I've worn a blazer and dress pants (or a suit), dress shirt and tie, and dress shoes...

Disney food you miss the most...

    1. Chef's counter wine dinner at Flying Fish 2. Ostrich appetizer at Jiko 3. Victoria & Albert's previous format (many more choices) 4. Akershus before princess dining, when it was a full smorgasbord

Why isn't the food better at WDW?

I, too, live in a food mecca, grew up in another one, am an excellent home cook, know some of the nation's best chefs, and have eaten literally hundreds of meals at multi-star and -diamond restaurants...and still look forward to Disney meals. I know what to avoid (QS burgers and pizza in the...

    Just booked Victoria & Albert's - wowie

For ozliz: The vegetarian menu is excellent, but has become too expensive over the past few years.

    Favorite/Best Italian Restaurant

In all fairness to Il Mulino, the Orlando door is branded as their more casual Trattoria Il Mulino, whereas the original Il Mulino New York is a fine dining ristorante. There was a Trattoria Il Mulino in NYC, but it closed. I haven't eaten at the Orlando BiCE, but I really enjoyed the one here...

Why isn't the food better at WDW?

I sure hope that other poster isn't a surgeon! FWIW, I loves me some tasty veal thymus! My old-school neighborhood steakhouse has had a sweetbreads and mushroom appetizer on the menu for decades.

    Paddlefish or The Boathouse?

True dat. Snow is the tilapia of crab. It's too bad that king crab has become so costly (even at Costco).

    Paddlefish or The Boathouse?

I may be mistaken, but I don't think Boathouse has king crab. Paddlefish has king crab and snow crab legs, as well as lobster. If you're not bound to the dining plan, probably the best lobster can be found at Shula's and bluezoo. Most WDW restaurants serve 1 1/4 pound whole lobsters (ie, puny)...

Have Flying Fish ADR for next Wed... Good Idea

FF is one of the better Disney-owned restaurants, but if you're not on a dining plan, I would never choose it over bluezoo/Shula's/Il Mulino (or Capa, La Luce or Bull & Bear, for that matter). If you don't have any discount (such as TiW), FF is a poor value proposition. It IS good generally, but...

Lion King Musical Dining Experience at Jiko

Looks great! Seems like a pretty good value, too.

Your top dish from your top 3 restaurants

Haven't tried Boathouse yet, but those first two are FANTASTIC. I've even had Jiko do a double portion of the boar for my entree.

Caught something, Not exactly sure now?

Happy to help! My personal favorite is amnesic shellfish poisoning, but neurotoxic SP and paralytic SP are tons-o-fun, too. These make a few explosive, unplanned rest stops caused by diarrhetic SP seem quaint by comparison. The worst food poisoning I ever had was not from shellfish, but likely...
