slo’s FRIDAY 4/19 poll - Green Olives vs Black Olives

Green only, no black, but I do like Kalamata. The normal black olives (like on pizza) taste like tires to me.

    Work computer stinks

I would say that it's more your IT department being stingy with their purchases. A Yugo instead of a Toyota.

    slo’s THURSDAY 4/18 poll - Michael Buble 🎶🎤

I really like him, but I'm afraid I've only listened to his Christmas stuff! Never really thought about the non-holiday songs. Maybe I'll listen to him today.

    Work computer stinks

:thumbsup2 Totally agree. I forgot (doh!) I also have a keyboard I use when I've attached the laptop to a bigger screen.

    Work computer stinks

Sympathies. I can't stand the mousepad on my computer--I use a wireless mouse and change the settings to turn off the mousepad when another mouse is installed. I've had a Microsoft Surface for about 5 years (2 different ones, because they update regularly without really needing to, IMO), and...

    slo’s Wednesday 4/10 poll - Bug Zapper 🦟

Missed the poll yesterday! My parents had a bug zapper. Our house isn't one that we sit outside much, so we don't have one (never really considered it).

    Solo Amtrak travel

Sounds great! I took Amtrak a few years ago, from DC to Chicago, when I had an absessed tooth (the dentist in DC wouldn't let me fly home for 48 hours) and had a roomette. It was fun (apart from the tooth!). I found there's a whole subculture of people who only take trains -- met some really...

    slo’s THURSDAY 4/11 poll - Ice

We're in the process of selling our home and moving (to FLORIDA!). I have just a few "must haves," and a refrigerator with an ice machine is one of them. I'm so sick of being the only one to fill the ice tray. As it's just DH and me, I know who's falling down on the job.

slo’s TUESDAY 4/9 poll - Frozen vs Fresh vs Canned Vegetables

Tends to vary based on vegetable. Fresh onions, potatoes, brussels sprouts. Frozen green beans, peas, mixed veggies. For holiday meals, it's only fresh.

Have you been back to your honeymoon spot?

Interesting. 34 years. Right after the wedding, we went to Williamsburg. Then, about 6 months later, we took a cruise -- it was still Premier Cruise Lines then, pre "Big Red Boat" and pre "Disney Cruise Line." It was a 4-day cruise to the Abacos Out Islands and 3 days in Disney. We've been...

Retired & No Desire to Travel....?

My parents were that way. They're the "everyday millionaires" -- they scrimped and saved and lived for retirement and have $2 million net worth now, even though they never made more than $50K/year. They moved to Maryland to a 55+ community (no family around) and were just happy with their...

    Random Voice Mail Messages

My worst is that "LaTonya" apparently gave my phone number out as hers about 15 years ago. She apparently doesn't pay her bills and holds a completely different political viewpoint than I do.

slo’s THURSDAY 4/4 poll - Belvita Breakfast Biscuits

I like them (blueberry), but don't buy it for myself -- just have them at the office when they're provided for meetings.

    slo’s TUESDAY 4/2 poll - Breakfast Meats 🥓

Bacon. Followed by the good sausage links, not the little wrinkly ones.

Just discovered a quirky state rule, tell me about yours (region or country)

Interesting. I saw that it's illegal to bring a French poodle to the opera in Chicago. No culture for animals, I guess.

Don't you feel iffy when people put letters after their name?

I work with physicians, so any degree helps. I use my MA, CAE (certified association executive) somewhat to help level it out. I'm working on my PhD now. When I finish it (gah--2027 I think), I will absolutely use the PhD, but not the MA.

Just discovered a quirky state rule, tell me about yours (region or country)

Apparently, according to Illinois state law, it is illegal to speak English. The officially recognized language is"American". Also, it is illegal for anyone to give lighted cigars to dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals kept as pets. There’s an Illinois law that reportedly mandates all...

Giving a birthday gift of $80 in singles

I've done origami for money gifts. Google Dollar Bill Origami. I did a poem for DMIL giving money for a trip, and each page of the poem had a different origami piece, like a shirt/pants/suitcase, etc. I also did a bouquet for her for Mother's Day one year:

    slo’s WEDNESDAY 3/27 poll - Weighted Blanket

My daughter uses one -- says it helps with anxiety. I chose Other as well. I tried one. Maybe I got one too heavy (I chose based on my weight), but I wasn't able to roll over in bed (I'm a restless sleeper) and it gave me a bit of claustrophobia (even though I LOVE lots of quilts on me -- go...
