2 rooms or a suite, family of 5

Should I book 2 rooms or a junior suite as a family of 5 with two kids and a toddler who is 4 (and still sleeps with me and DH on vacations)? We will be using Disney transportation, including Magical Express.

I'd prefer a junior suite, but the max is 4 people. Can I book it and just call Disney to add the toddler?

Thank you for your insights!

remember that connecting rooms is not bookable and not a sure thing. you will not be able to use Jr Suite as you are a party of 5 even if he sleeps with you. you will need to book a room or suite that allows 5 people not matter where the youngest sleeps

I don't think of a four year old as a toddler. Disney counts everyone three years and older for purposes of room occupancy, no exceptions.

I've never stayed at either of these, but All Star Music and Art of Animation both have family suites that fit 6.
We usually do a two or three bedroom DVC villa with more than 2 people. The deluxes also have some multi bedroom suites but these are a higher cost option, and you have to call to book them. I never see them show up for booking online.

I really want to stay at Gran Destino Tower. We love Beach Club, but I wanted something different for this trip.

It's just so difficult with a family of 5+. I can't leave the tweens in a room that's not a connecting, and we fit into a suite, but aren't allowed. It's so frustrating.

I have been debating between Disney and Boca Raton (which my kids love)--maybe this makes our decision for us.

Are you sure about this? I see suites on the website that list 6 as the occupancy.

You are so sweet to check options! These are not available our dates. I am going to check frequently in case something opens up. Even then, in suites for 6, there are two queen beds. I really need a king so that DH, 4yo, and I can fit comfortably. The tweens can share a sofabed easily. I just wish Disney would let me add the 4yo even if I have to pay the "extra adult" fee. I am so disappointed right now.

Forgive me if I’m missing something, but we always sleep 5 in a regular room with a pull down bed. We’ve done this at the Contemporary, Port Orleans Riverside, and the Grand Floridian. My youngest is almost 4 also... usually what happens is DH or I will sleep in 1 queen with her, the other of us will sleep with a big kid in the other, then a big kid in the twin bed. We’ve done this several years and, while I’m sure it can’t last forever, we’re all so tired by the time we crash we’ve had no complaints so far!

We sleep in a 5 person room at CBR. Often we will put a kid on the 5th sleeper and then a kid and a parent in each bed.

It’s a fire code, king beds are for 2 people. Can you find accommodations where your preschooler sleeps without you?

What about CBR or POR? Both of those resorts have rooms that sleep 5. The pull down Murphy bed would be perfect for the 4 year old.

Wanting a King bed is what is making it so hard to find what will fit your family. Could you make do with a queen?

It has to do with the fire code. There is a lot more to that then the size of the beds. It takes into account how many people on each floor, if there are elevators or not, the size of the doorway, and other things as well.

Have you looked at any of the 1BR villas that sleep 5 people? Those villas have a king bed in the bedroom and you would have a full kitchen (helps for reducing costs) plus a washer/dryer right in your villa. It’s not too late to book at OKW through a DVC owner for some fall dates. Or you can check for availability on the Disney website for cash reservations.

Family of 5 here! 👋
We typically rent a 1 bedroom suite at Kidani or BLT which both sleep 5 and have a separate sleeping chair which is nice to have three separate sleeping surfaces. The bedrooms have a king bed which would solve your problem.

Most other DVCs would require a 2 bedroom which is too expensive for us!

We used to be DVC owners, so we always booked a 1 BR for our family of five. Since we have sold DVC, this is our first WDW trip where we are staying in regular hotel rooms. Our kids are 20, 18, and 12, so we booked 2 rooms at YC.
