Nine Nights: Filling 2019 with Disney Adventures around the World *New TR Link 7/31

WHAT?! :scared1:
Oh no!!! This is so disappointing. Alex isn't a sentimental guy; he probably wouldn't bring a camera into the parks or remember to take any photos if it weren't for me, but this is the one thing he wants to make sure he gets every trip. The shot with Landon actually pulling the sword out is in a frame I let Landon paint for Father's Day, and Alex makes a point to set it up in every office he has. Including the ones at his deployed locations! He's going to be so devastated when I tell him this....
I don't it's all lost. Maybe ask the CM in Sir Mickey's to see when they do the little show. I am sure you can still get the picture, just not quiet is easy.

The Rubbermaid bin holds all our dog's essentials, and the big HP bag is our cookware necessities. And the blue/green beach bag will be staying at a friends' house because it has our wine, laundry detergeant, and cooking spices.
We also have our carry-on backpacks and the dog's kennel, but then that's it! Everything we will need until around mid-July.

Talk about living with less!
That is impressive! Do you have none of your kids toys?!?!

- (~ this means it's new to me) Peter Pan Float:

I feel like literally everyone is raving about this snack, and I've got some major FOMO going on. Even though lime isn't a flavor I really like, I'm hoping it will be refreshing enough that I won't mind it.
I have yet to try this. I still want to try it.

- Magic Hat Number 9 Beer from AKL ***Alex loved this beer when he tried it at F&G in 2014, which is very rare because he's not a drinker. So when I saw this on the Mara's menu, we both became really excited. Now, hanging out in a quiet spot while we drink some Magic Hat # 9 is on our list of things to do during our kid-free trip. ***
Magic Hat #9 is sooo good!!!

Spoiler alert: We are eating at Liberty Tree Tavern one night, and I cannot wait to finally try this infamous dish.
I had some of this at the dessert party. It is soooo sweet! I want to book Liberty Tree Tavern on our December trip just to have this but I don't know if it will fit.

I'm caught back up again! Sorry, it took me a while. Your Disney trip is coming up so quickly now! In the meantime, I'm sure the packing and moving has been hectic, to say the least. I'm looking forward to more of your updates, and to hearing all about your trip when it comes around. :)

That is a huge job getting everything packed!

It was tiresome, but it gets easier with every move. I have learned what are "essentials" and what can be shipped ahead of time. Hopefully, by the time we leave England I will be a pro at packing.

Putting this on my list for our AKL stay!

I'm looking forward to eating at AKL and enjoying its amenities while we are there.

Well done on getting all the packing sorted. I didn't realize you had to find your own house when you moved country-I thought maybe the military had housing you stayed in but I guess at least you get to fully experience what it's like to live in each place like a local which is good :)
I love lists too and find them calming plus they focus my mind on what I actually want/need to do/try. Those are some really tasty looking snacks plus the mugs look great too. I'm happy you can breathe a little now and start to look forward to your trip :)

ETA Meant to say I’m glad you’ve all got your priorities straight re the packing- Evie has her princess dress and youve got seasonings, wine and laundry detergent. Excellent job right there!:thumbsup2:goodvibes

Every base varies in regards to housing. Here in Germany, there were a few "regular" homes and a lot of apartment style houses. When you first get to a base, you have to register with the housing office. And if they have a house available that is in your category (rank, number of children) then it will be offered to you. We were offered one of the apartments, but it was on the third floor and pretty small so we declined it and found a house off base.
In England, we do hope to live on base but the last time we called, there was no availability so we are planning on having to live in one of the neighboring communities. (And when you do live off base, you are given a set amount for rent based on rank and kids, so you try to find a house that falls within that amount. It is also in the local currency so you don't have to make up the difference.)
Some people love living in the community, some love living on base. It's really all a matter of opinion and what your interests/desires are.

Amazing packing skills!
Now I have a bunch more snacks to try this weekend!
Can't wait to meet you!

I hope you're having a great trip!
I cannot wait to meet you in a few weeks; I appreciate you being willing to meet up. It's easy for me since I'm on vacation, but I know you're still working and the kids are still in school, so thank you!

Hey Alicia,

I'm trying to climb out of a very, VERY deep DISHole, but making progress. I'm all caught up here and can relate all too well with packing and living out of suitcases and moving. It's... hard.

You have some fantastic snacks planned! 8 Spoons... MMMMM!!! And the Peter Pan Float. OH YES!

Glad that the Shades debaucle was fixed and the FiPs were salvaged! EEK!

I am trying and failing to stay out of the DISHole. Internet is sporadic at our temporary housing, so I imagine I'll fall even more behind than I already am this week. It happens...

I first saw the mac and cheese at 8 Spoons from your reports and have been eyeballing it ever since!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:#princessproblems

Wow! That moving process sounds extremely intense. I am highly impressed by your organizational skills!

This is literally me with pin trading except it's DBF doing all the talking! :rotfl:

That's how I feel about the Peter Pan float too. I'm dying to try it but I don't like lime at all so I don't know what to do.

Ugh I wish I was eating this right now! Our last meal at LTT was so disappointing that DBF won't agree to go back yet but that toffee cake is soooo good!

I stopped pin trading, because I was always making Alex do the work. Hopefully, Evie will be better than me!

Oh no! Originally, I booked LTT because the dessert is legendary and I saw they had the beer Alex likes. Then I discovered AKL serves the beer, and the toffee cake is sometimes served at the dessert party. And since we're eating a turkey-esque dinner at Garden Grill, I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel this reservation.

I had some of this at the dessert party. It is soooo sweet! I want to book Liberty Tree Tavern on our December trip just to have this but I don't know if it will fit.

The kids were able to fit 5 or 6 stuffed friends and their 2 favorite books in their suitcase. Then, they each have a carry on backpack that has their Ipads, headphones, workbook/coloring book, baggie of crayons and markers, a gallon Ziploc bag with their plastic toys, and two more stuffed friends.
Landon is still going to school so that keeps him entertained during most of the day, and we are next door to a park. So Evie has been staying busy with slides and library books. They both can keep themselves occupied with pinecones and rocks, so they haven't noticed the absence of toys. (They've also gone to friends' houses and played with their things.)

I did not realize the dessert party had the toffee cake. Hmmm. This has posed a new quandary. I booked LTT for the dessert and because it served Alex's Magic Hat # 9. Now that I can get both elsewhere, I'm wondering if I should change the reservation. We are eating a Thanksgiving-like dinner at Garden Grill, too, so I'm not sure if the kids will be turkey-ed out. Guess I'll have something to think about this week.

It's been a whirlwind, that's for sure. But we are almost to our trip, so that has been nice. The kids appreciate us having more time to do fun things versus clearing out of our house and packing!

Take it with a grain of salt. I don't mind it, in fact, I prefer it to be a bit on the drier BAKED side, not totally drowning in fake cheese sauce. I like that it has the bread crumbs and cheese on top and the sweet chili sauce drizzled on top makes it so perfect!

Good for them! And school does keep them busy during the week.

I have never had the official LTT version but it is a giant pot of it, and they have vanilla ice cream to add on as well.

Hi Alicia! I'm really enjoying your PTR (and have enjoyed reading about your past trips, as well).

One possible solution for your LTT dilemma... have you considered lunch? Lunch at LTT is one of my favorite things (I've done it on my last four trips!) and it's such a nice break in the air conditioning with good food. The lunch menu allows you to order individual meals such as a chesseburger (SO good!), the Colony Salad (field greens with chicken, apples, pecans, etc.), pot roast, etc., AND you can order the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake as dessert! You could always split a meal and then order the dessert - it may be cheaper than the dinner. I'm not sure how it would work into your plans, but I just thought I'd throw it out there as an option!

I love some breadcrumbs on a Mac and Cheese, and I'm pretty positive this is a dish I'll end up trying this trip. I prefer savory over sweet snacks, even if it is a million degrees out.

That almost sounds better than the restaurant version, because you can decide how much ice cream to include. I don't like a lot with my desserts, but Alex does so this is going to be a good compromise I think.

Hi, thank you for the kind words! A LTT lunch is a really good idea; I hadn't thought of that alternative before. I'll take a peek at my plans and see if there's any availability. I appreciate the suggestion, because that idea never crossed my mind!

No actual update today. *sigh* The wifi here at temporary lodging has been terrible, and I haven't been in the room much. Two friends that moved to Germany the same summer as me are also (or have already) moved and are in lodging with us, so it's been a big round of farewells this week.
Alex has been swamped with finishing all the paperwork necessary for moving and attending going aways.

Landon had his last day of school yesterday! (He was allowed to finish two and half weeks early.) When I picked him up, his classmates gave him a big send off and several had made him farewell cards. Landon has taken this move kind of hard, and it almost broke my heart to hear him say as we walked home: "I'm feeling sad. Very sad. But I don't want to cry anymore, so I am just going to feel the sadness."

:sad::sad::sad:

In other news, we fly to Florida tomorrow. :cheer2: Our flight is pretty horrendous, but we didn't get any choice in the matter. The military basically said, "You're going on this one," and we had to accept it. I'm dreading the first 11 hour flight, because the last time I flew for more than 9 hours I started feeling sick. Hoping that doesn't happen this time around.

There's still a lot to do between now and tomorrow morning, and I really shouldn't wasting time on the DIS. :rotfl: I have to make a final wave of goodbyes, drop our pup off at his dog lodge, and repack our bags. Lots to do and time is running out!
That being said, I think I'm caught up on everyone's reports. If I missed yours, please let me know and I'll head that way. :goodvibes

Oh no! Poor Landon! Luckily he’ll be headed to see family soon — and his pal, Tink!

I hope y’all have a safe flight and that it isn’t bad. Fingers crossed for smooth travels!

"I'm feeling sad. Very sad. But I don't want to cry anymore, so I am just going to feel the sadness."

Awe, poor guy.

Meh, sometimes when you've been going non stop, you just need to veg out in the internet a bit.

Good luck with your travels! I hope the flights go smoothly.

Poor guy! It's good that he can express his feelings though!

Ach poor Landon :(
It must be so tough on both of you! I’m glad you’re off to Florida soon and crossing my fingers that you have a good flight! Have a wonderful trip and like someone else said ( sorry head like a sieve and can’t remember who even though it was only a post or two back) it’s great Landon can tell you how he feels.
Take care of yourselves and have a great time in Florida

It's hard to see your kids sad but it's great that he expresses that to you and doesn't keep it inside. There will be fun times ahead for him! Hope your travel goes smoothly. Looking forward to reading all about it!

That a very mature statement. And he is justified in it. I hope he gets the happies back soon.

:cool1:

Fingers crossed this flight goes better.

Oh Landon! What an insightful, sensitive, articulate little person he is! I hope he finds a little joy in this difficult time. Wishing you the best of luck on your long flight! I know that awful airsick feeling, but I'm sending good vibes your way for an easy flight for everyone!

:sad: That's so mature of him to say but wow that actually put tears in my eyes. I hope your trip and seeing family helps cheer him up and maybe make the adjustment a little easier.

YAYY! I hope your flight goes smoothly! You guys have to be so flexible in so many aspects of your life- I admire how you do it!
