AbracadaBar question

I wanted to do something special for my husband on our upcoming trip to celebrate his birthday and our 20th anniversary. He is a magician, so I thought it might be fun to go to AbracadaBar one night for some drinks. I was wondering if anyone has had experience in this place as a magician - do they encourage guests to play along? I was even thinking of telling him to bring a couple small effects he could pull and perform. Any reviews or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I would describe Abracadabar as a bar with magic themed decor. I have never seen anything that allows the guests to interact with the theme, like at Trader Sam’s. His magic tricks might be really appreciated, but I’ve never seen anything like that.

I agree with PP. It is more magic-themed with some neat effects (make sure to pay attention to the posters on the wall!). Some of the drinks are magic-themed as well. Your server and other guests might really get a kick out of it if your DH bring some tricks though! I think it could still be fun. Perhaps go to AbracadaBAR and then plan to watch some of the performers on the Boardwalk.

Thanks for all your replies! I don't want him to embarrass himself, so maybe no tricks. So, another option would be to take him to Trader Sam's. Would that be a more fun, interactive, place?

Yes, there are definitely more special effects and antics at Trader Sam's! AbracadaBar is subtle. Trader Sam's isn't subtle in the slightest!!! Unlike AbracadaBar, Trader Sam's also has apps and they are quite good! If you want to do something a little more fun and upbeat, Trader Sam's would fit the bill.

Have you considered going to Hoop Dee Doo Revue? That may sound out of left field as you've been mentioning lounges, but HDDR is REALLY fun, quite interactive as the cast comes into the audience and they recognize all birthdays and anniversaries. They even bring some lucky (or not so lucky depending on how you look at it!) guests up on stage at the end of the show!

AbracadaBar is really impressive and makes me think if the Tower of Terror had a bar, this would be it. The theming is very unique, but agree it doesn't have the same amount of effects as TS.

If he's a magician, he may still enjoy the bar I think?

If I were there as a patron I would love to watch another guest do some magic. It's vacation! :)

He LOVES Hoop Dee Doo (and any other show where he gets to interact with the cast - he has been chosen twice to get up on stage at the Golden Horseshoe in Disneyland). But I am planning for an evening where we have a 7:50 dinner reservation at Rose & Crown. I was hoping to stroll over to the Boardwalk after Illuminations.

Yay! Yes, it is vacation!!! and I think I'll keep the plans to go to AbracadaBar. I'll have him pack a deck of cards or something easy for him to carry just in case the mood strikes him to do some magic. If nothing else, he'll enjoy the atmosphere and drinks.

If you have a 7:50 ADR at Rose & Crown, I would definitely just go to AbracadaBAR after Illuminations. I didn't realize you were planning on being in the EP area. Though subtle, I think he will really enjoy the "magic" at the bar and the Boardwalk is so fun at night. Maybe stop by JellyRolls? Or, if he likes karaoke, you could go to Kimono's at the Swan? I think you have a great evening planned!

I'd take him just for the atmosphere/theming and drinks.

Have a great trip! :D
