Strollers in the Hallways at Resorts

It probably bothered me more than it should have. I just think it is super bold to not take responsibility for your property. I think it's downright rude for someone to clog up a hallway/ruin a thoughtful theme.

I can't even talk about the ECVs yet. Rudest people ever.

I am curious about the rude ECV behavior. I use one, and I know that what some people may think is rude behavior is more a function of how an ECV works...for example no brakes on those things, so when people step in front of you (amazes me all the time...it is like you are not there), you may not be able to stop quick enough. Don't get me wrong, I know there are people that abuse them, just like everything in this world there are those that take advantage and feel entitled, but just curious...and to make sure that I am self aware of not doing something someone else thinks is rude.

If you are driving into furniture, you shouldn't be using a scooter. You drive it into the room and leave it by the door.

I don't understand why people are leaving them in the hallway either...you need to charge them every night (or at least you should...I never looked at the hallways to see if they have outlets)...so you pretty much have to pull them into the room and position them near an outlet.

I agree that the minute someone sees even one other person doing something, they think that gives them the "OK" to do it themselves. All it takes is one person to break the rules and other people will join in. Simple logic that goes back to elementary days. It's really up to the resorts to stay on top of this. I would think it would be against fire codes etc. Not to mention, I would never want to risk someone taking my stroller mid way through vacation so I wouldn't even try it. We always make room for our stroller in our room. Usually right by the door unfolded so that we can load kids in the room and make a quick exit.

I saw this for the first time last year when I stayed at Pop Century - I had never noticed it before as much. I don't think people are feeling entitled or holier than thou - I just think someone checks in and sees these items in the hallway and thinks it is ok so they do the same if they are squeezed for space at all. When you see everyone else doing it then you think it is ok or perhaps preferred if you do it too. If the resorts would spend some time placing a note on the items or post info in the hallway or remind guests at check in please bring these items into their rooms, I think it would solve much of the problem. Perhaps offer to send someone to help move or remove furniture in the smaller rooms if guests cannot fit the ECV (or stroller - seems like strollers fold up or they used to when I used them).

It would be interesting to know if housekeeping is indeed asking people to leave their ECV's out in the hallway - I've had a housekeeper ask me to do that at the GF a few years ago so I know it happens.

Every time I see one in the hallway it's being charged. There's an outlet every 6 feet or so.

At Poly not too long ago we ran across several ECVs in the hallway with a rather elaborate charging setup made up of a combination of multi-strips and extension cords. The extension cords ran from inside the room out to multi-strips in the hall. We’ve seen plenty of ECVs in hallways over time, but never a setup quite like this.

We don’t use ECVs so I don’t have the benefit of knowing what it’s like to travel with one so part of me has always wanted to be respectful on the subject and mind my own business. But the other part of me can’t help but think these are personal items that should be in a room. Especially if one is going to run extension cords from inside the room! :confused3

The only problem I personally ran into was if an EVC came around a blind corner, and didn't slow down. Few times DD was almost hit in the instances and 1 time she was hit. We started walking more towards the center but that was an issue when trying to get back to the side.

We were on the 4th floor at AKL in April/May. There were 5 ECVs in the hallway at once. 2 were paralleled and the others were along the wall on our way to the lobby/club lounge. Now, we were a fair distance so we covered a lot of real estate to get to the lobby so they were not all 5 parked close together. We only saw one stroller in the hall. We were on the 5th floor on a couple of occasions and someone had spilled what looked like a whole bag of baby snacks. Not only did the person who spilled it not clean it up, but the mess sat there for TWO days. It could have been more since we did not go to the 5th floor every day.

IMO, if it is a fire safety issue with the ECVs, then there should be signs posted to NOT park them in the hallway. I do not know if the halls are wide enough for for them to be parked there and not be a fire/evacuation hazzard but if Disney has constructed the hallways to allow the ECVs to be there then no foul.

Now, as to strollers-NO put them in your room. And the trays-call room service when you are done. They will come pick them up. If YOU bring a tray from the food court then bring it back when you are done. Yes, you paid for housekeeping, but I paid for a Deluxe hotel and i do not want to see or smell your leftover food.

It would have been fun to play musical chairs with these things left in the hallway. Let that guest find their stuff.
The dark side of me loves that idea. Maybe move the strollers and unplug the ECVs and people will get the clue about leaving their belonigns in public spaces... but I doubt it.

I wonder what the fire department would have to say about this.
^^^ This. If Disney is so strict on room and restaurant occupancy how can they let this slide by? First time there is a fire and people are impeded by these there will be a lawsuit and Disney will lose.

In Disney words ...."Prohibited Activity: Obstructing sidewalks, entrances, driveways, patios, vestibules, stairways, corridors, halls or landings."
This is the proof that Disney and the Fire Department know they are supposed to be kept clear, but by not enforcing it they are opening themselves up to liability.

People need to say something while they are there.

If we see this I will mention it to the front desk. I don't mean complain in a way that gets you something free! ;)
But if enough people start to comment on this during their stay (if it's indeed out of hand), I'm sure Disney will address it.

Thank you! This has been aggravating me to no end! My mom even suggested we bring things (crepe paper) to “decorate” the ones we see in the hallways (I saw mostly ECVs, don’t know if I really saw strollers that much). But I like the musical chairs idea! Strollers it’s easy, but ECVs all have a manual lever underneath the seat which allows them to be pushed out of the way (I’ve seen CMs use it all the time at rides). I may use that in the future!

Oh, and I’m not shaming anyone who actually needs to use an ECV. Just if you are going to use one, you need to account for that in your room space needs!

It depends how much space they are taking up in the walkway. You are allowed a certain amount of inches needed to walk. So if they are not taking up that much space than they are fine.

Also you can have all the signs in the world people will not read them or read them and ignore them. Because they believe it doesn't apply to them.

Also it shouldn't matter if you stay at a deluxe or a value stollers shouldn't be left in the hallway.

P.S. I didn't give the specific diameters because it varies. In my Canada not only does it vary by Province but by city. So I didn't want to misquote information. The only reason I know this, work related issues. We had to narrow our hallways with equipment from renovations.

I think that some (perhaps even many) people using ECVs at the parks are not people who use them day to day at home. Someone who has mobility issues at home may still be able to arrange their daily walking in a way that allows them to get by without the ECV, but when faced with the enormous amount of walking WDW requires, they find they need the extra help. Which means you have ECV "newbies", so to speak, in very crowded parks and trying to navigate the slightly tighter spaces in rooms. So I can better understand people leaving ECVs in halls, than strollers. But I don't think it's a good idea for any of them to be left in the halls, regardless.

I agree about the signs, they are just to allow a staff person to say "It was posted" but it needs to be handled by the Resort security in a customer friendly way. I think they can knock on the door, leave a voice mail or a note if needed.

I deal with things like this at work too, I deal with a lot of bikes that get left all over the place, but I have to maintain a clear unencumbered exit. I know my Fire Marshall well, nice guy, but I've been taken to task by staff leaving things laying around, I know it falls on me to keep those areas clear. Disney Resort staff should know this too

The only difference between the Deluxe and Value/moderate is the last two means your leaving it outside with no sense of protection from those waking by that might spot a very nice stroller they want to add to their collection.

Amen. If you can't fit all your stuff in the room you booked, you have no business booking a standard room! Hallways are not for personal belongings. If you don't want to pay for condo or suite accomodations on property, there are plenty of large affordable options offsite!

Oh I know you can't just leave it anywhere. And there are certain places where there can't be anything at all. Had the same issues as well.

I also to your point outside or hallway people can still walk off with it. If people want something they will find a way to take it.

It's more than how many inches for someone to "walk" past the strollers, ECVs, garbage and food trays that are a concern.
What about the folks who use a wheelchair or EVC that need to pass all of this? What about a stretcher, medical equipment, and personnel during an emergency?
These devices take up more space than just the average person walking down the hallway....and need to be provided for.

That is what I am talking about. There is a certain distance that is allowed by law. That takes in account everything that you said. I used inches put you can say meters or feet. Any units of measurement. It is the same thing when they block off a sidewalk.

Yeah, I would have reported the heck out of that because it's a fire hazard to the max.
