Is anyone getting through?

Just back from the Disney Dream and see an email from our travel agent that we got booked on the Oct. 20th Egypt ABD. No early bird discount but we were just happy to get spots. Sounds like it was crazy on Tuesday!! We have never used a travel agent before so we’re super nervous about doing it this time, but being on the cruise we had no choice.

I just called yesterday and didn't wait that long. Granted it was after 10 am central time that I called. I didn't have a travel agent so I called the number that was advertised on their website. The agent that was helping me was able to get me the early bird discount for China in September. The october dates were gone for early bird. I was talking to her about other trips and I brought up Egypt, she told me she could add me on the waitlist since those were already gone. She said those sold out on Tuesday. She was talking with some colleagues about how crazy it was on Tuesday, and there was one trip that sold out in 10 minutes.

I have been kicking myself that I didn't wake up early as well. I do think it was luck of the draw. DU is ABD's biggest customer so I would think they would have a hotline if anyone did. But you make a good point. Maybe we weren't high on DU's list.

We did receive an email from Kevin at DU that they are trying everything in their power to fix the situation for DU clients. I am hoping they have some sort of pull with ABD. We'll see.

I am sorry that we didn't get you what you wanted opening day.

No agent/agency has a 'hotline' into ABD, regardless of how much they sell. If they did that would be an unfair business practice.

This release was rough - I was on the phone myself trying to secure trips and discounts for our clients. It was all hands on deck and everyone was working as hard as possible. These Egypt Adventures and discounts just went super fast and if you didn't get through right away you were shut out.

The silver lining in this is for our clients who wanted other departures other than Egypt we were able to secure Early Booking Discounts even as late as Thursday afternoon.

Thanks for the clarification. I think ABD needs to rethink their opening day process.

We are hoping for more Egypt dates to be added or movement on the waitlist.

I agree that something has to change for these releases.

I am confident that ABD will add more dates and those on the wait-lists will be able to go on an Egypt Adventure if they still want to.

A few things to keep in mind:

1. I doubt these new trips will have an Early Booking Discount
2. These new trips might be higher in price than the first round of trips. Those trips were negotiated with the vendors a long time ago. Adding new trips could mean new pricing with hotels, cruise and other locations.

I could be wrong on both accounts but you should be prepared that this may be the case.

Thank you for setting our expectations. I assume prices will go up when new trips are added as they did for Japan. The dates we can travel are limited due to my son's work schedule, so we are crossing our fingers that one of the new dates will work.

We are DVC owners as well as ABD Insiders, so we get opening day prices regardless. But if we book a new trip date does that mean we pay the opening day price for the original trips or the newly added trip price (which we will assume will open at a higher rate)?

The opening day price would be based on the new price - not the price of the previous release.

Did you book one of the new dates?

No... It was very tempting. But, we had just booked an alternate ABD instead and were excited about that. We also had some safety concerns over the weekend with the news. Tough decision. I'm sure the trips will be fabulous and we'll kick ourselves.

Got the call a few hours ago. We are on the June 9th Egypt ABD, originally waitlisted for the May 19th Adults Only. They are working down the trips in order as well as waitlists for each trip in order. We are very excited and pleased that ABD came up with a solution within a week!

We are concerned after the weekend news as well, but have full faith that ABD will pull the trips if they are deemed unsafe.

We are DVC members as well as ABD Insiders, so we were offered the original Egypt opening day price without the EBD.

This is great. So glad they honored that opening day pricing. We were so committed to December but were able to book another date on 5/14 with the EBD. Since then, I have come to really like the days we ended up booking so we are staying put.

Cannot believe there is demand for 10 more trips! That's amazing and yay ABD for the great solution to the mess of last week.

Very glad to hear ABD is giving DVC members original opening day pricing for the new, higher priced trips.

Since the other poster was offered the original pricing I'm curious now... how much more expensive were the new dates offered if I may ask..?

So I was waitlisted for Egypt even though I secured Scotland. They called me and offered a spot on Egypt. Said no because it was not opening day price and of course no EBD. Too expensive. They wanted 12K just for me. Scotland with EBD is only 7. Stupid single supplement! Will save to do Egypt in 2021/2022. With EBD and opening day pricing.
