Question - why is "ignore" unidirectional?

At times, it becomes necessary to "ignore" rude folks. I've had to do so...
But I see that "ignore" does not function bidirectionally - often resulting in further attacks, that one can just not see, unless "show ignored content" is used.

So - a suggestion? "ignore" would be far better if it operated like FaceBook "block". I don't see "ignored" content, those "ignored" don't see mine. Better for both parties.

Because you are then the one deciding what content the other person sees. I figure the administrators feel you can tailor what YOU see, but you have no right to tailor what others see.

Ignore allows you to ignore (not see) others’ posts.

If you feel you are being attacked, I recommend reporting those attacks if they violate our rules or consider whether your own posting style is pushing buttons.

I don't think it's necessary here, but this is more a question of functionality than "rights." Being able to tailor who can see content you contribute is a common function on social media sites and apps today.

I mean sure, the OP is a button-pusher, but some posters just have to reply to *everything* :ssst:

That is of course, correct. But there is a problem with "ignore"....

Once a person is ignored, no one may SEE further attacks, in violation of board rules. Hence? How may they be reported? Just askin.... :).

Unlike social media where people have their own pages to write what they want and control the posts on their walls, the DIS is a discussion forum that gives everyone the opportunity to start a thread and gives everyone the opportunity to respond to a thread. The rules are pretty simple - be courteous when you participate here, www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm. When a hot topic is posted, or posted in such a way to get a rise out of people, then human nature is to respond in kind. However, everyone also has the option to just not participate in topics or respond to posters that are upsetting.

If a person breaks one of the DIS guidelines, or if you think that the person is attacking you, then the 'Report' button at the bottom of the post should be used. The moderators and/or webmasters will look at the post, and if we agree that it breaks one of the DIS guidelines we will take action. If we don't agree with the report we will leave the post alone. We've been managing these boards for quite a while, and may have a different perspective, plus we aren't emotionally involved. If a poster cannot overlook another poster's comments, then we recommend putting that person on ignore.

This may or may not stop the other person from commenting on your posts, but, it really doesn't matter since you cannot see those posts anymore. If a topic is really upsetting and you don't want to engage with someone, and don't want that person to comment on your posts you have the option to walk away and find another topic on the same board or another board. There are plenty here on the DIS. I also recommend that you consider WebmasterKathy's comment about looking at your own posts to see why they might be eliciting the responses you object to.

I understand. Many historic BB systems do not contain the technical capability to perform bi-directional blocking. Thank you, my question has been answered.

I will be removing all "ignore" blocks, so that I may have the ability to see, and report, content contrary to board rules.
