Heading to Scotland in mid-June on ABD trip (so excited). I am struggling with what to pack given it high's are 65'ish and lows are 47'ish (and always a possibility for rain). We know to bring layers but can anyone please share their experience with dress attire for dinners? Are jeans acceptable? Also what kind of shoes did you bring given the rain?

Thank you!

It depends on where you go. Old school restaurants in Edinburg are fancy some even write on their websites you need jacket and tie for others it is ok to wear jeans.
Shoes also depend on what you do, we wear more dressy shoes in the cities and hiking boots when outdoors. The restaurants there are ok with it.
Last year it was really hot and dry while we where there. We only needed coats on the Isle of Skye

I assume you are doing the ABD. The only slightly dressy meal for that is the golf club and that's more of a slacks and button down ocassion. People wore jeans to all the other meals.

There is no hiking to speak of on this trip. I suggest a waterproof walking shoe if you have it. No need for heavy hiking boots.

We went in August and it was chilly and damp. We ended up buying wool scarves and gloves on the trip. My girls mostly wore their tall boots to walk around and got a ton of use out of their rain jackets. My husband and I mostly wore brown leather shoes.

Thank you so very helpful!

When we visited Scotland in 2002 it was extremely hot. This was late June/early July. Our hotel room was an oven. We had to borrow a fan for the room and slept with the windows and door cracked open to get a breeze.

Just wanted you to know that it can get hot there.

RAINCOAT and a sweater for sure and sneakers. I went on my own to Edinburgh and stayed at the Balmoral Hotel, I ate in their restaurant and just wore nice pants and a top. Jeans during the day .

I think that you need to pack for the spectrum for weather-wise. Hot as all get out to 40 and wet. Good luck.
