New Designated Smoking Area Question

So glad we decided against WDW for this year based on this ban. The smoking areas are much further away. USO is happy to take our money and I'm not even the smoker, but everyone who was so happy about this ban may face some seriously smokey backlash. People are just going to smoke now and CMs won't do anything about it. And good lord, the foreign guests...
I'm not a smoker either and can't stand smelling the smoke. However, I think this will just lead to people smoking wherever they want.

will just have to hope that CMs are authorized and WILL say something to a guest that is smoking inside the parks. time will tell how it plays out. we arive on May 5 so will be interesting

Per the WDW website, the MK one is, as others noted, near the second loop of bus stops, meaning most people using the buses have to go through or very close to it:

I just read on a closed group I am in that the smoking areas were quite far from the entrance. In fact, 4 different people in that group ended up renting ecv's so they could "drive" out to the smoking area! I hope that's not a sign of things to come. The space saved by banning the wagons and oversized strollers will be filled in with unnecessary ECVs! Ugh!

I read somewhere(Facebook maybe) that there is a smoking area at MK near the boat dock. It's inside security so you don't have to get re screened when you go back in.

We were at Epcot yesterday and arrived by Disney bus. Did not see the DS and we didn't smell any cigarette smoke outside the park or inside the park. YAY!!!!

o_O So everyone riding the busses will get exactly what drove Disney to move the areas out of the park. How long until they realize people paying top dollars are welcomed with the smoke of a whole park worth of smokers at the same spot. I realize Smoking is bad and even worse for no smokers, but you are already pushing those customers and pushing them right where all others can’t avoid them? at least inside the park area could be avoided or small enough to not have to linger, unlike now. I can’t imagine how bad it would be at rush hours to wait for a bus with the smoking area right by.

Who would have thought that someone that smokes would not have the willpower to walk to a smoking area? :joker:

I would expect that CMs who observe park rules being flouted and do not take any action would generally be subject to disciplinary action, and that this would include people violating the rules regarding smoking (especially due to the safety aspect, for example that a carelessly discarded cigarette butt could start a fire).

I also hope the CMs will say something. But if there is no punishment, per se, other than telling them to put the cigarette out, I don't see that it will be very effective in deterring people from lighting up wherever. And that of course, defeats the whole purpose. Would rather have smoking areas to avoid than to have folks light up wherever and hope they're done smoking by the time a CM catches them.

That's been kinda my thing on this topic. The guests who were just smoking wherever aren't going to stop, out of sheer entitlement or legit not knowing due to being from countries where smoking isn't as stigmatized. All this does is punish those of us who were already following the rules

I really wish they would have left the areas. I am a smoker, my bf is not. I found that the areas that they put them in the last time I was there (2017) were hidden enough away. But like everyone mentioned, those who did not follow the rules ruined it. I love Disney and always respected their rules. As everyone knows, smoking is bad for everyone and I have tried to quit many times. It's a very hard habit to break and those who hate smelling it, I have respect for you to keep it away and not light up where I am not supposed to but please understand that it's hard on us smokers as well (quitting & locations being moved) and for that I ask for your respect. Unfortunately, I will go where I need to to smoke and hope it isn't in your way.

We all have bad habits, some are just a bit more worse than others.
