Reservation Went Wonky

I made a reservation online two weeks ago for a 27 Oct. to 02 Nov. I went in to modify the rez later to add in 24-27 October and they charged my card an extra little bit which was fine. Today, I went in to look at Dining Plans and noticed my rez now says 24-30 October and there is no availability for the last three days of our trip. I think, when I modified the extra few days, it must have reset the end days because I know I did not and I did not see it. I also did not get an email confirmation of the change. I am reluctant to call Disney because the last time I did that, I was on hold for over two hours and it is long distance on my cell phone.

Does anyone have any brilliant ideas? I was super excited that this part was done... and now it isn't.

It sounds like when you went to modify the dates it reset your original 6 night stay (10/27 - 11/2) to a new 6 night stay (10/24 - 10/30). I think your only recourse, aside from calling, is to either try to re-modify and double check that the new dates are 10/24 - 11/2 or make a separate reservation for 10/30 - 11/2. If your current resort/room category isn't available, you may either have to consider switching or doing a split stay. If you can't do it on your own online, you will, unfortunately, have to call.

I tried to modify to include the last two nights and there is no availability. So if we have to split - will they move our bags for us or do we have to spend the day not going to a park just to move around?

Yes Disney will move your bags between resorts. Just drop off your bags at Bell Services and let them know what resort you are headed to next. The bags will arrive at your second resort after about 4-5 PM. You will have to pick them up from Bell Services on the way to your room or once you are in your room you could call Bell Services and have your bags delivered to your room (you need to be in the room to receive the bags).

As Dave mentioned, yes, WDW will move your bags for you. We've done splits where, as Dave describes, we simply give our bags to Bell Services, ask them to transfer the bags for us, go to a park and then go to our next resort when we are ready. Other than packing and unpacking, it's quite painless.

Another question - have you checked if your resort/room category is available as a separate reservation for the last two nights? If so, you can either call and ask to speak with someone in guest services to see if they can add those nights to your original stay. Or, you could book those two nights separately and then, when you check into your resort, let them know you have a continuing stay and ask if you can stay in the same room.

I've had similar problems with my split stay reservation, which was made a couple weeks ago. I had to call (actually several times) to get everything straightened out. The good news is that I was not on hold any longer than about 5 minutes for any of my calls. I would call and make sure your reservation is how you want it to be. I actually received a call from Disney this afternoon just verifying that everything with my reservation was correct due to all the problems I had in booking it. The CM told me their system had a lot of issues around the time I made my reservation and encouraged me to call if there was anything wrong. She said that is the best way to get any problems resolved.

The date range can be a tricky thing. It will reset if you change a date so in the future always double check the dates to make sure they are what you wanted. See if the room you want is available for a longer date range, if so then try calling to see if they can give you the shorter dates you need since that room is technically available. If nothing shows up the room is probably not available, so your best option is to book something else and do a split stay. I personally love split stays, you get to experience two different resorts. They will move your luggage to your new room so no need to waste a day doing this. Having it as a park day is good since the room won't be ready until the afternoon. If you go the split stay route you don't need to call, just book a second reservation online for your new stay.
