New Credit Card Authorization Holds

People aren't being double charged. They are having double amounts held in pending authorizations (one for actual charges and that same amount pending) against their available balance, which is affecting the amount they can spend.
Then that goes against all that have been, as stated they pre auth $100, if you go over then an additional $100 or the charged amount, CM stated that if one charges say $245 and one does not go over that amount then it is GTG, they will not hold you captive for $490.....

I think you're still confused on how the policy is being implemented, depending on card issuer.
The policy is implemented per Disney. How the customer’s bank holds, charges and releases is on the bank—not Disney. Please read multi post from @AngiTN above. She did a fantastic job explaining the process in detail. A lot of people could benefit from her summary as opposed to reading a couple posts of misinformation in isolation.

I have personal experience with the policy, but thanks anyway.

great, so were you held the double amount, so much speculations and assumptions going on here and even with Disney's own CM's......I am not sure what to expect..........

Right there says it all, where some come up with the idea of it is odd, I have never heard of that, pre auth, yes, I am almost sure that every hotel does at some point pre auth a stay before one arrives, if anything to see if the card is legit........thanks for your reply....
Right, every hotel does it. It's the amount that varies.
Some run $1, so you'd never even notice. And since you'd likely not have issues with $1 held in limbo or check often you'd probably never notice.
It's the frequency that it's happening at Disney that makes it an issue. And the amounts overlapping.
$100 is hit by most everyone every day, so it's causing repeated holds, which is causing the issues with available credit.
But again, realize holds are never anything more than a virtual charge. Deducted from your credit limit but not your balance owed. Does that help?

Well, did they in your case pre auth you a double amount, or $100 for each day you stayed?

Neither. It's not that cut and dry.
They do a preauthorization in a more irregular manner, not daily or double.
The preauth are run based on anything that exceeds $100 but the charge isn't ran till check out or after 5 days, whichever comes first.

This is my understanding from reading everything. Initial preauthorization of $100 at checkin day. This may or may not go against available funds depending on bank policy.
IF $100 is exceeded say $118, you now have an additional $118 hold for a total of $218 in holds.
  • Either Checkout or 5th day rolls around the $118 will but then charged to the bank, and the bank will handle the previous holds as written in their policy whether it be immediate or not falls to the bank.
  • OR if you pay the balance before checkout/5th day the $118 will clear to $0 room balance, a charge will not push through your bank and a NEW hold for subsequent room charges would not be placed unless you exceed the now $218 Disney has preauthorization for.
For myself Discover will count the hold against available credit but take up to 5 days to become available again. Debit will again count against funds but take up to 30 DAYS to become available big difference.
Everyone literally needs to check with their card issuers to find out hold the holds will be handled.

The second bullet point DID NOT happen like that to me. I had a zero balance on day 5, so the initial $312.69 hold was credited back. Then a new $100 hold was tried but Discover flagged it as fraud since Disney had just released a hold. I had to authorize the hold. Took time out of my day and meanwhile, I couldn’t charge to the magic band. Concierge says this is happening to most people on the 5th day when Disney charges or credits.(Banks are seeing multiple charges and credits on the same day.) She urged me to complete the survey that will be sent at the end of my stay this week. Additionally, even once it was fixed, my magic band lost charging privileges and had to be reprogrammed.

Good to know since I had planned on using my Discover.

IMO, all this talk about Holds versus authorizations I find to be a non issue -:goodvibes

Yes, I will be using a Disney Chase "Dream dollar" credit card for payment.....
Plan on even pre-paying approx $250 off of the card for my 4 night stay at POP, then do the same for DCL.......

Do plan on putting a Chase Visa CC on file for cc charging......
even will tell the CM at check in to also place a $200 authorization on the CC..... I will do this at POP as well as DCL-

I will also tell the CM that I will be using the Dream CC until all monies are used... so please use this CC in window one and then the Chase Visa CC in window two -

NOT A BIG DEAL FOLKS::yes::...... calm down - breathe - its only an authorization...... if CMs are "mad" because the Brass is making them run the Credit limit report, IMO TOUGH COOKIES -

thats called doing your job as it cuts down on Loss Prevention & in some cases - out and out right fraud.

*** ALSO, WHEN I CHECK OUT AND MY BALANCE IS AT ZERO, I ALSO WILL BE TELLING THE CM'S TO PLEASE CHANGE THE METHOD OF PAYMENT FROM MY CC TO CASH......

Some may give me a weird look while others will understand why I am making this request; FYI......:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

But thank you all for all of your opinions popcorn::

They won't do it. So you better have a Plan B.

The “Dream dollar CC” — do you mean the Rewards Redemption Card from your Disney Visa rewards? I don’t believe you can set that as backing to a WDW resort account. It processes like a gift card, so you will need to go to the desk to pay down the balance before they charge to the CC.

And DCL is different. DCL doesn’t pre-authorize a hold at all and you can apply the Rewards card in advance on DCL.

Enjoy your vacation!

So I’m sure this has already been asked. So If I don’t charge anything there will be $100 hold on my card and then it will be released assuming I’m staying less than 5 days?

Yes. If you do online check in, your card will be charged an initial $100 hold. If there are no charges on the magic band, the hold will be released upon check out. Or, if you'd rather, you can go to the front desk and tell them you don't want room charging privileges on the bands. OR, don't do online check in and do regular check in at the desk and decline to have charging privileges put on the bands. :)
