Applying Friends & Family Discount to Existing Reservation

A family member has generously offered to give us their Friends & Family discount for our trip the last week of October.

I booked the rooms for our trip several months ago.

The family member says that they can get a "discount code" 60 days before the stay and that we will need to cancel and then rebook our same rooms to take advantage of the discount.

Does this sound right?

If we cancel the room and then rebook, will we lose our ADR's and fast passes?

Thanks for any information!

Yes that is how it works and both the cancellation and new booking can be handled on the same call.

Some additional details:

Your ADRs are not connected to the your package or room only reservation but connected to you and your credit card that you used to make each ADR. You can make your ADRs up to 180 days regardless if you have a package or room reservation.

You can't make any FP+ before 60 days in general (there is a special case for the CL Pilot program). Your FP+ reservations will also be kept if you complete you new booking within the new window. Disney has been working to fix an issue where some guests would make a reservation to allow them to make FP+ at 60 days and then cancel the reservation. The system would keep the FP+. The system has been changed to remove any FP+ reservations if you cancel a reservation and don't make another reservation. The default appears to be 2-3 days but as I stated above you can and should cancel and book using the FF discount on the same call.
