Magicband - linked or free?

Hi,

I'm not traveling to WDW until next year but I'll be travelling from the UK.

As magicbands aren't shipped internationally, I'd need to collect at the front desk upon check in.

I have a magicband that I bought last time I visited and haven't used/linked yet but if I do, will I still be able to collect a magic band upon check-in or will they be able to see that I already have one linked (I'll do this before arriving) so won't have one for me?

Thanks in advance

You'll still get the free one. (Every person booked onsite gets one free - no matter how many s/he already has linked.) My family of 4 has over 100 I bet - we go 2 or 3x a year (and sometimes do 2 or 3 way split stays). You can choose to decline if you have too many (but my son loves decorating his room with them, so we don't decline).

Thank you, that sounds like a great idea x

If your band is more than two years old, the battery may not be good. The band will still work for anywhere you touch it to things (park admission, fastpass line admission, resort room door). However, it may not work for identifying you in on-ride photos.,
Oh no, I didn't know that. I was bought it in December 2018 and then I'm hoping to use it in October 2020 so hope it lasts until then. It's still in the packaging as it hasn't been opened so really hoping it will work

Again as indicated above even if the battery is dead, your older MB will work at all Touch Points. The battery is only needed for select attractions that have personalized messages and ride photos selection by default.

You can still use a Touch Point to select your ride photos so the only real limitation when using an older MB with a dead battery is you might not see your name "appear" within select attractions.

Some of the newest rides don't have touch points to select your ride photos.

From disneyworld.com:
"If you don’t have a MagicBand, some attractions have a photo preview wall where you can link photos manually. Visit the photo preview wall immediately after experiencing the attraction and touch your park ticket, Memory Maker card or annual pass to the touch point next to the preview screen that displays your photo. If an attraction does not have a photo preview wall, MagicBands are required to link attraction photos and videos to your Disney account."
