and book when they come out? I've always waited for the discount to come out in the past.

My trip would not be til March 2020, but I imagine booking at full rate is an option when the 2020 prices come out. While not tied to one resort in particular, one of my party has some pretty nasty motion sickness and arrives at the park sick after the bus ride, and so we're looking at monorail line resorts or boardwalk. Even with the gondolas, I don't think CBR will be an option because with parks still requiring a bus, the loop around the resort before getting on/off bus will do her in.
 
This topic is frequently discussed. If you are going to travel on specific dates, you are better off having a reservation, even if at full price, rather then waiting and 'hoping' for a discount and find the rooms are all sold out. If a lower price becomes available, you can take advantage of that. Even when disney offers discounts, it may not be on every room category. If you are flying, then waiting too long to book airlines will likely result in a higher price, typically around peak travel times.

Not sure what the secret is to getting codes. I log into our account at Disney web site at least once every couple weeks. Make plans. Price tickets. Etc. whatever make the codes come in the mail though. I’ll take it. Lol
 
We go twice a year & also sadly don’t get pin codes. We always booked whatever dates we want & wait until a discount comes out & then apply it.
 
I wait until the discounts come out before booking. First, I am fairly flexible as far as when I go and where I stay, so if my preferred dates and/or resort aren’t available with the discount I will choose a different resort or date. I know that a lot of people don’t have this flexibility, though, so it might make sense for them to book before the discounts are announced. Second, I just don’t want to deal with the hassle of changing things once I have booked.

BTW, I don’t get PINs either!
 


Five trips and I have never seen a pin. Now the non paying members of my daughters family have been offered them for years (found out they just throw them away). I just book and wait. Last trip while making last payment the nice CM said You forgot to ask about codes and I got a nice discount.
 
I wait and then book when the discount comes out. I prefer not to take the chance that they won’t offer a discount where I have booked because the occupancy is too high. Once I have my mind set at a particular resort, I don’t like to change. Sometimes I can book way ahead using a bounce back, and sometimes it’s just a couple months or so. It all depends on when the discount drops.
 
Book at rack rate since we plan for June vacations, then if a discount comes out we either apply it to the current room or if we could get an upgrade for the same price we might go that route.
 
We always book as soon as we can. If a discount comes out, fine; if not at least we still have a room.

Assumes the lower price is available at your resort on your room type on your dates.

Discounts are otfered to fill rooms. If there are enough bookings, hotelier has no reasom to offer a discount.
 
Depends--usually I want to go at least once a year and i would decide up to a year in advance when i feel would be the best time and what resort i really would like to stay at. For this, yes, I would make a reservation as soon as possible and wait for the discounts. And, once I've made up my mind on dates, I'm pretty inflexible with changes. However I can be pretty flex with resort when the discounts eventually do come out--then I really look for what I view as the best deal in either dlx or mod categories.

Now, if throughout the year I see a discount that is a really good deal at some other time from my original plan, then I will probably book an additional week or more if Disney keeps the deals coming. With the whole Star Wars thing happening, I fear that I will only be going once a year for the next few years until things settle down. Can't really complain since I went twice last year and will be there 3 times this year.
 
We usually book then adjust. Which must drive our TA crazy since I've been known to change resorts and room types to get what we want. I've gone from a mod to a deluxe to DVC all within about a week once discounts come out, sometimes even changing room types to get what we want.
 
We usually only book a room when we can get a discount. We either wait for a Disney discount or use a travel agent who can give us a discount. We also take advantage of the bounce back offers.
 
I only book at the rate I'm willing to pay.
Outside of NYE I don't book rack rate because I won't be staying there at rack rate. I only book it during NYE because I know there will not be any discounts anyway.
 
It depends. If I’m locked into certain dates and plan to go regardless of discounts, I go ahead and book so I have something reserved at a price I’m willing to pay. Then if a discount comes out that works for me, great. But if I wasn’t planning to go without the discount then I would just wait since there’s no reason to hold a reservation I don’t intend to keep.

There are discounts over NYE through some TA’s, just not through Disney.
