Let’s play what’s wrong with me..physically- small update, pg.3

Ok. This is going to sound weird, but it might just be your colon. Are you by chance struggling with constipation or do you have IBS or any intestinal disorder that causes inflammation? I have IBS-C and can often feel a similar lump on my left side, just in front of my hip bone and in towards my belly button about an inch. It's my colon. It gets like that when I'm backed up or after an IBS attack (it hardens due to either being "full" or from inflammation and can be easily felt). When I am particularly backed up, I can feel it when I take a deep breath. It feels like it catches under my rib. It's very uncomfortable. The descending colon is quite long and feels exactly as you described (like a full burrito that is vertical).

No, I don’t have any issues like that. Everything is as it’s been up til now.

This is why I don't think it's a lipoma. They are very common; my DH had one on his neck so large it increased his shirt size. They are almost always topical though. If you have ever seen Dr. Pimple Popper on TLC, practically everything she treats is a lipoma and can be removed relatively simply with an in-office procedure.

:scratchin If your's is actually inside you, well, my guess would something else.

OMG that show has to be the most disgusting thing on tv. I can’t even stomach the commercials.

I know we can’t 100% trust the internet but Wiki said that they can be deeper. Rare, but possible. I made the mistake of looking at pictures on that site too :crazy2:

Is it mobile? Can you move or wiggle it?

I can’t push on it and move it at all. It definitely stays where it is.

Yes, apparently. But after reading @DLgal 's description of the descending colon, if I was a betting woman I'd put money on that.

And I do agree the Dr. PP show is gross but I also find it oddly compelling. It's really heart-wrenching to see how deeply affected the patients are by their deformities and how tenderly she cares for them. Treatment is truly life-altering for most of them. I actually started watching it when DH's lipoma was diagnosed and he got on the wait-list for surgery. I learned a lot by watching but his case was quite different. Because the growth was into his spine his surgery was in the hospital under general anesthetic and done by both a plastics surgeon and a neurosurgeon.

Oh, I definitely agree that she does good in the world by bringing up peoples self confidence. I just have a way weaker stomach than I used to have. Back when TLC focused on the L, they had a show called operation where you’d just watch surgeries. I use to eat while watching that show. Now, even looking at an X-ray of a broken bone is enough to get the room spinning.

I really, really, REALLY, hope that whatever it is doesn’t require surgery. I feel like I used all my luck last time and don’t want to chance it again. I do not react well to anesthesia.

I just read up on distended colon and I definitely don’t think that’s what it is. For that, it seems like the symptoms are cramping (no), swelling (possible), constipation (no), diarrhea (no), nausea (no), and fever (no). I get not having one of those things but none of them are accurate.

Oddly enough everyone in my little family (including the dog) has at least one lipoma (the dog has lots and they keep popping up on him) only one, one of my husband's, is directly below the skin. Mine, I actually thought was a breast tumor and had to have multiple tests, including a mammogram followed by an ultrasound, for them to be certain it was a lipoma. I am not saying it is a lipoma, but they certainly don't have to be just under the surface, or my family is just really odd.

Distended colon is not what I am talking about. I have never had that condition. I first felt this lump around age 15 and am now 40 and it comes and goes. My gastroenterologist confirmed I am just feeling my colon.

You can try an easy experiment. Take a laxative. Then, when you are fairly certain you are emptied out, see if the lump is still there. You can "go" every day and still be constipated.

My husband has a few small lipomas on his lower back, but under the muscle. They aren't visible but you can feel them when you massage his back. The doctors have said leave them alone unless they grow (they haven't in years) or start causing pain (so far not an issue). His dad had them as well.

You know what? I just read up on this and it fits 100%. The only thing I don’t know about is family history, but I don’t think there is.

It’s easy to self diagnose, and I’m careful not to, but this checks a lot of boxes. I’ll definitely ask my dr his thoughts on it. Thank you.

As far as I know, nobody in my family has had any until I got mine.

My first thought was could OP have a bit of a bowel obstruction?

My thoughts exactly. Post-hyster (about 8-10 weeks) over 20 years ago, I had a bowel obstruction caused by endometrial tissue left on the bowel which grew because (way back then), I was given HRT. Fast forward another six months from the original bowel obstruction, I had another. While the OP may not be fully obstructed, the description is the same as I felt with both obstructions.

I also suffer from ulcerative colitis and after I eat, my left side will get that same engorgement, but once the digestion process moves along--it goes away. Hence the reason for both quotes.

Good luck and let us know if anyone guesses the correct diagnosis. :flower3:

I definitely will keep this one updated.

Mine wasn't. It was deep and un-encapsulated. I had to have surgery for it. I'm also in a Lipoma group and many of us have had "internal" lipomas.

Not going to diagnose so I will say my experience. With me, it's endometriosis, ovary cysts, scar adhesions, and a slight hernia. If you have a copy of your surgery report and/or pathology report it will be noted if Endometriosis was indeed found. My burrito was created with pregnancy, then became more out there after the hyster, and lucky me still have to deal with Endometriosis because it's stage 4 and was impossible to get it all. Had two 30+ years doctors on my case. I was their worst case. Only have 2 ovaries and 1 tube. Hope you feel better soon.

I don’t have copies of anything. It didn’t occur to me to ask for them. I don’t think that’s a regular thing here, I don’t know.

I should book a follow up appt with my gyn anyway, she’ll have a report I can ask about. Not sure if my gp would have that info?

I would and get a copy of the pathology report too. You're allowed to have copies. I asked for mine.

Just curious, Kim, on when is your doctor's appointment? I just don't want you getting too worried over medical suggestions from this thread or the internet. At my age I just close my eyes so to speak until I get results from the doc and then I either breathe easier or come to you guys for sympathy/support.

And.........after my awful lung diagnosis the breathing easier is becoming a little bit more difficult. ;)

In my OP I said I have an appointment already set up. I’m just looking for educated guesses and so far, I’ve had a few.
Yes, I saw that. Because there are so many “ guesses” posted on a message board you may have preconceived ideas and may express them to your Doc. IMHO...get all your records, write down all your symptoms and turn them over to your Doc. I hope you feel better.

I can’t push on it and move it at all. It definitely stays where it is.

That would concern me the most. It is most likely to be nothing of consequence if it is soft and mobile. Hard and not moveable is more likely to be something nefarious.
