Mardi Gras Dessert Party. Worth doing?

I haven't been to US for a while and plan on doing it on this trip. Has anyone done the Mardi Gras Dessert Party and what did you think of it?

Never heard of it, didn't know it existed! I have never done any Disney dessert parties either, mostly because I'm cheap. Would you do it for the desserts or is there some special access? I have not found finding parade viewing a difficult thing, but I don't go during the busiest times.

Special parade and Cinematic Spectacular viewing (plus desserts, sodas, prosecco)

I am wanting to find someone who did it for a review, but haven't seen one yet.

TheTimTracker has a YouTube vlog about the Christmas one. I am guessing this would be similar. The takeaway that it is not really quite worth it. However, my family would be doing it the last day of the parade, so I'm wondering if that would make it worth it.

We did the Christmas dessert party and we did feel it was worth it-crowds were nuts so was so nice to have dedicated viewing areas. Plus the snacks and beverages during parade, then desserts for Cinematic Spectacular were good. Our experience at the Christmas one was it was NOT oversold so we had plenty of room too. If crowds are nuts at Mardi Gras it may worth it. depends on what your tolerance/budget is.

Still thinking about it. I wish Universal would include some savory items...and a discount for pass holders would be nice. I think the dessert party does not start until March 13.

Yeah, too bad there isn't a Universal version of the Disney Dining Blog, I thought I would google out of curiosity and there really isn't anything online from what I see of a review.

I think we would do it if there were savoury items too......but not really dessert fans, so doubt we’ll do this.......but I think it’ll be a good addition for those that do enjoy desserts.......

I enjoy the desserts, that's my problem! I have been doing well with nutrition and fitness for a couple of months now. I know vacation will be a splurge, but I'm worried I will try to get $50 worth of desserts and sparking wine if I pay for it :scared:

I did just yesterday save over $200 on our room, that would a little more than cover the dessert party for 5 of us without cutting back anywhere else. Plus I found out the gym is complimentary, so maybe I can do an extra workout for the desserts!:jester:

Looks like there is a 20% AP discount for the Boil and the Dessert Party, but our passes won't be activated until we arrive, which is only a few days before we would want to go to the party. I wonder if it will sell out?

I doubt it will sell out.

With 20% off, you have me reconsidering. We will probably wait to see what the crowds look like for parade viewing. Might be worth it not to have to save a spot.

The night that works best with our plans is the last night of the parade, so I am worried about a sell out at least before we get there and can get the discount (March 31st for an April 4th dessert party). (I called and you have to buy the AP discount tickets in person) Not sure I want to spend the extra $40 to have it reserved now, though. I guess if we can't get tickets later, maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Watching the TimTracker vlog for the Boil made me worry that people do stake out spots a good deal ahead of time. My family won't be up for that. Knowing my DH, he would just skip the parade if he got crowded.

TimTracker did a video of this from Saturday night (3/9) and it was pretty empty IMO - This was part of the crawfish boil - I assume the dessert party is the same area

the spot was by the old monster makeup show - just next to where the parade starts and stops - so you can see it twice

We did the Mardi Gras Parade, Desserts, and Cinematic Viewing Experience last night. We bought our tickets on the day of and there is a discount for passholders, about $10 off (unfortunately, there are no team member discounts, in case this applies to anyone reading this).

You can check in at the Pantages Theater (where the Horror Make-Up Show is) one hour before the parade. Last night the parade was at 7:30. They brought out Scooby-Doo for one set and then Homer and Bart for another set to meet and hang out with guests in an exclusive viewing area for the MG parade. Most of the time they were free roaming, and it was quite entertaining to watch them. Non-alcoholic drinks were available for the MG parade experience.

The viewing area for the parade was great! We weren't really really trying to get beads, but when the guests on the floats throw them towards you, your natural instinct is to catch them. :) It was a lot of fun! Even after the parade passes by you the first time, make sure you stick around because the parade entrance and exit is through the same gate (most of the guests left this area). We were very satisfied with how much room we had in this private viewing area. The team members do not even break down the barriers in this viewing area until the parade has completely exited the parade route.

By the time the parade ended, we had less than ten minutes until we were able to check in for the second portion of the night. The check in for the Cinematic Celebration dessert experience is also one hour prior to the show. So in this case, we could check in at 8:15. We checked in and got our food. The break down of sweet to savory items was 80/20, I would say (I know some of the above posters were curious about if there were any savory items).

(Not shown, but they also provided the same non-alcoholic drinks that they offered at the parade experience earlier).

There was a server that went around and checked if you needed anything and was clearing tables all night. The team members also provide blankets for you to sit on, on the grass, but I think for last night, they ran out or could not find anymore (ooops). One of the bartenders actually was grabbing tablecloths for the guests to sit on, as it got closer to show time (kudos to him!). We ended up standing, and it was a very nice view.

Overall, I would recommend this experience. The team members were very nice and attentive, and we loved the exclusivity of it.

Please let me know if you guys have any questions. :) I know the lighting is not the best in some of these photos, but I would be happy to explain the desserts as best as I can. Hope this was helpful to anyone considering it.

We did the Mardi Gras Parade, Desserts, and Cinematic Viewing Experience last night.

Great review and great pictures! I was too lazy to take any when we went. Was fun to sort of re-live the experience looking at your photos.

About how many other guests were there with you that night? Looks like a heftier crowd than we had, although it doesn't look like that many.

Thanks for the review and pics. I sent this to the missus to get her thoughts. With the APH discount, we're considering it. We will be riding a float one night during the trip. Trying to decide if it's worth the money to do this on a different night.

Thank you!

We think it was probably less than 30 guests?

Does anyone know if there is still a dessert party/special viewing for Cinematic Spactacular, or was this only during Mardi Gras?

I am not able to find a dessert party during non-event nights - I believe the dessert party for Cinematic Celebration only happens during Mardi Gras (and possibly during Christmas time?).
